Benchmarking Benchmarking, used in the context of energy efficiency, is a comparison of a facility s level of energy efficiency with that of similar facilities nationwide. It allows building owners and managers to track and assess the energy performance of their buildings. Benchmarking is becoming a legal requirement in a growing number of situations. California has passed a law (AB1103) that will require benchmarking ratings for nonresidential buildings before they can be sold, leased, or refinanced. Also, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) now requires benchmarking prior to participating in most of SoCalGas commercial energy-efficiency programs (including rebates and incentives).

Benchmarking Besides meeting legal benchmarking requirements, other benefits of benchmarking your facility with Portfolio Manager are: It provides an easily understandable Benchmarking Rating for the energy efficiency of your facility. It helps you manage the energy performance of your facilities. It helps determine if your building can qualify for recognition with the ENERGY STAR label, or with a certification from LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). It can be used to document performance in energy service contracts. It helps highlight energy-efficient buildings in sale or lease transactions.
