BUCHANAN MICHIGAN 49107 TASK: BTFD001 SUBJECT: Self Contained Breathing Apparatus Equipment Required by student: Full PPE, 1 SCBA and Mask, 4 feet of working area. Students will work in pairs if needed. H.O.T. Outline: 1. Have student review all parts of SCBA and Mask, perform full inspection. 2. Students perform basic Firefighter I donning of SCBA. 2a. 60 seconds to check fo 90% full, gauges within100psi, pass and low air alarm activate, don pack, don mask and hood, check for user face seal, attach regulator, check inhalation/exhalation valves, positive pressure, put on helmet and pick up gloves. 3. Have students remove bottle and arrange on floor. Time the students on replacing bottle, making all connections, donning the SCBA/Mask going to air. 4. Have students remove bottle and arrange on floor. Time the students on replacing bottle, making all connections, donning the SCBA/Mask going to air with gloves on. 5. Have students demonstrate finding solution to SCBA malfunction ie; start at bypass valve, hose to gauge, down to regulator to bottle connection/valve. 7. Have students perform shift/ditch method, releasing 1 strap to loosen pack and shift pack to 1 side, reducing firefighter profile then place pack back into correct postion after passing through obstacle. 8. Student will control breathing with 500psi in the bottle. A proctor will time how long student can make bottle last even after low air alarm stops alarming(125psi).
