Rules Variation Summary for 2011 Bachelor of General Studies/Bachelor of Teaching Summary of Changes for 2011 The Bachelor of General Studies/Bachelor of Teaching has been withdrawn for new applicants from 2011. Please note: If you did not complete EDSP380 before 2011, you will now need to complete EDSP400. Implications for current Bachelor of General Studies/Bachelor of Teaching students In August 2010 the New South Wales Institute of Teachers (NSWIT) advised that it has revised the completion schedule for students admitted to the Bachelor of General Studies/Bachelor of Teaching pre-2009. Students who fall into this category now need to complete their course in accordance with the following transitional arrangements: If you commenced your candidature in 2004 you must complete the course under the pre-2009 rules by 31 December 2011. If you commenced your candidature in 2005 you must complete the course under the pre-2009 rules by 31 December 2011. If you commenced your candidature in Semester 1 2006 you must complete the course under the pre-2009 rules by 31 December 2011. If you commenced your candidature in Semester 2 2006 you must complete the course under the pre-2009 rules by 30 June 2012. If you commenced your candidature in Semester 1 or Semester 2 2007 you must complete the course under the pre-2009 rules by 30 June 2012. If you commenced your candidature in Semester 1 2008 you must complete the course under the pre-2009 rules by 31 December 2012. If you commenced your candidature in Semester 2 2008 you must complete the course under the pre-2009 rules by 30 June 2013. If you do not complete by the nominated date you will be required to transfer to the Bachelor of Education (Primary) Off-Campus Strand effective from the commencement of the next academic year. Rules Variation Summary for 2009 Bachelor of General Studies/Bachelor of Teaching Summary of Changes for 2009 The Bachelor of General Studies component has been modified as a result of new and deleted units for 2009. The structure of the Bachelor of Teaching component has changed more extensively and comprises: Core Units: 54 credit points (this has increased from 36 credit points) including 60 days of professional experience: EDCX400 Aboriginal Education EDCX401 Curriculum and the Social Context of Schooling EDEE293 Literacy Pedagogy: Focus on Reading EDEE400 Literacies in Context EDLT400 Planning for Effective Learning EDSP400 Inclusive and Special Education EDSP422 Classroom Behaviour Management EDUC403 Teaching for Cultural Diversity - NESB Students EDUC414 ICT in Education PREX901 Professional Experience 1 (20 days) PREX902 Professional Experience 2 (20 days) PREX903 Professional Experience 3 (20 days) Assessment in all of the units offered in the Bachelor of Teaching component has been adjusted to not more than 4,000 words or equivalent to accommodate the professional experience component of the course. Consequently the professional experience units are 0 credit point units. Curriculum Units: 36 credit points. There has been no change to the curriculum units. Elective Units: 6 credit points (depending upon a candidature s number of Implications for current Bachelor of General Studies/Bachelor of Teaching students The Bachelor of General Studies/Bachelor of Teaching is currently being reviewed in accordance with the New South Wales Institute of Teachers (NSWIT) requirements. It is anticipated that a new course will replace the Bachelor of General Studies/Bachelor of Teaching in 2010. In order to meet NSW Institute of Teacher requirements for primary teachers you need to complete your course in accordance with the following transitional arrangements: If you commenced your candidature in 2004 you must complete the course under the pre-2009 rules by 31 December 2010. If you commenced your candidature in 2005 you must complete the course under the pre-2009 rules by 31 December 2010. If you commenced your candidature in 2006 you must complete the course under the pre-2009 rules by 31 December 2010. If you commenced your candidature in 2007 you must complete the course under the pre-2009 rules by 31 December 2011. If you commenced your candidature in 2008 you must complete the course under the pre-2009 rules by 31 December 2012. If you do not complete by the nominated date you will be transferred to the new course effective from the commencement of the next academic year. You should not transfer to the 2009 course version of the Bachelor of General Studies/Bachelor of Teaching. Due to EDAE106 and EDAE107 not being offered in 2009, the Combined Creative Arts (EDAE106, EDAE107, EDAE210/310, EDAE312, EDAE313, EDAE315, EDAE316) Key Learning Area is only available to those students who have already completed these two units. Students will need to choose either Drama or Music if they want to pursue a Creative Arts 7
