Logbook for recording of competence by the Aircraft Maintenance Technician Apprentices This logbook has been compiled by the Trade Testing Board appointed in virtue of Article 40 of the Employment & Training Services Act of 1990 to assess the competencies of persons that participate in the Technician Apprenticeship Scheme in the calling of Aircraft Maintenance Technician; in conjunction with the Transport Malta Civil Aviation Directorate to aid the said apprentices comply with the practical training requirements laid out in Legal Notice 82 of 1990 and Legal Notice 41 of 2005. ETC Technician Apprenticeship Scheme - Aircraft Maintenance Technician Practical Training/Basic Experience Log Book Page 1

GENERAL This log book is split in three sections:- INTRODUCTION BASIC SKILLS RECORDING SHEETS MAINTENANCE EXPERIENCE RECORDING SHEETS ETC Technician Apprenticeship Scheme - Aircraft Maintenance Technician Practical Training/Basic Experience Log Book Page 2

INTRODUCTION The apprentice shall fill up the personal details and list the assessors in the personal details page. The apprentice practical training is split in the: BASIC SKILLS TRAINING, and the MAINTENACE EXPERIENCE TRAINING. The Basic Skills Section is aimed to guide the apprentice acquire the basic skills required in the aircraft maintenance trade in line with civil aviation regulations and practices in Europe. The Maintenance experience training is aimed at acquiring the required practical maintenance experience or on-job training (OJT) for the successful completion of the apprenticeship in accordance with Maltese Legislation. The maintenance experience training may be accomplished at: An Approved Maintenance Organisation (Part-145, Part-M Subpart F), or An Aircraft Maintenance Organisation recognized by the Transport Malta Civil Aviation Directorate, or An organization recognized by the appointed Trade Testing Board. The employers providing on-the-job training shall endeavour to organize, manage and assess the basic skills training in its entirety in conjunction with the vocational educational institutions providing the theoretical and practical training. The Logging sheets have provisions for entering: Personal Data, Names of assessors and supervisors, Aircraft and Registration Marks, ATA Chapters, Practical Training/Tasks. Category (Category Column is associated with the (EC) No 2042/2003 Part-66 Aircraft Maintenance Licence categories and is only included for the benefit of the apprentices pursuing the obtainment of the Part-66 AML) The apprentice shall record the training carried out and the assessor shall verify this information and make the necessary remarks regarding the competency and level achieved by the apprentice. The apprentice and assessor shall ensure that he/she has obtained competency in all the relevant Basic Skills listed in this logbook during his/her training period. All entries shall be made in ink. The nature of the involvement in task or intervention should be specified (execution, assistance, control, supervision). A new entry would be sufficient per day to count for the work experience time interval requirement. The assessors for the Basic Skills Section needs to be so recognised by the Trade Testing Board. The assessor for the maintenance practical training shall be nominated by the maintenance training organisation or the maintenance organisation. When logging maintenance tasks carried out on in-service aircraft, the supervisor can sign for the task and assessor endorses the experience. The Assessor needs to make sure he/she carries out an evaluation of the work carried out and progress made by the apprentice.
