General description of the degree program Name Qualification awarded: Level of qualification Qualification requirements and regulations Key learning outcomes Profile of the program Occupational profiles of graduates Program duration: Pre-study work experience: Electrical Engineering Industrial Automation Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Electrical Engineering Industrial Automation first-cycle n/a Graduates have the knowledge and understanding that enables them to carry out work as an industrial automation engineer in an independent manner, and can solve problems in an innovative manner. They are able to gather and interpret relevant data to form judgement and to familiarize themselves with so far unknown areas of work. They can communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions to both specialist and nonspecialist audiences. The focal point of this degree program is a basis of electrical engineering followed by intensive education in the area of automation technology in production processes, e.g. in automotive engineering, food production, or pharmaceuticals. Studies are divided into two semesters of foundation courses, which provide solid understanding in the areas of mathematics, electrical engineering, information systems, electronic systems, and basics of industrial automation, and five semesters of advanced and specialized courses. In addition, the students are taught key qualifications such as social skills, the ability to work in a team, and academic research and writing. Many laboratory courses serve to consolidate the knowledge. As is the case with all Bachelor s programs at HsKA, the program has a strong labor market orientation. As a compulsory component of the program a one-semester work placement in the 5 th semester allows students to apply in industry what they have learned up to this stage. Industrial Automation is required for the automation of production and test processes, e.g. in automotive production. Electrical Engineering Industrial Automation graduates can choose from a wide variety of jobs. They usually work designing, developing and realizing technical facilities for the automation of production processes, or produce sensors for engine control units. Graduates work in the areas of mechanical engineering, automotive industry, power supply industry, aerospace industry, medical engineering, microsystems technology, in multimedia companies or in mobile telecommunications companies. They also work as free-lance engineers, consultants, editors of professional journals or academic assistants in higher education or research institutions. 7 semesters or 7x30 = 210 ECTS 2 months to get familiar with machining procedures of materials used in electrical engineering as well as the basics on technical documentation. Students who have no pre-study work experience at the time of application must do this until the end of the second semester. Specific admission requirements General or subject specific university entrance qualification or comparable entrance qualification; two-month pre-study work experience. For students from abroad: proof of satisfactory knowledge of German. Ranking is created using weighted grades for the university entrance qualification (factor 2) and individual subjects of mathematics (factor 2), German or corresponding language for a foreign entrance qualification (factor 1), English (factor 1), Physics / Electrical Engineering (factor 2). A

bonus point is given for a vocational qualification in a related profession. Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning Traineeship semester: Start of program: Application deadline: Language of instruction: Mode of study The applicant should: Access to further studies: Examination regulations, assessment and grading Final examination: Graduation requirements Program director ECTS Departmental Coordinator: Vocational training at Meister level or acquired at a school for further vocational training, together with an interview at HsKA, will be recognized as equivalent to university entrance qualification. 2-year vocational training followed by 3-year occupation in a related job, together with an interview at HsKA and an eligibility exam at Konstanz University of Applied Sciences, will be recognized as equivalent to university entrance qualification. Results achieved in theory or practical courses of an academic degree program at a recognized higher education institution can be transferred to HsKA according to ECTS recognition procedures upon express request, if the Board of Examiners acknowledges these results to be comparable in terms of level, subject content and extent. Prior learning must be in a similar or related subject. 5th semester is internship semester in summer and winter semester 15 January (summer semester) 15 July (winter semester) German Full-time What assets should you bring to the table in order to be accepted into the degree program Electrical Engineering Industrial Automation? First of all, you should of course be interested in technology. Secondly, you should have a good GPA (grade point average) for the subjects Mathematics, German, English, Physics or Electrical Engineering, as the grades for these subjects in particular are taken into account. Master s For information about the courses as well as the study and examination credits required for successful completion of studies, see annex (pages 5-10). The annex also shows the weight of the various examinations towards the final grade. All parts which count towards a subject examination must be concluded successfully with a mark no less than 4.0 each. Bachelor s thesis and colloquium The student must have attained the pre-examination credits as laid down in the table below. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Gentner Prof. Dr.-Ing. Franz Quint
