Students completing the Nutritional Science and Diet Technology program at North Shore Community College, following the described course curricula in the agreement and in accordance with the minimum standards as set in this agreement by the Clinical Laboratory and Nutritional Sciences department at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, will be guaranteed admittance to that department at the University of Massachusetts Lowell as juniors in the Nutritional Sciences Program. Students who do not meet the aforementioned minimum standards will be considered for admission to the University of Massachusetts Lowell on a case-by-case basis. OBJECTIVES:. To encourage the transfer of qualified students from North Shore Community College to the University of Massachusetts Lowell. 2. To award academic credit for courses completed at North Shore Community College that meet the terms of the Nutritional Science and Diet Technology degree as stated in this agreement for transfer to the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Science Degree at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.. To provide effective and concise guidelines for students seeking to transfer to the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Students will have accurate and clear information regarding the transfer of their coursework from NSCC to the Bachelor s Degree at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. TERMS OF THE TRANSFER ARTICULATION AGREEMENT:. The University of Massachusetts Lowell guarantees the acceptance of students who complete the Nutritional Science and Diet Technology program at North Shore Community College with an overall GPA of.5 or higher to the Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Science. The University of Massachusetts Lowell may accept courses taken beyond the Associate Degree (60 credits); however, students are encouraged to contact the transfer advisor at the University of Massachusetts Lowell for approval.. North Shore Community College transfer students will be subject to all general education requirements of the University of Massachusetts Lowell as set forth in the University of Massachusetts Lowell catalog. Students meeting the

requirement of the MASS Transfer Block will be exempt from 5 credits of University general education requirements, but will be required to meet any specific School of Health Sciences general education requirements, not to exceed two courses. 4. This document is based upon the evaluation of course descriptions presented to the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Courses eligible for credit transfer must meet all University of Massachusetts Lowell transfer admission requirements as outlined in the Academic catalogue which can be accessed online at http://www.uml.edu/catalog/undergraduate/admissions/transfer-students.aspx. When appropriate, the requirements of the MASS Transfer Block will be honored. This agreement shall remain in effect for a period of three years from the date listed below, with the provision that the terms specified herein will continue to apply to students admitted from North Shore Community College s Nutritional Science and Diet Technology degree within one year of the expiration of the agreement. This is a designated professional course for UML Nutrition Science students. In order to transfer, students at NSCC must earn a grade of B or higher in DTC 04 Nutrition for the Life Cycle and faculty at UML must complete an exception form. 2 DTC 206 Nutritional Management of Illness will be re named to DTC 206 Introduction to Clinical Dietetics starting in the Spring of 204. Faculty at UML must complete an exception form in order for CHE 20 Organic Chemistry to transfer. Summary: Current curriculum at NSCC would transfer 58 credits towards a B.S. degree in Nutrition Science at UML. It is recommended students take Psychology and Microbiology for their elective choices. It is recommended students take the challenge exam and statistics in place of Information Technology and Applications. The NSCC students would not be able to take many of our Junior level classes because Anatomy and Physiology II and Organic Chemistry with Lab are pre requisites. Thus, it is highly recommended they take these courses at NSCC. Additionally, Pre Calculus and Intro to Sociology would transfer to the UML curriculum.
