Public Works Engineering Technician: Speciality Civil Constructions FIRST YEAR PHYSICAL BASES OF ENGINEERING 3207001 Core 1st 1st semester 6 7.2 Rational mechanics. Wave phenomena. Electricity. Students will be assessed by means of a final exam on the theoretical and practical course content and an exam on the lab practicals. By the end of the course students will be required to know how to fill in gaps in incomplete pluviometric data series; detect and correct systematic and accidental errors in series; measure the rainfall of a given area; calculate the RET by means of the Thornwaite formula; determine river flow using flowmeters and discharge measurements using tracers; separate surface and underground water supply in a hydrogram; calculate maximum flood levels in small natural basins. Theoretical and practical classes using the computer. 40% of the final grade will be based on exercises assigned in class and turned in to the course instructor as well as attendance to 80% of the credit hours. The remaining 60% will be based on the grade obtained on an exam to be given in the computer lab. The exam aims to evaluate the knowledge acquired by the students throughout the semester.
