Logistics Industry 1. Introduction Importance due to size and cross-disciplinary function Above-average growth Technological and societal innovation as well as responsibility (GNSS/GPS, web 2.0, sustainability) Logistics Education 2.8 million employees in Germany, est. 10 million in Europe (Increasingly) knowledge-intensive service industry Impact of general education trends such as outcome orientation (EQF / NQF), online and individualization (MOOC) Demographic change challenges (DO.WERT project) Sep-13 3
1. Introduction Why bother? Because the interaction of human (probability) behavior and machine (linear) action is unknown but economically highly relevant. & Human Behavior μ Machine Action Sep-13 4
1. Introduction Political & Research Objective ESCO concept (European Commission): Objective of creating a common language between education, training and business practice namely the human resource function within an industry (logistics) How to structure logistics education efficiently? Requirementsbased approach Evaluation-based approach Bottom-up approach Skills and competence reference systems, e.g. ESCO reference group concept (European Commission) Competence evaluation systems, e.g. Berufswertigkeit measurement concept Top-down approach Competence description systems as for example the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) or a suggested IQF Logistics Not theoretically and practically explored yet.
