Profile of Speakers Wan Saifulrizal Wan Ismail is the Director for the Risk Consulting and Software (RCS) of Towers Watson Malaysia. He leads the insurance consulting practice of Towers Watson in Malaysia as well as takaful initiatives for Towers Watson. Prior to joining Towers Watson, Wan Saifulrizal was the Deputy Director and Actuary in the Insurance and Takaful Supervision Department, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM). With 9 years of experience in supervision of insurance/takaful companies, he has practical knowledge in various aspects of insurance/takaful operations. He was also significantly involved in policymaking such as Concept Paper for Risk-Based Capital Framework for Takaful Operators, Guidelines on Takaful Operational Framework, Guidelines on Valuation of Family and General Takaful Liabilities and Guidelines on Stress Testing for Insurers and Takaful Operators. Since joining Towers Watson, Wan Saifulrizal has been involved in various assignments ranging from M&A due diligence to integration, Appointed Actuary for a takaful company in Malaysia, product strategy and supporting local insurance and takaful industry associations in research and strategy review. Wan Saifulrizal is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (FIA), UK. He is also currently a member of IFSB Working Group on Retakaful (Islamic Reinsurance) Undertakings. Wan Saifulrizal is also currently the facilitator of Risk Management Training for Insurance and Takaful Directors under the Financial Institution Director s Education Program, a directors training program supported by BNM. Nicholas Chen is a Senior Consultant with Towers Watson in our Insurance Management Consultancy Practice in Asia Pacific. Since joining Towers Watson in July 2013, Nicholas has worked on a number of strategic, M&A, and market entry type assignments across the region. Prior to joining Towers Watson, Nicholas worked at the Corporate Headquarters of AIG across a range of functions, including: Business Transformation, Operations, Strategic Planning, M&A, Market Entry, Restructuring and Innovation. He played a key role in one of the largest corporate restructurings in history. He has strong experience in P&C and Life Insurance, M&A and Market Entry, Corporate Strategic Planning, Distribution Strategy, Business Transformation, Restructuring, Operational Effectiveness, Innovation, Social Media and Crowdsourcing. Nicholas graduated from Purdue University, West Lafayette, USA with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. Page 2 of 5

Bill Johnston joined Towers Watson in February 2014 as the Head of Insurance Distribution Performance Improvement, Insurance Management Consultancy, Asia Pacific to lead the insurance sales effectiveness practice, drawing on Towers Watson s extensive insurance and people expertise. Bill has worked in the financial services industry for over 25 years, 13 in Asia with 6 years of experience in Indonesia. He has developed top echelon retail sales, distribution, leadership and change management skills, and held senior management positions with Manulife Indo, AXA Indo, HSBC and Prudential (UK). Bill is currently based in Singapore, and has been living in Asia since 2001, including Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia. He has led the development and implementation of the Bancassurance model for a multinational insurer in Singapore that was adopted by France, Brazil and the Middle East. In addition to leading the roll out and design of the HNW business, including partner identification and introduction, he led the Agency and IFA business model revamp which included a new technology (advisor portal) platform. For the retail business, Bill helped design and implement a Global initiative, piloted in Singapore that focused on improving RM productivity, customer experience and activity management through consultative selling and advisor portal programs. Bill also led partnerships for large local and MNC banks for a multinational insurer in Singapore. Bill has worked on Life Insurance Association (LIA) committees in both Indonesia and Singapore with focus on increasing professional development and revamping the fact find requirements for the industry. He has also been involved in 3 acquisition projects with leadership roles that included; due diligence, over all roll out and communication, merger of sales forces and compensation transition. Bill obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from York University, Toronto, Canada and in 1999 he obtained his CLU designation. He also worked in the largest Canadian Bank (Royal Bank) and the largest insurance company (London Life) where he developed his strong sales, distribution, leadership and change management skills. Hasham Piperdy (Hash) is the Director of Benefits and leads the benefits practice for Towers Watson in Malaysia. Hash has close to 15 years international benefits consulting experience. He has extensive experience in providing consulting services to clients related to benefits including pre and post deal M&A advice (buy-side and sell-side). Prior to joining Towers Watson, Hash was a senior consulting actuary in PwC s corporate advisory team in London and before that led the actuarial consultancy in Scandinavia for another global consultant. He has consulted with a wide range of stakeholders regarding actuarial and benefits related issues including Private Equity houses, public and private sector organisations. His breadth of experience among other things includes M&A advice, International Benefits Strategy, Actuarial Valuations and Asset/ Liability Management. Hash is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK. In 2013, Hash co-authored a research paper for the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries regarding the use of different business valuation methods to value companies that sponsor employee benefit plans. Mary Chua is the Talent and Rewards Leader for Towers Watson in Malaysia. At Towers Watson, Mary is responsible for the entire Talent & Reward practice which encompasses the following service lines: Talent Management and Rewards, Executive Compensation, Communication & Change Management and Global Data Services. Mary is an international HR practitioner with close to 20 years of consulting and corporate HR experience. Prior to joining Towers Watson, she was a senior consultant at another global consultancy firm based in the UK, and had also worked in the European head office of one of the world's largest logistics company as their European & UK Country HR Head based in London. Before London, Mary was the Asia Pacific Senior HR Director for a large NYSE-listed media conglomerate, and also held consulting roles in the former Watson Wyatt Singapore & Japan. Mary has experience in both public and private sector consulting, and also led projects in a wide spectrum of sectors and geographies. In Malaysia, she has considerable consulting experience in Total Reward Strategy and Design with some of the largest Bursa-listed organisations. Mary holds a Bachelor s degree in Social Sciences from the National University of Singapore and a Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management from the Singapore Institute of Management. Lim Chin Han is the Managing Director for Towers Watson in Malaysia. He has been in consulting for more than 20 years. Chin Han has consulted with organisations across government, economic corridors, media, construction, financial services, consumer products, pharmaceuticals, oil & gas, manufacturing, telcos and services, in multiple situations including change events, mergers, transformations and strategic investments and divestments. In his role, he works with senior management of companies including Board members across a wide range of consulting engagements. He represents Towers Watson at the Steering Committees of engagements and ensures that global and regional resources are deployed at the right time and level depending on engagement requirements. His main areas of expertise include strategic and tactical HR interventions, leadership assessments, corporate governance, organisation & Board effectiveness and M&As. In the Board and governance space, he has conducted numerous studies on Board effectiveness and remuneration since 2001, and has consulted with more than 30 Boards over the last 10 years to develop their Board effectiveness and remuneration structures. Chin Han is a graduate of the London School of Economics and is also a member of the Institute of Actuaries. Page 4 of 5

Alan Merten is the Director for Insurance Consulting, Asia Pacific in Towers Watson. He has had a broad-ranging career working in both consulting and corporate financial services roles for a number of organisations. Alan has lived and worked in Australia, Asia and Europe and has been involved across the breadth of financial services, working in life, general and health insurance as well as retail funds management and retail and corporate pensions markets. Alan has successfully led different organisations through both evolutionary and transformational change in dynamic growth environments as well as during times of constraint and rationalisation. His experience in distribution includes bank, tied agency, aligned and 3rd party financial planning networks, corporate (tied and broker) and direct distribution including negotiating and implementing a major bancassurance deal in Indonesia. Alan works with the Towers Watson Insurance Management Consulting team and supports the development of the breadth of the merger and acquisition services provided to insurance clients in the Asia Pacific region. Alan s academic achievements include a B.Ec. from Macquarie University as well as an M.B.A. from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, earned with numerous university awards.
