Malaysia State Government Data Center Construction
1 Project Background Malaysia state government plans to construct new data center in 2013 to carry more government internal data communication and provide server hosting service for some specific commercial users. The new data center construction needs to consider the high availability, high redundancy, high bandwidth, and high scalability. Malaysia state government has been using Maipu devices for years. Maipu high-end switch S6800 series, access switch S3300 series, and S3200 series have been used to provide LAN solution for the government. MP1800 router series has also been used as CPE devices and been extensively deployed in different areas of the Malaysia government. To be confident of Maipu stable product lines and good technical support, through deep communication with the government project team, customer of Malaysia state government decide to use the network devices from all from Maipu. For Maipu, this chance means confidence and also challenge.
2 Project Solution 2.1 Topology In the new data center LAN, deploy two SM6800-08A switches and use the virtual stacking technology to simplify the network. In the new data center WAN, deploy a MP7500E-08 switch as the MPLS P device and SM6800 Core switch.
2.2 Description According to the Malaysia state government new data center construction plan, the LAN uses two-layer network design: access layer and core layer. In the core layer, two SM6800-08A switches and Maipu virtual stacking technology are used to simplify the network and improve the LAN bandwidth utilization rate. In the access layer, SM4300 switches, SM3300-52TP switches, and SM3300-52TC switches are used. The access switches will also use the virtual stacking technology that the LACP link aggregation is used to connected up to the core switch and down to the server in the future. In the LAN, two MSG4000-X1 high-performance firewalls are adopted to protect the data switching participated by all servers. At the Internet egress port of the new data center, another MSG4000-X1 will be adopted to ensure the access validity. The MAN adopts the MPLS protocol to interconnect with the old data center. A MP7500E serves as the P device of the new data center, a SM6800-02A as the PE device, and a MP2824 router as another PE service. The PE devices will increase with the service increasing. Detailed design principle: 1) All devices deployed in the new data center use the redundant power system and redundant upper connection configuration to improve the device and network reliability. 2) Two SM6800-08A core switches use the Maipu VST (Virtual Stacking Technology) to change the multi-ring topology brought by the traditional MSTP spanning tree networking to a simpler and clearer tree topology. This also solves the defect that the spanning tree networking bandwidth cannot be 100% utilized. 3) All data switching participated by all servers need two HA MSG4000-X1 firewalls to ensure the validity and reliability of all data accessing the server. The firewall can also track the data interaction information based on user, time, and data with powerful statistics function.
3 Case Effect Malaysia state government new data center construction has high availability, high redundancy, high bandwidth, and high scalability features to ensure the stable and efficient running of the government interval office service and external service hosting service. The success application of Maipu high-end switch and router in Malaysia government new data center shows that both Maipu products and solutions are completely qualified for the entire network construction of the enterprise data center. In addition, the high-end communication devices break the monopoly situation of the traditional manufactures and displays Malaysia state government's high recognition for Maipu communication, technology strength, product and service.
