Course 2: How to Import Your Data into Salesforce Introduction This is the supplemental guide for video Course #2. This guide provides additional detail to the menus and screens referenced in the videos as well as step-by-step click streams to walk you through the customizations described in the videos. Prerequisite All of the instructions in the supplements are for Salesforce instances that have Enable Improved Setup User Interface turned ON. If you do not have it turned on, the instructions may not match the steps in your Salesforce account. How to know if you have Improved Setup enabled If you see Setup link between your name and Help and Training, then you already have this feature enabled. If you do not see the Setup link as in the above example, then follow instructions below to enable it. Turning on Improved Setup Click Your Name -> Setup -> App Setup -> Customize -> User Interface Go to section at bottom called Setup Make sure there is a check in the box for Enable Improved Setup User Interface Click Save VIDEO 1 through 5 No clicks necessary. 2014 RightClix. VIDEO 6: Import Data Import Data Using Salesforce s Import Tool Click Setup -> Data Management -> Import Accounts/Contacts -> Start the Import Wizard Step 1 of 8 Step 2 of 8 Click Choose File and select the data file to import Step 3 of 8 Shows the mapping between the Contact fields in Salesforce and the columns in the data file. Make sure that the columns are mapped correctly by carefully looking at each field. Step 4 of 8 Shows more mappings. If the columns were named correctly in the data sheet, the message should say, All fields in your import file are mapped Step 8 of 8 If preparation was done correctly, you should see a message that says, Press Import Now! to submit Click Import Now! Final message indicating the import request was submitted. You can monitor the import progress by clicking Import Queue or Click Finish Typically, imports only take several minutes unless it is a very large list of data. You will receive an email from Salesforce indicating that the import has finished and if there were any errors. It also indicates how many records were imported and how many were updated.
