Nursing Nutrition La Salle s Nursing Program provides students with a strong foundation for a career in a wide range of professions available to nurses today. Students have the opportunity to learn from faculty known for leadership and scholarship and to gain firsthand experience in a variety of clinical settings, from community clinics to large health systems. Post-graduation Opportunities: Nurse Medical Practices Hospital Community Clinic La Salle s Nutrition programs provide the fundamental knowledge and the experiential learning opportunities students need to become professionals in the nutrition field. Students who enroll in La Salle s Coordinated Program in Dietetics get a jumpstart on their careers by completing their 1,200-hour internship requirement during their senior year. These students can begin their careers as registered dietitians immediately after graduating and passing the credentialing examination. La Salle s Coordinated Program is one of only approximately 30 similar programs in the country and the only one of its kind offered in Philadelphia. Public Health With an emphasis on social justice and respect for each individual, La Salle s Public Health programs prepare students to work in health education, health promotion, and disease prevention initiatives in their local communities and around the world. These programs are rooted in the belief that the health and safety of a community as a whole is fundamentally linked to the welfare of its citizens. Post-graduation Opportunities: Occupational Health and Safety Chronic Disease Surveillance Emergency Management Industrial Hygiene Speech-Language-Hearing Science Through our high-quality Speech-Language-Hearing program, excellent teaching, and a variety of hands-on learning experiences offered at La Salle, undergraduate students are well-prepared for graduate studies at many prestigious institutions, including La Salle. The University also offers an accelerated five-year program in which undergraduate studies lead directly into coursework toward a Master of Science in speechlanguage pathology! Graduates of La Salle s Master of Science program in speech-language pathology have an excellent track record in launching their careers their employment rate is nearly 100 percent. Did you know? La Salle University s Speech-Language-Hearing Science Program is proud that for the past six years, (2008 2013), the graduates of the MS Program in Speech-Language Pathology achieved a passing rate of 99 percent on the national certification exam that all speech-language pathologists must pass to be certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The national average passing rate is 75 to 80 percent.
During my first week at La Salle, I met a Christian Brother who described to me what a Lasallian education is. Jillian Baker is a trained community mental health counselor who is conducting groundbreaking research into the prevention of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections in vulnerable populations. Her most recent project has involved going into Philadelphia barbershops to talk to fathers and their sons about prevention. Overall, it s been a really exciting and humbling experience, she said. It opened my eyes that there s a need for this and there s a desire to take part in this. Visit Us! As an accepted student, there are a number of options for you to visit our beautiful 133-acre campus. Student Shadowing La Salle s Student Shadowing Program allows accepted high school seniors the opportunity to experience a typical day at La Salle University. They will shadow current students, accompanying them to two or three classes and lunch. This opportunity allows participating students to develop a stronger sense of La Salle s community on an educational and personal level at a very important time in their college search. Blue and Gold Days La Salle s Blue and Gold Days are geared specifically towards accepted high school seniors. By joining us on Saturday, April 5 or Saturday, April 12, you are allowing yourself one final opportunity to visit us before making a final decision on which school you will attend on or before May 1.
