Her research interests concerns Human-Computer Interaction and Affective Computing with focus on the role of affective and cognitive states in humancomputer interaction and in computer-mediated cooperative work. She obtained a PhD on Computer Science from the University of Bari in May 2010, discussing a thesis on Lexical Semantics of Dialogue Act, under the supervision of dr. Carlo Strapparava of the Human-Language Technology of the Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK, former IRST in Trento. She also collaborated on research projects on Ambient Intelligence and Ambient Assisted Living, Recommender Systems, Social Network Analysis and E-Learning. She is currently investigating the role of human factors in Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW), with particular focus on collaborative distributed software development and the role of emotions in social media. Since 2007, she has been involved in teaching and student supervision for case studies and thesis projects on Intelligent Interfaces, Agent Systems, and CSCW. She published more than 50 papers on international journals and proceedings of international conferences and workshops (with revision process), cooperating with more than 20 co-authors from different institutions. She has been invited as a visiting researcher at the University of Southern California, the University of Aberdeen, and the FBK institute in Trento. She participated in the HUMAINE European (Human-Machine Interaction Network of Excellence on Emotions) project for research on Emotions, and in InterSocial (Unleashing the Power of Social Networking for Enhancing Regional SMEs), a project funded by the European Territorial Cooperation Operational Programme Greece-Italy 2007-2013. She participated in four more projects financed by the University of Bari on computer-mediated communication and intelligent agents. She is member of the AAAC The Association for the Advancement of Affective Computing and of the program committee of the workshops User Models for Motivational Systems (since 2010) and AI *HCI 2013 - Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). She has been member of the organizing committee of ICGSE 2013 - the 8th IEEE International Conference on Global Software Engineering, where she has also given a tutorial on Social Network Analysis for Global Software Engineering and she is in the program committee of ATSE 2015, The First International Conference on Advances and Trends in Software Engineering. 1/14
Since 2011 she is active in business development through technology transfer. In 2012 she won two business plan competitions promoted by local government and chamber of commerce (Valore Assoluto and Principi Attivi), receiving 95000 euro overall as a seed funding for Splashmood Srl, an ICT company working on the development of mobile solutions for event promotion through gamification. She is Chief Technology Officer and Chief Operative Officer of the company. Since 2011 she is involved in the organization of events aimed at fostering innovation in ICT: BeMyApp Bari, a marathon of Apps development with more than 800 attendees, Follow-App, a course on developing scalable business based on mobile technologies, and F5 - Hit Refresh, the first Italian Open Innovation summer camp on language technologies.
