BULLETIN Nº 1 April 2005 The ninth International Conference on Topics in Astroparticle and Underground Physics, TAUP 2005, is jointly organized by the Gran Sasso National Laboratories (LNGS, Italy) and the University of Zaragoza and it will be held at the Paraninfo building of the University of Zaragoza in the city of Zaragoza (Spain) in September 10-14, 2005. As customary in the series, TAUP 2005 will consist of invited review talks, workshop sessions devoted to specific subjects and poster sessions. In this edition, TAUP will be dedicated to the memory of Prof. Angel Morales, co-founder and determined promoter of this Conference. SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM The purpose of TAUP is to bring together theorists and experimentalists working in Astroparticle Physics, to review and discuss the status and prospects of the field. The Conference will consist of invited review talks, workshop sessions devoted to specific subjects and poster sessions. Major topics: Cosmology and Particle Physics Dark Matter and Dark Energy Gravitational Waves Neutrino Physics & Astrophysics High Energy Astrophysics and Cosmic Rays The following Workshop/Discussion Sessions have been scheduled: Cosmological Issues (early universe, CMB, high-redshift SN, simulations) Gravitational waves Dark matter and dark energy Solar, reactor and other low-energy neutrino physics HE astrophysics Atmospheric neutrinos and high-energy neutrino beams Double beta decay Some of them will be held in parallel. The afternoon Workshop Sessions will deal with the main subjects reviewed in the morning. They will consist of short invited talks and brief presentations of contributed papers. A very brief introduction about the subject to be discussed in each Workshop Session may be delivered by the Conveners/Discussion Leaders, should they consider it appropriate for the discussions to follow. Contributions on the subjects covered by the Workshop Sessions will be welcome. Participants wishing to present their paper and/or poster in one of these afternoon sessions are required to send a short abstract and/or description of their contribution ti the TAUP 2005 Secretariat by June 15, by

using the online form (see Contributions/Posters). The Conveners/Discussion Leaders of the Workshop Sessions will select the contributions to be orally presented and will allocate the time to each contribution. The contributors to the Workshop Sessions will be contacted by the Conveners/Discussion Leaders in due time, either directly or through the Conference Secretariat. An abridged version (free format) of the paper should also be submitted together with the Contributed Paper/Poster form. PROCEEDINGS OF THE CONFERENCE The Proceedings of TAUP 2005 will include the invited lectures and the orally presented contributions. The number of allocated pages for each contribution and instructions for the camera-ready manuscripts will be supplied during the Conference. Due to the limited participation quota of this Conference, all the scientists invited are kindly requested to return the Registration Form with either a positive or a negative answer to allow the Chairman of the Organizing Committee to take extra requests into consideration, according to the number of invitations accepted. Acknowledgement of receipt of the Registration Forms received by the automatic system will be made periodically. Viajes Marsans will contact each participant in order to confirm the hotel requested or to inform about the allocation of a different one (of similar category to the participant s choice), should the original choice be fully booked up. September is a high touristic and exhibitions season in Zaragoza and therefore we strongly advice participants to make their reservations as soon as possible (in any case, no later than August 15, 2005). Please, take note that the rooms will be assigned on a first come first served basis. We must inform participants that the official Agency Viajes Marsans requires advanced full payment of the whole stay at the hotel. For that purpose a credit card number is requested in the hotel form. However, the actual charge will not be made effective until the month of September 2005 (i.e. two or three days before the Conference starts), which will provide flexibility for possible lastminute changes in the reservations. In any case, any cancellation or change of dates carried out once the payment has been actually settled, will be duly managed and, if that were the case, refunded accordingly. If cancellation occurs up to 24 hours before the date of arrival at the hotel, the whole amount will be refunded. Any cancellation made the day before or on the day of arrival will be charged with the cost of one night. All inquiries regarding accommodation and/or your hotel reservation can be addressed directly to the travel agency at the following address: d475@marsans.es, stating TAUP 2005 Conference on the subject line.

Should you prefer to make your own reservations, there is a wide choice of hotels in Zaragoza, apart from the ones offered by the travel agency.
