18 Güntner Competence Air Conditioning 19 Free cooling Free cooling is particularly beneficial with air conditioning systems, and especially for process cooling with all-year operation. Effectiveness: When the ambient temperature is lower than the return temperature from the consumer unit, the cooling medium is always routed via the drycooler and cooled by the ambient air. This relieves the chiller and decreases the output. Below a defined ambient temperature the drycooler assumes the complete cooling capacity and the chiller switches off. This system covers a large part of the annual operating hours with free cooling, and therefore significantly reduces energy consumption and saves on costs. The diagram shows an example of the breakdown of operating hours between free cooling and the chiller. In areas with ambient temperatures below 0 C, a separate circuit with a water-glycol mix is required for the drycooler.

22 Güntner Competence Air Conditioning 23 Optimum coordinated regulation Güntner Controls has been delivering efficient and top quality controllers and switch cabinets, which are continuously further developed in accordance with the requirements of the refrigeration technology, for many years now. The units used are developed and produced in-house. They are therefore harmonized with the Güntner drycoolers and condensers and form a very important element of the intelligent Güntner heat exchanger systems. Why control? The condensation temperature in a compression refrigeration system should be as low as possible to minimize compressor operating costs, but high enough to guarantee the system s proper functioning at all times. Fan controlling is the most technically feasible method to achieve this objective. How to control? The basis for speed controlling is the recording of the current as-is values, such as pressure or temperature. The required control signals (RPMs) are calculated in the controller using the setpoint. Depending on the motor technology this setpoint is forwarded via the bus system to the fans directly or to a power. The bus system also enables constant communication with the fan or the power to be able to respond to incidents, such as operating information or faults, for example. The difference is made here between a constant and a stepped control principle. Güntner controllers are available for both control principles and have been specially developed for Güntner condensers and drycoolers, and are harmonized with AC or EC fan technology.

24 Güntner Competence Air Conditioning 25 Switch cabinets and control concepts The appropriate switch cabinets can be optionally ordered for every Güntner condenser and drycooler, with and without controllers. You have the option here of choosing between Güntner standard and customized switch cabinets. All switch cabinets are planned, designed, built and tested at Güntner s Controls division. Together with you, we subsequently produce and offer the appropriate switch cabinet and control concept. These switch cabinet concepts are then optimally adjusted to the set-up, output, energy efficiency and service life of the Güntner units. On-site and on request, switch cabinets are set up and wired directly to the unit. As an option we also offer you initial start-up operation by our specialist staff. This is where air-cooled condensers and drycoolers are the only sensible alternative. This produces higher energy costs, but no consumption of desalinated seawater for evaporation cooling.

28 Güntner Competence Air Conditioning 29 Failure safety Thermodynamically precise constructions We run precise thermodynamic calculations to meet your requirements and select the right unit. We give you the optimum solution for your application specifications with reliable noise and power data. Don t just compare the price with offers you should also compare the technical data. Reliable Güntner units and equipment have various properties that make them especially fail-safe. - The Güntner floating coil design prevents the liquid-carrying tubes from touching the casing parts with thermal expansion. - The Güntner support profile braces the casing construction, reduces the number of base feet and protects the heat exchanger against torsion when being transported and installed. Safe solder connections The bushings for the collectors are produced at Güntner with a very special procedure. This involves a large area and safe solder connection with the contact tubes. Fans Güntner only uses leading manufacturer fans. Motor, fan blade, duct and protection grill form an optimum air and sound unit. The variable controlled external rotor motors are extremely long-life, maintenance-free and balanced on two levels. With series connected systems a high number of fans ensures failure-safe operation. On request, the fans are wired and fitted on-site with repair switches.

The installation point, including protection grill, fan ducts and heat exchangers, is measured here. 32 Güntner Competence Air Conditioning 33 Easy transport and installation After production all Güntner units are packed appropriately for transport to the installation site. Once there they can be easily transported with a crane and forklift, because we have thought out the very smallest details: Crane lugs: The heat exchangers are equipped with factory mounted crane lugs. With the GFD units, we developed a special transport mechanism for crane transport that makes it possible to transport the unit without using a cross beam. Container: For container transport we produce units that fit precisely into a sea cargo container. Certain minimum distances and set-up heights must be considered according to the site and combination of units.
