Section 2 - FFMA syllabus training / system FFMA s mixed martial arts system is based on using various principles and techniques derived from many forms of martial arts as noted below. We apply an open minded coaching philosophy based on the concept that there is no exact science of combat. We evaluate and practice techniques based on our research and experience, with the emphasis being, that the art is in the effectiveness of the technique. Why do Martial Arts training? After a tough day in today's frenetic world, training in a friendly, motivational environment, hitting the bag and pads, wrestling and doing specific combat conditioning exercises is an enjoyable way of getting rid of our emotional waste. Additionally, you will meet new friends & learn valuable self protection skills which will improve your confidence. FFMA Training System Overview We bring together the old and new by promoting the old traditional martial arts core values of respect and using new hybrid training methods. We use a variety of principles and techniques derived from the following martial arts. Muay Thai & Kickboxing Boxing BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) & other wrestling disciplines Karate & other traditional systems MMA; we integrate John B Will's BJJ & Alpha MMA syllabus together with our own system to provide a complete & effective mixed martial arts package. The class sessions are based on the effectiveness of mixed martial arts, providing practical workouts that incorporate kinetic and cardiovascular body movements using a variety of combat conditioning exercises. Students train at their own pace/level and are guided by our coaches to ensure they are training correctly. We offer a beginners and advanced class for each session, providing a structured training platform for students to gradually progress to a high technical level. There are many benefits gained from training at FFMA such as: learning martial arts, improved fitness, strength and endurance and development of self protection skills increasing your self confidence. These rules are also essential for a safe training environment for all students and coaches. Pay attention to the Coach at all times and not to other distractions. Show respect to the Coaches and fellow students at all times. Always aim to attend the class on time. Students should remove all jewellery before class, for their own safety & that of others. It is advisable to wear comfortable clothing which will not restrict movement for MMA and Kickboxing/Conditioning classes. For the BJJ sessions, students are advised to wear a Gi. Section eight (8) of this information pack, or our website provides details on further training equipment and clothing which students will need. For hygiene & the comfort of all training clothing/equipment must be washed &/or clean. Do not use the club equipment unless authorized by a Coach. Please do not borrow other student s equipment without his/her permission. Students must always keep their finger and toenails clipped and clean for their own safety and that of their training partners. No chewing gum during training or in the gym Shoes must be removed before stepping on to the mats. Only clean wrestling shoes are permitted on the mats. Never lose your temper in training, especially in self defence, or free sparring. Refrain from impetuous and violent behavior, & do not spar without the permission of the Coaches. When sparring the most skilled and/or higher grade student must work at the level of the less skilled/lower grade student. Good sporting spirit & behaviour is important; the skills you learn can cause injury. Always treat your training partner with courtesy & aim to exercise control and accuracy at all times. Sparring is not mandatory. If you do not wish to spar, please inform one of the Coaches and they will arrange alternative drills for you during sparring sessions. Please keep non-class related conversations with fellow students for before or after class. Keep talking to a minimum during rest periods and please do not talk at all while the class is in session unless you have as specific question to ask the Coach. Refrain from any behavior which constitutes as bullying. If you have any complaints please report your problems to any of the Coaches If in the unlikely event you injure yourself you will be taken care of by one the club s qualified first aiders. Simply notify your training partner to let the Coach know you have an injury, or attract the attention of the Coaches yourself. Never leave litter. For this reason we don t allow any food into the training hall except a bottle of water. Take all empty bottles with you & don t leave anything behind at the end of class Clothing is to be left in the changing rooms and not brought into the gym (only training equipment such as gloves / gum shields etc & water bottles are allowed into the training hall).

Section 8 FFMA History After doing some martial arts research Tony Terranova found that students often lost interest in their training system which resulted in a lack of motivation to continue training. Inspired by Peter Consterdine's training day DVD's and Master Sken's style of Muay Thai, he decided to develop a system which incorporated practical skills and fulfilled some of the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of modern day living. He then developed his own training syllabus and Fighting Fit Martial Arts was started in January 2007 and affiliated to the British Combat Association. Tony gives much credit to his daughter Emma and coach Joe Viall who have coached and supported the club from the first week it started. Mark Collett joined after the club was established and today plays a major role as a coach and co-owner of the business. You can visit Tony's article section on our website for more background information. Tony & Mark feel privileged to have the following martial artists as their mentors: Peter Consterdine, Geoff Thompson, Master Sken and John B Will.
