6 The following opening screen will appear: Use the supplied SAS 29 pin cables to connect HDD to the SAS connectors on the top panel of the unit (connect up to up to 8 HDD, SAS/SATA). This is a very important step - connecting the 29 pin SAS/SATA cables to the unit Female socket is crucial to the proper operation of the unit. If the user experiences slow speeds on the drive erase operation, he should check all cables connection. Normal Operation - connection of the SAS cable: The 29 pin SAS/SATA cable - Male connector should plug into the unit s Female socket only one time, at the time of assembly of the unit. The user should use the Female side of the cable to connect or disconnect HDD. How to insert the 29 pin male cable to the unit: 6 MediaClone, Inc. 6914 Canby Ave, Unit 111, Reseda, CA 91335 T: 818-654-6286
7 Without using any force, the user should insert and plug the connector into the Female socket on the top panel of the unit. The user needs to make sure the connector is straight up and is horizontal and even from both sides of the connector. The user should turn the 2 thumbs screws evenly until the connector is totally flush with the metal unit. For the best performance- multi sessions: User should run each hard drive as a separate session/run. After the Scan for HDD, user should select one hard drive from the 8 detected hard drive, and press on the run icon. That will start erase operation for this hard drive. The user than should press the back green arrow and now he should select the next HDD from the list and press run, and so on. That will create 8 separate runs/sessions that will give the user the best performances. Security Erase Mode is not supported by USB storage devices and not by SAS Hard Disk drives. It is only supported by SATA Hard Disk Drives and SSD. (Bad sector handling has not affect in this mode) HPA/DCO is not supported by USB storage devices protocols. USB native devices are not set with HPA/DCO. SATA drives can be set with HPA/DCO. If user is attempting to use SATA to USB3.0 adapters to erase SATA drives, be careful not to use SATA drives that are set with HPA/DCO. (HPA/DCO enable in setting has no meaning/effect; the SuperWiper application will erase the data only from the area that set by DCO and HPA and not the full native capacity of the drive) The SuperWiper application plays a critical role in insuring the complete eraser of data -Setting. If HPA/DCO is not set enable and it may leave data in un-allocated spaces of the drives. Bad Sector handling: Company policies calling for the eraser of data and later disposal or reuse of drives may not realize complete eraser of data, particularly in skip bad sector settings or situations with skip bad blocks, 7 MediaClone, Inc. 6914 Canby Ave, Unit 111, Reseda, CA 91335 T: 818-654-6286
8 all of which may result on some data remaining on the drive. HPA/DCO: Hard Disk Drive that set with HPA/DCO area and they are not in full native capacity. User must verify before start operation that the HPA/DCO settings are enable which will erase data from the entire capacity of the drive. HPA/DCO is NOT supported by USB native storage devices. USB storage devices: Do not boot the SuperWiper unit when USB storage devices already connected to the unit. If user use USB3.0 to SATA adapter: o Connect the SATA hard disk drive or SSD drive to the adapter and then plug them together to the unit. (otherwise the adapter will appear as one of the detected device) o Use USB3.0 to SATA adapter and drive caddies that supports pass-through commands in order to display the serial number of the storage devices o SATA drives or the USB3.0 need to power up externally. o SSD drive can be powered by the USB bus. o Use a short USB3.0 cable (Max 12 ) o USB protocols do not support HPA/DCO commands. Do not attempt to erase SATA drives that set with HPA/DCO area with the use of USB3.0 to SATA adapters If you have any difficulties connecting or operating the unit, please do not hesitate to email us at info@media-clone.com Thank you for your business. 8 MediaClone, Inc. 6914 Canby Ave, Unit 111, Reseda, CA 91335 T: 818-654-6286
