Welcome to About the Campus Located just 4.8 kilometers from the ocean, California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), known as The Beach, offers a vibrant, diverse environment for international students. There are many reasons why more than 35,000 students choose to study at CSULB. U.S. News & World Report has ranked CSULB the fourth best public regional university in the western United States in its 2013 edition of America s Best Colleges Guide. CSULB is widely known for its high quality services, activities, and programs with award-winning faculty members, 280 fields of study, hundreds of clubs and organizations, a complete intercollegiate athletic program for women and men, and a safe, comfortable oncampus housing program. International students can expect to find a warm, welcoming environment at CSULB. From affordable tuition and accessible professors to small classes and a wealth of fields of study, CSULB will enrich your international study experience, helping you reach your educational goals in an enjoyable, unforgettable way. CSULB is home to 84 buildings, including the state-of-the-art Molecular and Life Sciences Center; specialized facilities for Engineering Technology, Nursing, Art, Industrial and Interior Design, and Music; the largest, bestequipped instructional dance facility in the United States; and the extensive University Library, which houses the Spidell Technology Center, the largest student computing facility on campus. Choosing a university, especially overseas, is not an easy job. I did a lot of homework on finding Cal State Long Beach, and it turned out to be one of the most amazing places ever. CSULB s Distinctions CSULB s Accreditation and Certification Forbes magazine listed CSULB as one of America s best undergraduate institutions. U.S. News & World Report ranked CSULB the fourth best university among all public master s universities in the western United States in its 2013 edition of America s Best Colleges Guide. The College of Business Administration was recognized by the Princeton Review as one of the Best Colleges in the West: 2013 Edition. The School of Nursing is nationally and internationally recognized for its excellence in nursing education, and is the largest program in the California State University system. The National Science Foundation ranked CSULB among the nation s top master s universities whose graduates went on to earn doctorates in science fields in the last decade. The College of Engineering places among the top 50 undergraduate engineering programs in the United States, according to the U.S. News & World Report in its 2013 edition of America s Best Colleges Guide. CSULB has been named the first most secure university campus in California by Security Magazine. CSULB is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). CSULB s College of Business Administration is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB), and it is the only California business school to have received the California Prospector Award. The College of Engineering has many programs accredited by EAC, CSAC, or TAC of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The College of Education has certificate programs that are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). CSULB is the certified overseas training provider of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs of the People s Republic of China (Certificate #100002). Conditionally admitted students will receive a letter of admission and an I-20 form from CSULB. Academic Grade Point Average (GPA) requirements vary from term to term. Housing How to Apply Campus Housing CSULB has 18 residence hall buildings on campus and an off-site residential complex, accommodating more than 2,400 students. Off-campus Housing There are many apartments and houses available for rent or lease in the Long Beach area, most within 15 minutes of campus and the ocean. Apply to CSULB online at www.csumentor.edu. It is best to apply toward the beginning of the filing date as applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
