OSIRIS: Publicly listed companies worldwide OSIRIS is a comprehensive database of listed companies, banks and insurance companies around the world. In addition to the income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement and ratios it contains a wide range of complementary information such as news, ownership, subsidiaries, M&A activity and ratings. Bureau van Dijk Electronic Publishing (BvDEP) aims to include all publicly listed companies worldwide on OSIRIS. Major unlisted companies are also covered if they are significant within their sector, or by special request. OSIRIS contains information on over 45,000 companies from over 140 countries including 34,000 listed companies and 11,000 unlisted or de-listed companies. The following features combine to make OSIRIS the definitive information solution for listed company information: Range of report formats - as reported and harmonised data Companies reports are presented in as reported and harmonised data formats in a variety of templates to maximise accuracy for both cross-border searching and in-depth analysis of individual companies. Specific templates are provided for banks, insurance companies and industrial companies to reflect the different configurations of their accounts. Similarly, different formats are provided for various accounting presentations around the world. In the reports, financial items can be drilled into to reveal their more detailed components, until ultimately, the raw data is uncovered. Alternatively, users can go directly to the report that contains their required level of detail. Key financials can be used for global searching, across OSIRIS. These can also be used in the analysis functions as well as the more detailed financials. Range of expert information providers for financials and complementary information A number of different information providers (IPs) supply companies financials, including a specialist supplier for banks and insurance companies, to offer optimum, accurate coverage. Complementary information, such as ratings, M&A activity, ownership, news plus how predictable the company s performance has been in terms of recommendations and EPS forecasts comes from a further 15 reputable companies to give a broader perspective for in-depth corporate research. Flexibility OSIRIS is easy and flexible to use for both expert and novice users. Advanced options include full Boolean logic, peer and statistical analyses and time series searching. Access can either be by annual subscription or a pay-per-view BvDEP credit account.
OSIRIS Publicly listed companies worldwide The reports and the information they contain To give an accurate presentation of individual company accounts, whilst providing a tool for cross-border searching, comparison and analysis, the accounts on OSIRIS are presented in seven templates in three main categories: industrial, banking and insurance. The different reports have multiple levels of detail and standardisation, including raw data. Consolidated and unconsolidated accounts are provided where possible. A default peer report instantly compares the company to its default peer group. An OSIRIS data guide describes the content and methodology in detail. Six different companies provide the financial information on OSIRIS. Fitch Ratings Huaxia Korea Information Service Reuters Teikoku World Vest Base Bank and insurance company financials worldwide Industrial financials China Industrial financials Korea Industrial accounts US plus additional accounts for non-us companies and financial institutions Industrial financials Japan Industrial financials worldwide Complementary information Complementary information is provided as follows: 2 Stock Data, collected by Fininfo, comprises security and price information, current and annual stock data, current and annual stock valuation and monthly, weekly and daily pricing series. The evolution of indices is included for comparison purposes. Companies can be identified by their inclusion on major stock exchange indices such as the FTSE 100 or CAC 40. National, regional and sector indices are provided by MSCI Barra covering developed and emerging markets for comparative analyses. Earnings estimates, provided by Factset/JCF, include number of estimates, estimates on earnings per share, P/E ratio estimates. Additional estimates include recommendations and forecasts on other variables and a synthesis of the brokers recommendations and evolution. The recommendations indicate Factset/JCF's presentation of the average of all the scores given by analysts. Edgar Online provides filings from the US SEC going back as far as 1999. New filings are added weekly. Ownership - BvDEP s internal research department compiles ownership information. This unique data can be searched by: ownership status, shareholders, subsidiaries and affiliates of selected companies. Ratings - OSIRIS provides ratings collected from the three leading rating agencies - Fitch Ratings, Moody s and Standard & Poor s. BvDEP news - This module contains information from a combination of leading news providers: The Financial Times newspapers and newswires, Dow Jones, Reuters as well as news and rumours of M&A activity from BvDEP's ZEPHYR database. Alerts can be set up to keep users informed of articles concerning companies or topics that are of interest. Broker performance - The retrospective analysis of brokers EPS forecasts and recommendations plus current predictions are provided by AQ Research. Industry research from Datamonitor, plus company profiles and SWOT analyses. Economic background information is provided by the links to the Economist Intelligence Unit's Country Profiles and Country Outlooks. Corporate actions, such as a company meeting, dividends or a change in listing status, are provided by Exchange Data International (EDI). Full colour scanned annual and interim reports are provided by Global Reports. User-defined variables Users can create their own variables in addition to those supplied. These can be displayed in the company reports and can also be used for searching. Peer groups Companies can be compared against their peers using either the standard peer groups, or by using the search criteria to identify customised groups of companies. Integrated analysis options allow the creation of graphs and tables to analyse companies relative performances. Analysis matrix The segmentation function provides options for the creation of a matrix that displays a group of companies defined by two variables that can be specified. For example, the 100 fastest growing companies by profit can be displayed with turnover in rows and industry in columns. This can also be viewed graphically. Exporting Search results can easily be downloaded 4 to all popular formats - graphs can be saved for use in reports and presentations. Dynamic links All subsidiary and holding company reports are dynamically linked for fast access. The structure of an organisation can be illustrated in a tree diagram which can be navigated to access further structures. Users can access reports for companies that are too small for inclusion in OSIRIS via a BvDEP subscription or credit account. Alert service An alert service notifies users of changes to companies they have chosen to monitor. The alert system can also watch saved searches and indicate changes to the range of companies that comply with inclusion criteria. News and M&A activity can also be monitored. Add-in The Add-in function allows access to OSIRIS from within an Excel spreadsheet. Templates can be created that include figures from OSIRIS, incorporated with graphs and equations that have been created in Excel - allowing a customised, instant analysis of any company in OSIRIS.
