8 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 4 The DHD Operation Server (DHDOS) The DHD Operation Server (DHDOS) is a file based database software. It runs on a server PC and is the interconnection between DHD devices and DHD Operation Manager entities. It is necessary to run the DHDOS software for the use of the following DHDOM licenses: 4.1 52-8550 52-8551 52-8552 52-8562 52-8563 52-8565 Routing/Scheduling Software Routing Software Routing Software, single matrix Snapshot Manager Software Remote Control Software DSP Control Software Installation and Setup The software runs on every standard PC with Windows XP. The temporary data rate can be very enormous dependent on the simultaneous executed commands. Because of this you should use a PC equipped with up-to-date hardware. The PC should have at least a 2 GHz CPU and 512 MB RAM. It is not needed to install the DHD Operation Server (DHDOS). Before starting the first time you only have to copy the software from the shipped CD to your PC. You can copy the software (DHDOS.exe) manually from the CD onto the PC or you just follow the automatically started installation process, after inserting the CD. Additionally the file OSDataImport.dll is needed. Important You are able to administrate several devices with the same Project ID with one DHDOS entity. It is not possible to administrate more devices with different Project IDs with the same DHDOS entity. It is possible to control devices of different projects (with different Project IDs) by several DHDOS entities on the same PC. Therefore, these other entities of the DHDOS and their Files folders need to be stored in other directories. If you want to open several entities of the DHDOS on the same PC, you need to activate the function Allow several servers on this computer. Choose a directory on your local hard disk (e.g., C:\dhdos) for the files DHDOS.exe and OSDataImport.dll. Take care that only authorised users have access to this directory. Make sure that there is enough free space on the hard disk. The actual required space on the volume depends on the number of events and the chosen logging options.the required space can exceed 100 MB after a while. A subfolder named Files is created in the path where the server is located, when you start the DHD Operation Server (DHDOS) for the first time. In this folder you can find the file DHDOS.OSP. This file includes all data concerning the device or the devices. Furthermore a backup of the data base file is saved into the subfolder DHDOS-BAK.OSP. If the DHDOS indicates an error in the database file, the software automatically saves a copy of the current DHDOS.OSP file - named DHDOS.OSP.defect - and renames the latest backup file to DHDOS.OSP. The file named DHDOS.OSP.1 is always the latest copy of the database and is used in this case. Tip It is recommended to copy the whole Files folder from time to time on an other hard disk or an other PC to create a backup manually. Also the application DHD Communication Server (DHDCS) is extracted, when you start the DHDOS for the first time. This software administrates the whole communication between DHD systems in the network and the related applications on the PC.

The DHD Operation Server (DHDOS) 9 Delete the files DHDOS.exe, OSDataImport.dll and the subfolder Files with all its files to uninstall the software. Make sure that no entity of the DHDOS is still running, before starting the uninstall process. 4.2 The DHD Communication Server (DHDCS) The DHD Communication Server (DHDCS) is a software application which handles the communication between the DHD applications on your PC and the DHD systems in the network. This software needs not to be installed or updated manually. Each DHD application of the following list contains an entity of the DHDCS, which is extracted when you start the application and no DHDCS or an older version of the DHDCS is installed on the PC: Toolbox5 Toolbox4 Toolbox45 DHD Operation Server (DHDOS) DHD Maintenance (DHDMT) RM420-015 TFTConfig RM420-550 Routing Software RM420-552 Setup Manager RM420-553 Remote Control Software RM520-555 Bus Assign RM420-556 Fader Label Changer After extracting, the DHDCS is started at first and afterwards the proper application starts. When you exit the application, the DHDCS is closed automatically. The DHD Communication Server is already described in detail in the RM4200D manual. Until further notice, this description is also valid for all Series 52 applications without any reservations. 10 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 4.3 Working with the DHDOS The server software plays a central role for the interconnection of DHD devices and DHDOM entities. It controls the DHD devices, receives data from these devices, sends this data to connected applications (DHDOM) on the same or several PCs and processes data of these clients. Example of use 1: In the easiest case, the DHD Operation Server (DHDOS) and the client software DHD Operation Manager (DHDOM) are running on the same PC. This is particularly proper to control, for example an Series 52 Compact Router or to backup snapshots from a mixing device. Example of use 2: This example shows a networked server/client structure. The software DHDOS is running on a server PC, which is connected to the office network and a number of client PCs (e.g., in several studios), each with a running entity of the DHD Operation Manager (DHDOM). Through a second ethernet interface the server PC is connected to the DHD devices. Example of use 3: In this case the server/client structure of the previous example is enhanced by a second, redundant entity of the DHD Operation Server (DHDOS). This copy of the DHDOS runs redundant in slave mode on a second PC and observes the processes of the master DHDOS. It is not directly connected to the device. The slave remains in this state until the master fails. If this happens, the slave gets the control of the devices and handles the communication between the several client PCs.

At first an information window opens. It shows the several tasks of the starting process. The progress bar shows, which part of the software is currently loaded. A running DHDOS is indicated by its orange icon in the notification area. Right-click the icon and select Open to maximize the DHDOS program window. The DHDOS window is divided into the menu bar, a part with 5 several tabs, a logging part and the status bar. During the operation it is not needed, that this window is shown. You can minimize it by clicking contextual menu of the DHDOS icon. or select Hide in the The menu bar of the DHDOS contains the commands File, Administration, Logging and? (Help). The functions of this bar are explained in the following section. The current server time is shown in the status bar. This time matches the system time of the PC, where the server is located. If you want to use time-dependent functions of the DHDOS (e.g., executing scheduled crosspoints), we recommend to synchronize the PC time with the studio time. There are several popular applications for this. Ask your IT department for help. The status bar of the DHDOS. Amongst others the current server time is shown here. Further on, the Project ID in the status bar reflects the project, the server is administrating and if the server is running as master or slave. Additionally, in slave mode the IP address of the dedicated master server is shown.

16 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual Selection of a device configuration. Click Select device to load the configuration data from a running device. Selecting a device in the DHD Connection Dialog. If there is already an existing project and the dedicated server is only restarted, the connection to the device does not need to be established again. In this case, the information about the connection are stored in the server project file. If the device you want to use is not reachable in the network or you prefer to load the configuration of the system out of a file, you can do that by using the option Toolbox5 project to choose a file from a drive (Select file). Is there more than one device available in the project file, you have to choose the desired device. By selecting a Toolbox5 project file, the software automatically searches the network for DHD devices with the corresponding Project ID of the project file

The DHD Operation Server (DHDOS) 17 and connects to the chosen device. In the Device window, you can find three more buttons. Click Update device to reload the device configuration if you have made changes in the Toolbox5 project. The update procedure is similar to adding a new device. Click Remove to delete the selected device from the list. The Assign window opens if you click Assign Serial Number. Click Select to use the DHD Connection Dialog to choose a device. Select the Auto detect via PID/DID check box to enable the detection of the device by its project ID (PID) and its device ID (DID). In case of wrong configuration (e.g., two devices have the same project ID and the same device ID) this auto detection mode may not work correctly. To be able to select the desired device manually, deactivate this check box and enter the serial number of the device (the last 3 bytes of the MAC address). Important If the DHD Operation Server is connected to a 52/XR MADI Router and this device is equipped with Communication Controller redundancy, it is essential to activate the Auto detect via PID/DID check box, otherwise the DHDOS is not able to connect to the second controller if the master fails. Assign a serial number. Project Options Identification The character string in the text box Server Description identifies a DHDOS project. This identification is shown within the DHD Operation Manager (DHDOM) logon. Version 1.10.0-30.11.2011

18 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual In the DHDOM login window, the DHD Operation Server entities are represented by the Server Description. The Server Description is an arbitrary character string and can contain all characters in the range A-Z, a-z and 0-9. The number of characters is limited to 32. If you have not entered a string in the text box, the software will automatically use the Project ID as Server Description. The Project ID is imported from the Toolbox project and should not be changed. Server Preferences General If the check box Quit server without confirmation is activated, the safety message is blocked that comes up normally, when the server is closed and the software application is closed immediately. Activate the check box Run Server in DemoMode if you want to operate the DHDOS in demo mode.

The DHD Operation Server (DHDOS) 19 Use the the function Allow several servers on this computer to be able to open several DHDOS entities at the same time on the same PC. Logging You can assign basic settings for the operation of the DHD Operation Server (DHDOS) in the Server Preferences window. Click on the entry Server Preferences in the Administration menu to open its configuring window. It shows 3 tabs. At the first tab you can make settings concerning the logging of commands. The Log File tab of the server preferences window. Logging Output The three radio buttons enables you to select where the logging data should be saved. Activate the File option to log only in a file. The Window option only shows the information in the logging part of the DHDOS. Choose the Both option to log in a file and to see the logging data currently on the screen. Log File Use the text box Log File directory to set the path, where the logging data should be saved. The directory in which you had extracted the program file DHDCS.exe is preselected here. Log files include the logging data as text in ASCII format. They are named by the pattern OSyyyy-mm-dd-xyz.log (e.g., OS2007-04-27-001.log). yyyy stands for the year, mm for the month and dd for the day, when the log file was started. xyz gets incremented if the optionstart new file after x MB is activated. The option Delete files that are older than x day(s) gives you the possibility, that files with a certain age are getting deleted automatically. This option is deactivated by default. Values between 1 and 100 can be entered. Version 1.10.0-30.11.2011

20 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual Important When choosing the directory for the logging files, make sure, that your Windows user account holds write access for this directory! Activate Start new file after x MB to limit the size of the files. This function is not activated by default. All data is written in one single file. Depending on the data traffic, the file can become quite big after a while. You can avoid this by activating this option to adapt the file size to your expectations. So, the logging data is divided into several files. Log events All options in the Log events part are deactivated by default. Activate User Actions to log activities of connected clients. If you want to log only user actions, which are not allowed to use by the respective user, you additionally have to activate the option Only when action denied. The option Master Server Change logs the messages, which are generated if the current DHDOS master drops out and a redundant entity of the DHDOS becomes master. Activate Log logic states to record logical state changes. Communication The ethernet interface of your PC, that is used by the DHDOS to communicate with the DHD network, can be specified on the communication tab. It is recommended to select the network card manually. In automatic mode is not guaranteed, that the DHD Operation Server communicates with the right network. If the message No Network Adapters Available is shown or the desired network adapter is not in the list, please check that the network card is installed correctly. Security In the security dialog you can define, whether changes concerning the server settings can only be done after entering a password. So, it is possible to protect the current settings. This security gate can be activated after a defined time (Lock administration automatically after x minutes). Additionally, this gate can be activated by minimizing the application window (when hiding the server window). All options of the Security tab are deactivated by default. By activating the security check, a new entry (Lock Administration) is added to the Administration menu. The entry is greyed out as long as the administrator is not logged in. If he is logged in, it is possible to log out by clicking this entry.

The DHD Operation Server (DHDOS) 4.4.2.3 21 Logging Menu Suppress Memo Logging (F5) It is possible that some times a lot of messages are shown in the logging area within a short time. The amount of incoming messages depends on the number and the type of the logged messages. You can stop the write out with the command Suppress Memo Logging, if the content of the logging area gets overwritten to fast. Try the command again to continue the write out. Afterwards the protocol tells you how much messages have been skipped during the write out was stopped. Note If in the Server Preferences is defined that the messages are logged into a file too, this will also be done, when you have stopped the write out on the screen. Clear Memo (F8) Use this command to clear the logging area. The logged messages in the log file are not effected by this command. Show Log File (F4) This command opens the log file in the standard editor of your PC. Clear Log File You can delete the content of the current log file by execute Clear Log File. 22 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual License Administration Via the License Administration entry in the Help Menu?, you reach the Software Licensing window. The DHDOS Software Licensing window. Choose the device in the pull-down menu For device you want to add a license to. Enter the license code in the text box Enter license code here. You receive the license code from DHD. This code is created depending on your individual device (serial number), the used software and may be it is also based on further options. Therefore, the license code can not be used for an other device. The Apply button gets selectable when you have entered the code completely. Now, confirm your settings with OK or abort the process with Cancel. The successfully transfer of the license is acknowledged: If it was not possible to transfer the license into the device, the following message appears:

The DHD Operation Server (DHDOS) 23 Check the connection to the device and whether its the right device or not. May be the connection is established in demo mode, that does not support this procedure. The following message comes up if it is possible to transfer the license into the device, but it does not fit: Please check that the entered license suits to the device if you have received several license codes from DHD. Verify your entry depending on the correct notation. Important Please note that the entry of the code is case sensitive. Hence, enter the code exactly like you have received it from DHD. In the text box Licence Info all activated license options for this device are shown. 24 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 5 DHD Operation Manager (DHDOM) Basic Functions The DHDOM includes several software applications and functions that can be activated by license codes. The DHDOM can be considered as a stage that makes it possible to easily integrate new functions and applications. It is the basic software for the following products/licenses: 52-8550 52-8551 52-8552 52-8553 52-8554 52-8555 52-8562 52-8563 52-8565 Routing/Scheduling Software Routing Software Routing Software, single matrix Additional license for 52-8550 Additional license for 52-8551 Monitoring Software Snapshot Manager Software Remote Control Software DSP Control Software (extension is possible) Double click the file DHDOM.exe to start the application. The PCs you use for operating DHDOM entities should have at least a 2 GHz CPU and 512 MB RAM. If you want to use the Remote Control and/or the DSP Control software, DHD recommends to use a CPU with several cores and 1GB RAM. The DHD Operation Manager (DHDOM) has a two-stage login process. Directly after starting the software you will be asked to which DHD Operation Server you want to connect to. For this you have to choose the according system in the drop down menu. Connecting to an DHD Operation Server (DHDOS). Depending on the licenses in the devices, some of the activated functions are already available after this first login step (e.g., Quick Monitor Buttons). But for the most functions you have to login as an authorised user to be able to use these options.

DHD Operation Manager (DHDOM) Basic Functions 25 User login of the DHDOM. Use the following data for your first login. For safety reasons you should change the password afterwards. (See User Management). Username: Administrator Password: DHD Please notice that the username and the password are case sensitive! Is there only one DHDOS reachable, its name is shown in the login window and the software will automatically connect to this DHDOS entity. A drop down menu appears if there are several DHDOS entities reachable in the network. Select the device you want to control. The selection of the DHDOS entity at the user login is not depending on the first login step. That means, you can choose a DHDOS entity you want to connect to in the first step and then you may swap to an other project at the user login step. The different software applications of the DHDOM and their subunits are opened in several tabs. After the user has logged in, the same tabs are opened he had used before he logged out last time. If any problem occurs with a tab during the login process, this tab is closed automatically and will be not opened at future logins. For instance a user had opened a matrix and afterwards the administrator blocks the access right to this matrix. 5.1 Logon to a DHDOS Entity via a Fixed IP Address If there are several DHD Operation Server entities reachable in the network, the DHDOM asks for the entity it should connect to. Provided that you want to connect always to the same DHDOS entity, you can appoint these entity. Therefore, you need to add the command -FixedIP: and the IP address of the server PC to the prompt. An easy way to handle this, is to create a shortcut for the DHDOM. Right click the shortcut and open its properties window. Enter the additional command behind the directory as it is shown in the picture below, including the IP address of the PC the DHD Operation Server you want to connect to is running on. Version 1.10.0-30.11.2011

26 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual Editing shortcut properties. By executing this shortcut, the DHDOM directly connects to the predefined server PC. If you have not assigned a user that is logged in automatically (see Workstations), the user needs to login afterwards. User login to a predefined server PC. If slave entities of the DHDOS are running on other server PCs of the same network, you can add their IP addresses to

DHD Operation Manager (DHDOM) Basic Functions 27 achieve automatically connection to these redundant entities. You just have to add further FixedIP commands to the prompt: -FixedIP:<IP address of the general server PC> -FixedIP:<IP address of the first redundancy server PC> FixedIP:<IP address of the second redundancy server PC>... 28 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 5.2 Licensing The DHD Operation Manager (DHDOM) is a DHD software product that needs to be licensed. That means, you are using the DHDOM software, but you have to purchase one or several licenses for this software. The software application DHD Operation Manager can be operated with different functional range. DHD provides several licenses to make the system cost-effective depending on your special needs. Note For the snapshot management without user administration (for backup purposes) no license is needed. The Licensing is always hardware related. In the RM4200D DSP Frame the licenses are stored in the RM420-852/853 Communication Controller. Please take care about this fact if you need to replace the original controller with an spare part. In all new developed devices (Series 52), the license code is stored in an EEPROM on the backplane of the respective frame. Currently, this concerns the frames 52-6063/6066/5063. If these frames are used, it is not needed to renew the licenses after a controller exchange. This fact makes it easier to work with spare parts. Important DHDOM licenses are always related to DHD hardware. Licenses related to a PC, as it is known from RM4200D software applications, are not available! Temporary licenses for software and functionality tests can be ordered at DHD. You can use every routing and scheduling function described in the DHDOM Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software manual if you purchase the license 52-8550 Routing/Scheduling Software. Contrary to the license 52-8550, with the license 52-8551 Routing Software it is not possible to do scheduling. That means crosspoints can not be controlled time triggered. The license 52-8552 Routing Software, single matrix view is related to the license 52-8551, but with this license it is only possible to create and administrate one matrix. The license 52-8552 is mainly suited for the 52/CR Compact Router. If you hold the 52-8550 license, you can extend it for an arbitrary number of users. Therefore, you need one or more licenses of the type 52-8553 Additional license for 52-8550. For the license 52-8551 it is quite the same. In this case you have to order the license 52-8554 Additional license for 52-8551. If you want to use some workstations only for monitoring, the license 52-8555 Monitoring Software, 20 licenses should be the best choice. At these workstations, all inputs - that are enabled for monitoring by the administrator - can be routed to a defined stereo output. But for administrative purposes you need one of the licenses 528550, 52-8551 or 52-8552. As aforementioned the snapshot management is free for one user (for the administrator). To be able to handle snapshots of a DHD system by several users, you need to purchase the license 52-8562 Snapshot Manager Software. With the license 52-8563 Remote Control Software it is possible to remote control DHD devices. To control the parameters of the DSP functions (e.g., EQs, compressors...) the 52-8565 DSP Control Software license is needed. In conjunction with RM4200D systems, this software application was formerly known as "Access Software". You will get one or several license codes from DHD depending on the ordered licenses and your individual devices. These codes can be transmitted to the device with the DHDOS and are afterwards enduring saved in the device. Please find further information on the licensing process itself in the section License Administration.

DHD Operation Manager (DHDOM) Basic Functions 29 The DHD Operation Server gets the number of valid licenses from the devices and allows the defined number of connections to the devices. In the following examples, 25 workstations can operate the DHDOM at the same time. But that does not mean, that the licenses are reserved for 25 dedicated workstations. You can configure an arbitrary number of workstations to operate the DHDOM, but the number of workstations, that are able to connect to the devices at the same time, depends on the type and the number of licenses in the devices. In the first example routing and scheduling is activated for 5 workstations. Therefore, in this example the routing and scheduling software 52-8550 is purchased once and became extended with 4 additional licenses of the type 52-8553. In parallel 20 further edit stations can be run in monitor mode in this case. For this, you need additionally the license 528555. Example 1: Licenses - 1x 52-8550, 4x 52-8553, 1x 52-8555 Version 1.10.0-30.11.2011

30 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual The structure of the second example is quite the same like in example 1, but other licenses are used. In this example the user does not need the time triggered control of crosspoints, hence the license 52-8551 without scheduling function is used together with 4 licenses of the type 52-8554. Because in this case the license 52-8555 is purchased as well, 20 edit stations can be used at the same time for monitoring like in example 1. Example 2: Licenses - 1x 52-8551, 4x 52-8554, 1x 52-8555

DHD Operation Manager (DHDOM) Basic Functions 5.3 31 User Management Administrators are able to create several users with different priorities. Settings from users with a higher priority are valued as more important then settings from users with lower priority. The users, created in Toolbox5, are imported automatically. Normally, a technician should have more rights then a DJ, because a DJ is mostly not technical trained enough. On the other hand, of course a DJ should be able to control the functions he needs to set. Click on the symbol in the tool bar to open the User Accounts window. The user accounts are shown and you can edit them and add new users. Alternatively, you can reach this window via the Administration menu. Create and edit user accounts. Common Click on the button Add below the User Accounts list to create a new user. The command Remove deletes the currently selected user from the list. Use Copy to duplicate users and their settings. Imported Toolbox5 users can not be copied. Enter a login name for the user in the text box Username on the Common tab. Set a password for the user in the text box Password and enter it again in the text box Password again. You have to assign a new password to a copied user, since the password is not taken over. It is necessary to enter a 4-digit PIN only containing numbers for all users that should be able to login at the console. The account can be activated and deactivated by the check box User account enabled. Note The account of the super administrator can not be removed! Moreover, it is not possible to deactivate the account or to change the priority. Login name and password can be changed. Also the Nobody account can not be removed and only a few settings are possible to adapt. Please find more information on this account in the Features section. Version 1.10.0-30.11.2011

32 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual Important All the passwords must differ from each other, because the system only compares the passwords and PINs respectively and not the usernames. Furthermore, an imported user is not the Toolbox5 user itself, it is a copy of this user. That means the Toolbox5 user and the Operation Manager user are two different users with the same name and PIN. Conversely, changing the name and/or the PIN of an imported user does not influence the user created by the Toolbox5. User Rights Use the check box Administrator in the User Rights section to assign global administrative rights to an user or define the importance of the user by selecting the User Priority (1 = high priority, 10 = low priority). Every workstation is assigned to a virtual mixer (see Workstations). It is possible to allow an user to work with all virtual mixers of a DHD system. Therefore, select the check box Override Mixer Association. The Authorisation section shows the relationship between the currently selected user and the authorisation groups. These relations can not be changed for imported Toolbox5 users. Features For every user can be defined, which applications and features of the DHDOM he is allowed to use depending on the workstation he logged on. Basically, you can assign the desired rights to all workstations and afterwards it is possible to allow or deny special options for the use in conjunction with certain PCs. Or you only configure single workstations from the outset. Assigning available features and options to users.

DHD Operation Manager (DHDOM) Basic Functions 33 Proceed as follows to release the available features to users: Mark one or several users in the User Accounts list. Choose a workstation or the All Workstations tab in the Configured Features section. The right-handed list shows the Available Features. Drag'n'drop the features from the Available Features list to the Configured Features list to release them. The other way round, access to already released options can be denied. Alternatively, you can also use the arrow buttons between the lists to carry out these assignments. If you assign a feature to all workstations and remove this feature for single workstations afterwards, on the All Workstations tab this feature is marked in the column Differences with the term Partially Denied. Vice versa, features that were assigned to single workstations only are marked with Partially Allowed. The Available Features that can be released in detail: Snapshot Manager: Release of the Backups, Mixer Snapshots and Channel Snapshots tabs. Please note, that it is necessary to allow mixer and channel snapshot transfers between each virtual mixer and the DHD Operation Server. Hence you can find the Snapshot Manager entry again for each virtual mixer in the list. Monitoring: Release of the Monitoring Sources tab and the Quick Buttons. Scheduling: Release of the All Scheduled Tasks tab. Remote Control: All available Remote Control Views are listed and can be released. Features on <device>: This branch includes all settings that are related to a device. If there are several devices in the project, separate entries for each device are listed. DSP Control: All available Fixed Processings of the device are listed and can be released. Routing: All configured Matrices of the device are listed and can be released for routing. Scheduling: All configured Matrices of the device are listed and can be released for scheduling. Mixer: This branch includes all settings that are related to a virtual mixer. If a device contains several virtual mixers, separate entries for each virtual mixer are listed. DSP Control: All available Fader Channel Processings of the virtual mixer are listed and can be released. Snapshot Manager: Release of the Mixer and Channel Snapshot Transfer rights to allow snapshot transfers between the respective virtual mixer and the DHD Operation Server. In the User Accounts list you can find a special account called Nobody. This account represents the situation that no user is logged in at the console and is only intended to make it possible to exchange snapshots between the device and the server PC without a user login. If the Nobody account is selected, only the Features tab is provided. Instead of the release of features to the available workstations, in this case the features can be assigned to the Console. Console Options If you activate the check box Allow Console Login, the user is able to login at the console. You need to reenter the password, because in this case the password must be a 4-digit PIN. Since the password is protected, it is not possible for the software to check the existing password, even if this is already an 4-digit PIN. By using the Console Autolock function, you can determine if a user needs to log in again after a certain time. Select a predefined time duration from the pull-down menu (2, 5, 10, 15, 20 or 30 minutes) or select Off to disable this function. Activate the check box Display Name on Console to display the name of the logged in user in all displays of the control modules. Note For imported Toolbox5 users, the settings of the Console Options tab are adopted from the Toolbox5 project and the function Allow Console Login is enabled. These settings can not be changed for imported users. Press Apply to save your settings if you want to continue with the user configuration or press OK to save and close the User Accounts window. It is possible to undo all settings and reload the state you had saved last by pressing Cancel. Version 1.10.0-30.11.2011

40 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 6 Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 6.1 Functions of the DHDOM without User Login After connecting to a device, you can use the monitoring functions even if you do not hold an user login. For this, you can use the Monitoring Sources tab and the quick monitor buttons. Note If you do not hold an user login, you are only able to listen to signals, which are enabled for the respective workstation by the administrator. Please find general information on monitor functions in the section Monitoring. Detailed descriptions of quick monitor buttons and the Monitoring Sources tab can be found in the sections Quick Monitor Buttons and Monitoring Sources.

Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 6.2 41 Routing Functions of the DHD Operation Manager Depending on the license or licenses you have purchased for the DHD Operation Manager, maybe you can not use the whole functional range like it is described in the following. Which functions you are able to use with your respective licenses is written down in the section Licensing. 6.2.1 Configure Routing Matrices In each matrix you can face an arbitrary number of available inputs and outputs. But every single matrix should only include a manageable number of inputs and outputs, which are associated with each other. A matrix can show all signals from and to a studio, for example. So you are able to adapt matrices on special applications or specific users. Click the symbol in the tool bar to create a matrix. Alternatively, you can reach this window via the Administration menu. The Matrices window appears. Within this window you can define the inputs and outputs of the matrices. At first, in the upper left corner of the window, you need to select a device you want to create or edit matrices for. Click on the Add Button below the Matrices list to create a new matrix. Remove drops the currently selected matrix and Clone produces a copy of the selected matrix. Give your matrices significant names in the text box Name. The example shows 5 matrices (left-handed list), each with inputs and outputs of one studio. In every matrix, the relevant signals of a studio (Inputs tab) are combined with the outputs of the routing device (Outputs tab). The right-handed list shows the available sources and sinks, which can be used in a matrix. Drag'n'drop the signals from the list All Channels to the list Channels in Matrix to get them into the matrix. Alternatively, you can also use the arrow buttons to transfer the signals from one list to the other. Besides the physical inputs and outputs, internal signals can be assigned. For instance matrix inputs can be buses, pre-fader signals, clean feeds, fixed processings, output functions and super output functions. Matrix outputs can be selectors or fixed processings, too. A matrix can contain mono and stereo signals. A stereo signal is interpreted as a channel group consisting of a left and a right signal. Stereo signals and channel groups in the list All Channels are represented by a sign in front of the channel name. If you want to insert only one channel of a stereo signal into the matrix, click on the sign and choose the desired channel from the deeper level. Version 1.10.0-30.11.2011

42 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual Note Please notice, that you can use inputs and outputs only one-time in a matrix. So, if a stereo signal is already present in the matrix, it is not possible to insert a single channel of this stereo signal. The same is true for a stereo signal, if already at least one of its channels is present in the matrix. Each matrix can contain at most 4700 input channels and 4700 output channels. For a channel group, all its mono signals need to be counted plus one channel for the group. Example: A stereo signal uses 3 channels (left, right and a group channel). The order in the Channels in Matrix list is the order the channels are shown in the matrix. You can change this order by dragging and dropping entries of the list to another position in the list or you can use the up and down arrow keys. The labels of the channels and MADI ports can be changed. Therefore, select the respective channel or MADI port, click on the symbol and enter a new name. Press Apply to save your settings if you want continue with the matrix configuration or press OK to save and close the Matrices window. It is possible to undo all settings and reload the state you had saved last by pressing Cancel. 6.2.2 Working with Matrices 6.2.2.1 Routing Tabs The control elements of the routing tabs and there functions are explained in the following. Symbol Name Available in Function Zoom In matrix view, all working modes Increases the matrix view (crosspoints are displayed bigger). Zoom Out matrix view, all working modes Decreases the matrix view (more crosspoints can be shown in the window). Switching the crosspoints can be done in 3 different ways: Live Mode: You can connect and disconnect crosspoints directly by clicking them. Preselection Mode: Click on an arbitrary number of crosspoints to preselect there states. Afterwards, all states of the crosspoints can be send at the same time to the device by pressing the Execute... button. Memory Mode: In this mode, crosspoints can be set without influencing the current configuration. Save these settings in memories to load and execute them in the Live and Preselection mode. If an output is already used by an input of another matrix, this is indicated by the crosspoints of the row Other Input (only in Live and Preselection mode). The respective outputs can be connected with the inputs of the current matrix, provided that they are not locked. Click the green dot at the output to lock a channel. Thereupon a red cross is shown instead of the green dot. The routing of this output is now locked and can not be changed directly, but the scheduler passes this lock. You have to click the red cross to enable the output. The state of the output is adopted in all matrices, that include the respective output. Upcoming scheduled events for an output within the next hour are shown by the red cross in the respective column. symbol below the green dot or the The assignments to outputs that are currently used by the scheduler, are not directly set. In this case a message appears and you have to confirm, that you want to overwrite the scheduled task.

Click the plus sign in front of a signal group to be able to set its subchannels independently. Use the minus sign to minimize the view of the branch. In the Memory mode you can find the line Don't Change on top of the matrix instead of Other Input. All crosspoints of this line are activated by default after you have created a new memory. Without this function the complete matrix would be reset, because no crosspoints are activated. If you activate a crosspoint of the memory, the Don't Change selection disappears for the respective output. It is possible to reselect the Don't Change option later on. If you want to deactivate the routing to an output with the memory, you need to assign any input to the output and to deactivate this crosspoint subsequently. This way, the Don't Change option is cancelled and no input is routed to the output. Crosspoint States Crosspoint State Meaning A crosspoint is outlined orange when the mouse cursor is pointing to it. The marked crosspoint is switched by left clicking it. In this picture the marked crosspoint is not active. The crosspoint is active. Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 49 During the software is waiting for a reply from the device, a symbol is shown in the left upper corner of the matrix window. 6.2.2.3 Routing in the List View Double click a matrix of the routing branch or choose a routing tab. You can reach the list view by clicking the symbol in the configuration part. Moreover, you can swap to the list view by the entry Matrix/List View in the menu. Besides the matrix view, it is also possible to set the crosspoints within a list. Apart from the layout, the functions are the same like in the matrix view. Listed crosspoints. Drag'n'drop the inputs from the right-handed list (Available Inputs) to the outputs or use the arrow buttons between the lists. At the bottom of this view you can find input and output filters. Use these filters to hide currently not required outputs of the main section and inputs in the Available Inputs list. If an input is routed to the reserved monitoring output of the workstation the user is working with (see Monitoring), the label of this input is displayed in the Monitoring Input text box. Version 1.10.0-30.11.2011

50 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual Right-clicking a row of the list opens a contextual menu. With Set to Selected Input you can assign the currently marked input of the right-handed list Available Inputs to the respective output. If you have configured a default input (see Channel Properties) for this output you can assign this input using Set to Default, otherwise no input is assigned (the output is released).

Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 6.2.3 51 Scheduling - Time Triggered Routing The DHD Operation Manager (DHDOM) offers a number of functions to automate crosspoint switchings. This switchings are executed by the DHDOS at the configured date and time. Hence, the DHDOM only needs to be opened for the configuration process. Double click a matrix in the Scheduling branch to open the timeline of this matrix. For a better work flow, it is possible to open several matrices at once in different tabs to quickly switch between them. Choose an event in the timeline to edit its settings. The scheduling option can be used for each matrix, provided the logged in user is allowed to use the scheduler (see Features). The number of Scheduled Tasks is not limited. Each scheduled task and its repetitions (scheduled events) are displayed via a separate elements in the timeline. To create a time triggered crosspoint, you have to drag'n'drop the inputs from the list Available Inputs to the outputs of the timeline. This way you can overwrite the source of existing tasks, too. Note New inserted scheduled tasks that will become active within a certain time can be disabled by default, depending on the Global Options settings (see Global Options / Scheduler Options). The factory setting is: "Disable new scheduled task if it would be started within next 5 minutes". Inactive events are displayed in grey if the color settings of the DHDOM are not changed. Version 1.10.0-30.11.2011

52 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual Please see the Scheduler Options for further functions. Choose the desired event with the mouse to be able to edit it. Afterwards three tabs are shown below: Scheduled Task, Repeat and Advanced. Note Scheduled tasks can only be edited by users with the same or a higher priority than the user who has created the task. In the Text View additional filter options are provided. Below the list including the scheduled events you can enter input and output names or parts of these names to hide events that are currently not of interest. The Scheduled Task Tab On the Scheduled Task tab you can enter a distinctive name for the task, set the date and time the task should start and enable or disable the complete task. Deactivate the Duration checkbox to create an endless scheduled event. Otherwise you have to choose the Duration and the end is calculated automatically. With the Special Days checkboxes, you can define whether the task should be executed on Special Days (the desired Special Day Categories need to be activated) or not. (See Special Days) The Repeat Tab Swap to the Repeat tab if you want to configure a repeat pattern for this task. In the upper section the repetition within a day can be configured. Select the checkbox to activate the repetition, choose a time interval between the repetitions and define how long the process should be repeated. Please notice, that the interval needs to be longer then the duration of the task, because the interval characterises the time between the beginning of the event until the beginning of the repetition. You can activate a weekly or monthly repetition in the lower section of the Repeat tab. Select the checkbox Series to activate the repetition and choose the desired interval (Weekly or Monthly). Within the weekly repeat pattern, the days of the week need to be selected, to define the repetitions of the task and whether this should happen every week or with an interval of a certain number of weeks. The configuration can be proceed without a defined end or until a concrete date.

Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 53 If you have selected the monthly repetition, the task is repeated on specific week days in the chosen months, e.g. on every second Friday of every third month. The configuration can be proceed without a defined end or until a concrete date. The Advanced Tab For dependent execution, on the Advanced tab you can define a logic source that needs to be true, otherwise the scheduled task is not executed. Therefore, activate the Use Enable Logic checkbox and click the Select button to assign a logic source. Furthermore, you can set the Scheduled Task's Priority from normal to high. But this schedule priority is only important, if the user priority is identical. More important is the user priority (see Overlapping Scheduling Events). In case that scheduled tasks are deleted automatically after a certain time (see Scheduler Options), it is possible to exclude each task from this process by activating the Exclude from automatic deletion option. All configured tasks can be displayed in a list. For this, you have to double click the Scheduling branch itself in the left-handed list. The All Scheduled Tasks tab appears. Select an entry of this list to edit a task. Version 1.10.0-30.11.2011

54 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual Overview of all scheduled tasks. The list of scheduled tasks can be sorted by each available attribute (e.g. Duration, Time of Creation etc.) ascending and descending. Therefore, click the heading of the desired column. On the Scheduled Events tab in the DHD Operation Server (DHDOS), you can find which events are currently active and which are upcoming next. You can find an overview of all time triggered crosspoints within the DHDOS.

Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 6.2.3.1 55 Overlapping Scheduled Events If several scheduled events are configured for one output at the same time, the respective events will overlap each other. By creating a scheduled event for an output that is already used by an user with the same priority at this time, you will get the following message. Overlapping warning message. You should adapt your configuration, so that no overlapping exits any more. Nevertheless, you need not change your settings, because it is possible to configure overlappings. How these overlappings are handled by the system is explained in the following. These overlapping periods are marked with another color in the timeline view. Note It is not possible to route two different sources to one identical output at the same time. The illustration of overlapping scheduled events. A pull down menu appears after clicking the yellow marked period and you have to decide, which scheduled event you want to edit. The shorter one in front (yellow) or the longer event (blue) in the background. The preferential execution of overlapping events, depends on the event priority and the user priority. That means, an event is executed until another event with higher priority or that was created by an user with higher priority comes up. The following two examples should explain this process for possible applications. Version 1.10.0-30.11.2011

56 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual Examples for the activity of scheduled events. The black lines should represent the duration of the configured events. Which event is active at which time, is shown by the red line above the black lines. On the left-hand-side in the picture above you can see event 1 activated. After a while event 2 comes up and this event was created by an user with higher priority. That's why event 1 is getting stopped and event 2 is active afterwards. In the second example on the right, event 4 is coming up first and is getting activated. Event 3 was created by an user with lower priority. It starts later than event 4 and ends earlier than event 4 and so it is ignored and not executed. If two overlapping events are created by users with the same priority, the event with the earlier acceleration time gets the higher priority. The date of creation is not important for the execution. 6.2.3.2 Scheduler Tabs The control elements of the scheduling tabs and there functions are explained in the following. Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 6.2.4 61 Monitoring Choose the entry Workstations in the Administration menu. The Workstation Configuration window appears. On the Monitor Options tab you can define the basic monitoring functionality of the DHDOM. These settings are not based on single users, but on the PC the respective user logs in. Independent from the chosen monitoring output, with the Allow Monitoring without Login option, you can define if monitoring is possible for the selected workstation without user login or not. If monitoring without user login is allowed, users are able to listen to the released Monitoring Sources and to use the Quick Monitor Buttons, even if they don't hold an user login. Monitoring via an Output of a MADI Module: On the Monitoring Options tab, you can select an output for monitoring signals. Chose the workstation you want to edit in list on the left, activate the Use Monitoring checkbox and select the desired output. Click the loudspeaker symbols (only in Live Mode) in the matrix or list view to connect the respective input with the defined monitoring output. The same output is used, if you select monitoring signals via the Quick Monitor Buttons or the Monitoring Sources tab. Set monitoring options for workstations. Monitoring via TOM Module: To realize this function the True Output Monitoring Module 52-6720 is needed that can only be installed in 52/XR MADI Router frames, but not in RM4200D DSP frames or other devices. Just like the configuration for monitoring via an output of a MADI module, you have to activate the function Use Monitoring and to select an output on the Monitoring Options tab. This is necessary, because with an 52-6720 module it is only possible to listen to outputs. If you want to listen to an input via this module, the respective input is connected to the here selected output and the TOM module eventually gets the signal from this output. Moreover, the checkbox via TOM needs to be activated. In the part TOM Level Control, you can decide how the output signal of the TOM module should be influenced. Version 1.10.0-30.11.2011

62 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual None: The level of the signal can not be influenced and is always set to maximum (0dB). Analog: You can set the level between off, -100dB and 0dB with the potentiometer in the part TOM Live Options for the analog stereo output. The digital output is fixed to 0dB. Digital: You can set the level between off, -100dB and 0dB with the potentiometer in the part TOM Live Options for the digital stereo output. The analog output is fixed to 0dB. Both: You can set the level between off, -100dB and 0dB with the potentiometer in the part TOM Live Options for the analog and the digital output simultaneously. You can control the output signal in the TOM Options part during you are listen to it. (See Controlling the TOM Module) Note The TOM module can only be controlled by one workstation, hence you can select the function via TOM only for one PC. Click the loudspeaker symbols (only in Live Mode) in the matrix or list view to listen to an output or an input via the here defined monitoring output. Also the signals of the Monitoring Sources tab can be output at the TOM module. Please find detailed information about the TOM module in the section TOM Module Specifics. Press Apply to save your settings if you want to continue with the workstation configuration or press OK to save and close the Workstation Configuration window. It is possible to undo all settings and reload the state you had saved last by pressing Cancel.

Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 6.2.4.1 63 TOM Module Specifics Please find more information on the 52-6720 TOM module and its integration in a 52/XR MADI Router in the following section. How to control the TOM module in the DHD Operation Manager (DHDOM) is described in the section Controlling the TOM Module. 52-6720 - XR True Output Monitoring Module A 52-6720 - XR True Output Monitoring Module enables you to monitor outputs directly besides inputs of an 52/XR MADI Router. Flow diagram of the 52-6720 module in a 6HU 52/XR Router frame. Version 1.10.0-30.11.2011

64 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual Tip The monitoring takes directly place before the signal is converted into an optical format. So you are able to check the proper setting of each single crosspoint and if the signal is leaving the router. You can monitor any audio output of the 52/XR MADI Router via the TOM module. Therefore, the module obtains the signals of a chosen MADI port and selects two out of the 64 channels of this port. These signals are then available as analog and digital outputs. (See Pin out of the 52-6720 - XR True Output Monitoring Module) In a 6HU 52/XR MADI Router frame the signals of the backplane where the 52-6720 module is located can be monitored. You need a second 52-6720 module to transfer signals from one backplane to the other. If there are two 52-6720 modules installed in a 6HU 52/XR Router frame, then it is possible to listen to each output of the router via both modules. Note Please notice that the monitoring modules are always linked. That means you are always listening to the same signal on both modules. It is not possible to listen to different signals via the two monitoring modules at the same time. The pins 1 to 4 of the 52-6720 module provide analog signals and the pins 5 to 8 digital signals in the AES3/EBU format.

Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 65 Pin out for the 52-6720 - XR True Output Monitoring Module Read more about monitoring inputs with the 52-6720 module in the section Monitoring via TOM module. Controlling the TOM Module Click on the symbol in the tool bar of the DHDOM to show or hide the TOM Live Options. Alternatively, you can choose the TOM Options entry in the View menu. Define the output mode of the left and right channels of the stereo signals. The following options are provided: L/R (left/right): The left signal is sent to the left channel and the right signal is sent to the right channel. R/R (right/right): Output the right signal on the left and the right channel. L/L (left/left): Output the left signal on the left and the right channel. R/L (right/left): The left and the right signal are inverted. Mono: Sum up the left and the right signal to a mono signal. This mono signal is sent to the left and the right channel. Version 1.10.0-30.11.2011

66 DHDOS/DHDOM - Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual Adjust the options of the TOM module. Activate the checkbox Phase to produce a phase shift on the right channel of a stereo signal. This function is only useful if you have selected a stereo output mode (L/R or R/L). You are able to control the output level of the monitoring signal via the Level potentiometer, insofar this potentiometer is activated. (See Monitoring via TOM Module) Note Please note, at least one 52-8550 Routing/Scheduling Software or 528551 Routing Software license is needed to be able to control the 52-6720 TOM module with the DHD Operation Manager. Without one of these licenses it is not possible to route signals to the outputs of the module and to control the options of the module (TOM Live Options)!

Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 6.2.4.2 67 Quick Monitor Buttons You can listen to defined signals by one mouse click via the Quick Monitor Buttons. For this you need to create buttons in the DHD Operation Manager (DHDOM) and to assign the desired signals that should be connected to the monitoring output. Choose the entry Workstations in the Administration menu. The Workstation Configuration window appears. The monitoring buttons of the DHDOM can be configured on the Quick Monitor Buttons tab. These settings are not based on single users, but on the PC the users log in. The basic settings can only be done by administrators, but every user can modify the enabled buttons depending on personal needs. Modifications done by an user without user login are not saved. These settings will get lost after an user login or when exit the DHD Operation Manager (DHDOM). Configure quick monitor buttons. Select the workstation in the list on the left-hand side you want to edit. You can define the number of buttons (max. 400 buttons) and there arrangement in the Arrangement part simultaneous. That means, you enter the number of the columns as well as the rows and the total of buttons is given automatically (e.g. 5 columns x 4 rows = 20 buttons). In the text boxes Height of a button and Font Size you can enter the vertical size of the buttons and the size of the button labels. The horizontal dimensions are given automatically by the number of columns and the current size of the window. Press Set to confirm your settings. Reset deletes all quick buttons and sets Height of a button and Font Size to the standard values. If there are already defined buttons on other workstations, it is possible to copy these settings to the currently selected workstation by using the function Copy Quickbuttons From. It is possible to undo all settings and reload the state you had saved last by pressing Cancel. 6.3.5 Administration Menu Note The functions of the Administration menu are only executable by administrators. 6.3.5.1 Channel Groups Channel Groups contain single channels, which are related to each other. Stereo signals can be seen as simple channel groups. However, it is not necessary to configure stereo groups, because this is done automatically. If a channel group should contain more than one stereo signal, the group needs to be created separately, e.g. for all 6 channels of an 5.1 signal. It is possible to create channel groups for inputs and for outputs. With the aid of channel groups, it is possible to control a number of signals by switching only one single crosspoint. So, you can reduce the effort concerning the number of needed crosspoint switchings and you will also get a better overview in the matrices. The connection of channel groups always results in a 1:1 routing. That means, that the first channel of an input group is always connected to the first channel of the output group, the second input to the second output and so on.

Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 75 If there is a different number of channels in the connected input group and output group, the 1:1 routing is used until any channels of the input group or the output group are connected. After selecting the entry Channel Groups in the Administration menu the Channel Groups window appears. Alternatively, you can reach this window by clicking the symbol in the tool bar. Combining arbitrary numbers of inputs and outputs in groups. Select the desired device in the pull-down menu on top of the window if the project includes several devices. Use the buttons Add and Remove to create and delete input and output groups. Give your channel groups significant names in the text box Label. In the channel groups you can use all available channels of the list All Channels. Drag'n'drop the signals from the right-handed list All Channels to the list Channels in Channel Group or use the arrow buttons (left & right) between the lists. You can change the order of the channels within the list Channels in Channel Group per drag'n'drop or with the arrow buttons (up & down). Press Apply to save your settings if you want continue with the channel group configuration or press OK to save and close the Channel Groups window. Routing, Scheduling and Monitoring Software Manual 6.3.5.2 77 Channel Properties After selecting the entry Channel Properties in the Administration menu the Edit Channels window appears. Alternatively, you can reach this window by clicking the symbol in the tool bar. The Channel Properties window; Setting channel options. Within this window you can set some options for the input and output channels. Select the desired device in the pull-down menu on top of the window if the project includes several devices. The Inputs tab shows all inputs of the chosen device. Mark an input of the All Channels list to be able to change its name in the Label text box. The same applies to the output channels on the Outputs tab, but there are more options for output channels. With the Lock Logic it is possible to fix the routing for the respective output. That means, as long as the selected logic is true, the routing of the output can not be changed. Therefore, double click on the desired output in the Lock Logic column or click the Select button in the Lock Logic line of the Channel Properties area and select a logic source. In the Logic Sources window you can choose the Invert Logic Level option if you want to use the logical state inverted. If the logic is used inverted, this is shown by an exclamation mark in front of the logic source name in the Lock Logic column. Moreover, you can define what should happen, if a user wants to switch off a crosspoint. Therefore, double click the desired output in the Allow Switch Off column or choose the desired option from the Switch Off Allowed pull-down menu in the Channel Properties area. Three options are offered: 1. Allow: It is possible to switch off a crosspoint. 2. To Default: A predefined source is connected to the output automatically. Afterwards, it is possible to select another source, but not to switch off the crosspoint of the predefined source. 3. Deny: It is possible to select another source, but not to switch off a crosspoint. Hence, it is guaranteed that always an input is connected to the output. The Allow option is set by default for all channels. If the To Default option is selected, you also have to choose an Off Source. Click the Select button in the Off Source line and choose the input signal that should be routed to the output when switching off the current connection. Version 1.10.0-30.11.2011
