About Tung Wah College Tung Wah College (TWC) is a self-financing tertiary education institution incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs). TWC builds on the time-honoured strengths and experience of TWGHs in health, social and pedagogical services to design and implement high-quality education programmes that emphasise social values as well as theory and applications. All of its programmes are accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ). Bachelor of Health Science (Honours) The Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc(Hons)) is to prepare graduates who are competent to work in health and social care arena. Graduates majoring in Nursing of the BHSc(Hons) are eligible to be registered as Registered Nurse with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong (NCHK) whereas graduates majoring in Applied Gerontology can work as multi-skilled residential care practitioners in various settings that involve working with elderly. The BHSc(Hons) programme requires students to successfully complete 138 credits of taught courses (on both discipline and generic studies) and 13 credits of clinical practicum, alongside 8 to 12 months of Co-op Education. The BHSc(Hons) programme requires students to successfully complete 114 credits of taught courses (on both discipline and generic studies) and 6 credits of clinical practicum, alongside 8 to 12 months of Co-op Education. Co-operative Education is one of the characteristics of the Programme. All BHSc(Hons) students (except senior year entrants) are required to fulfill 8 to 12 months of paid work starting from of Year III. They will be equipped with solid work experience to strengthen their competitive edge in future job-hunting.

Admission Interview Applicants who meet the admission requirements of BHSc(Hons) are subject to a selection process in the form of group interview. Applicants will be assessed in the following areas: Subject knowledge General knowledge Communication skills both English and Chinese Interpersonal skills Listening skills Ethical sense Problem solving skills Creativity Initiative Social awareness Relevant experience Admission Requirements The applicants should meet one of the following requirements: BHSc(Hons) Majoring in Nursing (i) Have obtained Level 3 for Chinese Language and English Language and Level 2 for Mathematics and Liberal Studies plus one Elective Subject under Category A at Level 2 ("3322+2") in HKDSE; OR (ii) Have passes in AS Use of English and AS Chinese Language & Culture plus one AL subject/ two AS subjects in HKALE and five passes in HKCEE (including Chinese Language and English Language) with at least Grade C in one of the HKCEE subjects and obtained Grade E in HKCEE Biology/ Human Biology/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Physics; OR (iii) Have passes in AS Use of English and AS Chinese Language & Culture plus one AL subject/two AS subjects in HKALE and Level 2 for Chinese Language and English Language plus passes in three other subjects in HKCEE with at least Grade C in one of the HKCEE subjects (or Level 3 for Chinese Language or English Language) and obtained Grade E in HKCEE Biology/ Human Biology/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Physics; BHSc(Hons) Majoring in Applied Gerontology (i) Have obtained Level 3 for Chinese Language and English Language and Level 2 for Mathematics and Liberal Studies plus one Elective/ Applied Learning Subject at Level 2 ("3322+2") in HKDSE; OR (ii) Have passes in AS Use of English and AS Chinese Language & Culture plus one AL subject/ two AS subjects in HKALE and five passes in HKCEE including Chinese Language and English Language; OR (iii) Have passes in AS Use of English and AS Chinese Language & Culture plus one AL subject/ two AS subjects in HKALE and Level 2 for Chinese Language and English Language plus passes in three other subjects in HKCEE; (iv) Satisfactory completion (with GPA 3.0) of a Pre-Associate Degree Programme; OR (v) Applicants holding the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma should possess a minimum of 28 points and fulfill the following English language requirements: (a) Grade 4 or higher in the Higher Level English Language (B Syllabus); or (b) Grade 5 or higher in the Standard Level English Language (B Syllabus); or (c) Grade 4 or higher in the Higher or Standard Level English Language (A1 or A2 Syllabus); or (d) Grade 4 or higher in the Standard Level English - Text and Performance; or (e) Grade 4 or higher in the Standard Level English - Literature and Performance (A1 Syllabus); OR (vi) Equivalent qualifications (such as meeting the entry requirements of a degree programme offered outside Hong Kong). Career Prospects & Further Studies Graduates in Nursing Major are eligible to be registered as Registered Nurse with the NCHK. They can work in hospital settings such as emergency department, operating room, paediatrics, medical and surgical units. They can also work in community settings, e.g. elderly care centres or out-patient departments. Graduates in Applied Gerontology Major can start their career in elderly service in community settings at middle management level as residential care practitioners or elderly care co-ordinators, and be advanced to managerial positions like Centre Administrators or General Managers in elderly homes, day care centres, rehabilitation centres, etc. in the elderly care industry. Graduates in Applied Gerontology Major are expected to perform the following roles in the elderly care industry: (i) As multi-skilled residential care practitioner and health gatekeeper - to work independently in elderly care settings providing general support to ageing population in community, clients in residential homes and institutions delivering health and social services by employing appropriate assessment procedures, effective intervention strategies, evaluating the outcome of intervention, making timely referrals to appropriate professionals or social service system for further interventions; (ii) As case manager - to work in partnership with older people and their family carers to enhance the quality of life and functioning abilities of older people by organizing various social, educational, recreational programmes for the older people; (iii) As coordinator to facilitate and coordinate inter-sectoral and inter-disciplinary collaboration for delivering elderly health and social care among various health care and social welfare organizations to provide holistic and one-stop service; (iv) As ambassador - to advocate for the elderly care profession and inform the policy maker of the evolvement of the industry in the long run. Graduates with good academic results may pursue postgraduate studies in various areas including Master of Education, Nursing, Public Health, Social Science and Management, which will lead to career advancement as nurse specialists, clinical managers, health educators and teachers.

Co-operative Education Scheme All degree students (except senior year entrants) are required to complete 8 to 12 months of the Co-operative Education Scheme (Co-op) during their course of study. During this period, students engage in full-time paid employment while at the same time reading an appropriate number of courses at the College. The Co-op approach to higher education is designed to bridge the gap between academia and the real world, and to integrate and mutually reinforce the learning experience in the classroom and in the workplace. Characteristics of the Scheme Formal Recognition Co-op is one of the graduation requirements of all Bachelor s degree students of the College. Performance of the students will be graded and reflected in their academic transcripts. Formal Curriculum Co-op is regarded as an educational strategy integrating classroom learning and progressive work experiences, with a constructive academic relationship between teaching staff and co-op faculties/administrators. Students will obtain multiple work experiences in formalised sequence with study leading to degree completion. Total Experience Students will engage in 8 to 12 months of full-time paid employment while at the same time undertaking an appropriate number of courses. Full Support from the College The Co-op and Career Coaching Centre provides students with pre-employment preparation, job matching services, ongoing advising, monitoring, as well as supervision.
