APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS For use only by students applying to the MBA in Global Business and Strategy program offered by The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico 1. Application Packet This application packet is to be used only by students applying for admission to the graduate Master of Business Administration Global Business and Strategy (MBA-GBS) program offered by The Belk College of Business at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte) and the Graduate School of Business Administration and Leadership (EGADE) at Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) in Monterrey, Mexico. 2. Application Deadlines The application deadline for admission to September 2008 Class is July 15, 2008, for January 2009 is November 15, 2008. Please submit your application and required credentials well in advance of the published deadline dates. The Universities may alter the date for acceptance of applicants without further notice in accordance with available resources and enrollment limitations established by the North Carolina General Assembly and Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. 3. Application Forms - Complete the enclosed application for ITESM, using black or dark blue ink. Please complete all fields and use the Roman alphabet. You may write N/A (not applicable) or Unknown as appropriate. Failure to complete any section of the application form will delay the admissions process. Sign and date the completed application form. - Complete the online application for UNCC, instructions are included in the website attachment. 4. Processing Fees A. UNCC Processing Fee of US $ 55.- A non-refundable US$ 55.- fee is charged to process your application for admission to UNCC. You may pay this fee with a credit card during the online application. Do not send cash. B. ITESM Processing Fee of US $ 25.- A non-refundable US$ 25.- fee is charged to process your application for admission to ITESM. You may pay this fee only with a check if the application is mailed or in cash at EGADE. Please staple your fee in the upper left corner of your ITESM application. A check should be made payable to ITESM-Campus Monterrey and should include your name. The check must have your address printed on it. The fee must be paid with US funds drawn on a US bank. This fee can not be paid by credit card. If the application is mailed do not send cash. Important Note: Applications will not be reviewed until the application fees are paid. The application fees cannot be waived. 1
5. Copy of Bachelor s Degree Submit one copy of a bachelor degree from a regionally accredited College or University, along with its English language translation (with Apostille 1 for studies made outside of México). The minimum qualification for consideration for admission to the MBA-GBS program is a bachelor s degree requiring at least 4 years of university study. Three-year degree holders are not eligible to apply unless they have already completed a master s degree program or are in the process of completing a master s degree program, and will receive the degree, prior to enrollment to this program. 6. Official Transcripts and Transcript Evaluations A. Official Transcripts Submit the official transcript or record of all university-level course work. Transcripts, in general, should give a complete list of courses taken, indicating the number of weeks and the number of hours as well as the marks (grades) earned. The records should indicate all degrees earned and have a key to the grading system used. Transcripts must be issued by each institution at which course work was taken. Degree statements must be in your original language, along with English language translations that follow the format of your original transcript. English translations must be certified by the issuing institution or an embassy office, the Ministry of Education or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If you are currently enrolled at a university-level institution, submit your current academic transcripts. You can submit your final transcripts reflecting all work as soon as they become available. If your records are unavailable for any reason, you must provide a written explanation signed by an official of the institution you attended and submit that letter with your other application materials. If exams are not administered by the university until the final year of the degree program, please provide an official letter from the university to verify this fact. (with Apostille 2 for studies made outside of México) B. Definition of Official or Certified Documents Transcripts or records are official when submitted by the applicant to the Admissions Office in the envelope sealed by the issuing institution. Official documents have either a colored stamp or raised seal affixed to them. They may also be a photocopy of the original document certified by an official of that educational institution, an embassy office, the Ministry of Education, or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. UNC Charlotte and ITESM do not recognize downloaded transcripts from the web or scanned copies as official documents. 7. 8. Birth Certificate Submit one copy of your birth certificate (with Apostille or authentication for non-mexican applicants) 9. Recommendation Forms Three recommendations are required. Complete the Recommendation Forms requested at UNCC online application, print them and submit them with your other application materials. 10. Statement of Purpose Provide a one-page statement outlining your goals for pursuing graduate education; specifically discuss how the MBA-GBS program at UNC Charlotte/ITESM can help you achieve these goals. You should submit this essay during the UNCC online application, print and submit along with your other application materials. 11. Resume (Curriculum Vitae) or Description of Work experience Please provide a resume (curriculum vitae) or a description of your employment history. Include the name of the company you worked for, your position, the dates of your employment as well as a short description of your responsibilities. Professional work experience is required for admissions to MBA-GBS program. 12. Statement of Financial Responsibility/Affidavit of Financial Support. (Forms #5A and #5B ). The Statement of Financial Responsibility must be completed only by non Mexican applicants. If any family member or friend will serve as your sponsor/guarantor, s/he must complete the Affidavit of Financial support and include a letter or statement from the bank (including certified English translation) which verifies the availability of liquid funds in the amount of US$ indicated on the Statement of Financial Responsibility. See Statement of Financial Responsibility and Affidavit of Financial Support for further details. Please note that the Statement of Financial Responsibility/Affidavit of Financial Support is, in itself, not a requirement for admission. However it is a requirement for issuance of legal forms. Including the Statement of Financial Responsibility/Affidavit of Financial Support with your application materials will expedite the process of issuance of legal forms which you need to apply for an FM-3 visa. 13. Photographs Provide four (2) passport-size photographs 14. GMAT /PAEP You are required to take the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Prueba de Admisión a Estudios de Posgrados (PAEP). The GMAT test is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). Visit www.mba.com for more information or to register for the test. Scores older than two years will not be accepted. Official scores must be sent directly by the testing agency to ITESM and UNCC. Minimum score accepted: 575 ITESM s school code is: 8JC-71-82 UNCC s school code is: 5Z3-08-27 15. English Language Proficiency (if English is not your native language) Success at UNC Charlotte / ITESM depends upon the student s ability to converse in, write, and understand (American) English. To assure such competence, the university requires any applicant whose native language is not English, and/or who has been educated primarily outside of the U.S., to submit official TOEFL scores. To be considered official, the scores must be sent directly from the testing agency to ITESM and UNCC. Test scores older than two (2) years (for the Official version) and one (1) year (for the Institutional version) are not admissible. 3
Applicants who are citizens of, or who have received an associate s degree or higher in one of the following countries, are exempt from the English language proficiency requirement: Australia, British Caribbean and British West Indies, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, Liberia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and United States.
