VIETNAM S OVERALL EDUCATION SYSTEM
ASSOCIATE DEGREE (JUNIOR / VOCATIONAL COLLEGE) Objectives /Learning outcomes Students can perform jobs of intermediate level, solve job-related problems, apply creatively techniques and technology in work, guide and monitor others in teamwork Credits /Duration 2 3 years depending on the industry for secondary school graduates 1 2 years depending on the industry for those having vocational certificate in the same industry Curriculum Focusing more on practical work
BACHELOR S DEGREE Objectives / Learning outcomes On completion of the program, students should have: - comprehensive professional knowledge to master natural and social laws and principles; - basic practical skills; - abilities to work independently, creatively and solve problems related to the specialised training discipline. Credits /Duration - 120 credits for 4-year programs (1 credit = 15 credit hours (50 minutes) of in-class teaching + 30 hours of guided self-study or 30hours of lab/practical work + 15 hours of guided selfstudy or 45 practicum hours / thesis / dissertation) - 150 180 credits for 5 6 year programs Curriculum The curriculum is structured in two bodies of knowledge: - General education - Specialised education
MASTER S DEGREE Objectives / Learning outcomes On completion of the program, students should have: - fundamental scientific knowledge; - specialised skills for conducting a research area or doing a profession effectively; - abilities to work independently and creatively, - the competence to identify and solve problems related to the specialised discipline. Credits / Duration - Full-time - 60 credits (2 years) - 30 credits (1 year) for programs whose corresponding undergraduate programs have 150 credits or more Curriculum - Research-oriented programs focusing on specialised knowledge & research skills - Application-oriented programs focusing on professional knowledge and practical skills. Curriculum structure: - General knowledge: Philosophy and foreign languages - Generic and discipline specialised knowledge: compulsory; selective courses (30% of curriculum contents) - Thesis: at least 7 credits
DOCTORAL DEGREE Objectives / Learning outcomes On completion of the program, students should have: - advanced level of theoretical knowledge and application skills; - abilities to conduct independent research; develop new knowledge; discover natural / social laws & principles; - abilities to solve new problems in science and technology, supervise research & professional activities. Credits / Duration - 90 credits for Master s degree holders - 120 credits for Bachelor s degree holders Curriculum Curriculum structure: Module 1: Supplementary courses Module 2: - Doctoral courses (8 12 credits) - Doctoral specialised research papers ( 4-6 credits) - Theoretical overview minor thesis (2 credits) Module 3: Research and doctoral dissertation: Dissertation should be original and creative work in the research field, contributing to theory, containing new knowledge or solutions
