Setting up Mobile Broadband with the Connection Manager & GPS functionality with the MobileDemand xtablet T7000 Thank you for purchasing your MobileDemand xtablet T7000 with the mobile broadband GOBI module. To use mobile broadband network connections with your MobileDemand xtablet T7000, you use the Connection Manager application. The Connection Manager is already installed on your computer; the icon is on your desktop. Here is what the application icon looks like. You must set up the Connection Manager before you can use your mobile broadband network. To do so, perform the following steps: Step 1: Start the Connection Manager. Step 2: Set up the Connection Manager for the carrier you will be using. Step 3: Configure your MEID with the Verizon carrier business account Step 4: Run the Automatic Activation Wizard Step 5: Inserting your SIMM card if you use AT&T or T-Mobile as your mobile broadband carrier. Step 6: Set up xtablet GPS. You do not need a mobile broadband account to use the MobileDemand xtablet's GPS feature.
Step One: Start the Connection Manager You start the Connection Manager from the icon on the Desktop of Windows. To start the Connection Manager 1. Tap Start > Desktop AirCard Watcher The Connection Manager window opens and the Windows notification area, for example: icon appear in the Note: If you do not see the icon, click the arrow next to the notification area to view additional icons. Step Two: Setup the Connection Manager for the carrier you will be using. Let s use Verizon Carrier as the example carrier. In the Air Card Watcher application, click on the wrench to get to the Options menu.
Click on Firmware option at the bottom. Verify that Verizon is your selection, and click Apply and OK. The Radio controller will be automatically re-programmed for Verizon. HEY WAIT, something isn t right here. If your tablet is in Airplane Mode and says the Radio is off. This is a setting that was on our first year GOBI release models. There is a BIOS switch that toggles between WiFi wireless and WWAN GOBI 3G. Follow these steps to turn on the GOBI Radio. Press Fn key and the number 5 at the same time. You will see this on the screen a pop up. In this instance, it is showing that the WLAN is activated and not the 3G WWAN mode. Press the Fn and the number 5 again to enable the 3G WWAN GOBI mode. Now we see that the 3G GOBI WWAN mode is activated.
To get the radio out of Airplane Mode, you will need to press the Fn & 5 key until the 3G is highlighted in blue. Step Three: Configure your MEID with Verizon Verizon will be used in this example Contact Verizon or your company Verizon account manager. Have them add the MEID of the device to your business account. You can get that number from behind Battery Bay 2, or from the AirCard Watcher program. Start up the xtablet T7000 Start the AirCard Watcher application on the desktop. Click on the Options Box in the top right hand corner of the application near the windows minimize button. When that menu drops down, select About, and Select Device. This will give you the MEID number. Once the number has been setup in your business account, or with Verizon, you are now ready to do the one-time activation on the device. After doing this, you will be able to connect to Verizon.
Step Four: Run the Automatic Activation Wizard Click on the Options Box in the top right hand corner of the application near the windows minimize button. When that menu drops down, select Automatic Activation. When the application starts, you will be prompted to see if you want to automatically or manually activate. Select Automatically The program will go through different stages of activation.
The program will go through different stages of activation. Then return to the main screen. c When finished, you can now connect to the carrier. You can now press the "Connect" button You should connect and show this screen. The Connection Manager will show Disconnect
You will also get a notice in the lower right by the clock that you are connected. Step Five: Inserting your SIMM card from your carrier For some carriers it is required that you insert a SIMM card. You must make sure that you have a DATA ONLY SIMM, and not a Voice/Data SIMM. Follow these instructions. DO NOT REMOVE the 3G Antenna Cover before reading this. The 3G Antenna Cover cannot be completely detached, there is an antenna wire attached to the cover. When removing the lid to install a SIM card for AT&T or T-Mobile, make sure you only lift the cover far enough to insert the SIM card as shown below. 1. Loosen the 4 screws holding the top 3G Antenna Cover on the tablet. 2. Gently loosen the cover, and tilt upward. 3. Insert the SIM card as shown, press down to lock in. 4. Replace 3G Antenna Cover. Failure to follow these guidelines may void the warranty.
Quick Tip: How to switch between broadband carriers using the Connection Manager program 1. In the Connection Manager Window, click on the icon of the wrench. 2. Click on Firmware option at the bottom. You will see the current Network that is configured.
3. Click on the dropdown list and select your carrier from the list of carriers. Note: The T-Mobile that is shown is for T-Mobile in Germany, and will not work in the states. For T-bile you should choose Generic UMTS for T-Mobile in the USA. 4. Hit OK. 5. The firmware will be updated. 6. You are now ready to run the Automatic Activation and then connect with your carrier.
7. Now you can connect with T-Mobile as long as you have a Data SIM for T-Mobile installed in the tablet. If you need to install a SIM card in this tablet, please see the 3G Primer documentation included with the unit, or call MobileDemand Technical Support at 877-784-4338 Step 4: Set GPS Connection Manager for GPS The mobile broadband module comes with GPS capabilities which you can use with your preferred GPS applications. For example, navigation or mapping software. You enable and start GPS from the Connection Manager. Note: The GPS functionality of the xtablet T7000 is utilizing the Ublox-5 GPS module inside the xtablet T7000, and not the GPS functionality of the GOBI 3000 module. To set up GPS: 1. Verify you have a GPS software on your xtablet T7000 a. Verify that you have a u-center icon on your desktop b. If you have this icon, you have the GPS module. 2. Verify the Ublox Virtual COM port is listed in the Device Manager
a. Right click on the Computer Icon, and click Manage b. Once in Device Manager, click on Ports (COM & LPT) c. Verify that you have an entry for the u-blox 5 GPS and GALILEO Receiver (COM X) d. Note the COM Port number. 3. Start the u-center application from the desktop
a. When the program opens it will communicate with the GPS module, and list the COM port that it is communicating on at the bottom of the screen. Here is a partial screen shot of that program.
b. If it does not find the GPS, you can check the green button shown below to choose the COM port. By clicking this green button, you can choose your COM port. 4. Install a GPS enabled program or your companies GPS program a. Our GPS will work with your GPS enabled program like Microsoft MAP, Google Maps,etc.
