ATLANTA POST SOCIETY OF AMERICAN MILITARY ENGINEERS THE AL ROWE AND SY LIEBMANN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM SUMMARY (2015-2016 Academic Year) Purpose: To encourage and assist qualified students who wish to pursue a college education in engineering, architecture, science, or math, and related degrees so that they, in turn, might further the goals and exemplify the ideals of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). Terms: Two scholarships in the amount of $5,000 will be awarded and must be used during the current academic year. One scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior, and one scholarship will be awarded to a current college student or post-graduate student. All scholarship recipients will be assigned a mentor from the Atlanta Post membership. Eligibility Requirements: Successful applicants must: 1. Meet at least one of the following: a. Active member/sustaining firm member of the Atlanta Post; b. Relative of an active member/sustaining firm member of the Atlanta Post; c. Student member of SAME; d. Applicant sponsored (via letter of recommendation) by an active member of the Atlanta Post. *Active member is defined as being a current member (at the time of the application) who has held a membership for one continuous year or more. 2. Be accepted by or attending an accredited college or university. 3. Be a high school senior planning to enroll in, a college student enrolled in, or a postgraduate student enrolled in, an engineering, architecture, science, math, or related curriculum at an accredited college or university. Enrollment must be planned for the Fall of the current school year. 4. Have a minimum of a B average (3.0 on 4.0 scale), whether in college or high school.
5. Provide a completed application to include: minimum of two letters of recommendation from high school or college advisor, academic instructors or immediate supervisor, copy of high school or college transcript, copy of SAT/ACT or GRE results, and a 2 page, double-spaced, 12 point font essay that discusses why you should be a recipient of a SAME scholarship. Be available either in person or via phone for an interview with the SAME Atlanta Post Scholarship Selection Committee. Selection will be based on the following criteria: 1. Graduating high school applicants: SAT or ACT test results 2. Post-Graduates: GRE test results 3. Grade point average 4. Recommendation by advisor and/or instructor 5. Required major in engineering, architecture, science, math, or related degrees 6. Evidence of serious scholastic aptitude, good character, leadership qualities, and well-rounded personal development 7. Financial Need 8.
