Overview of Task Force Findings 13
Synergy for Partnership Healthcare is a National Critical Issue Increasing shortage of health care professionals Few universities teaching interprofessional practice Creating pipelines for diversity is a national and regional priority Crisis in Higher Education Call for reform in higher education More public scrutiny Need for partnerships or mergers that expand opportunity while containing costs Compatibilities Interdisciplinary education Innovative, entrepreneurial Compatibilities of mission Mix of academic programs Holistic developmental approach to the student experience 14
Compatibility of University Cultures Literature on mergers and advice of consultants: Institutional fit and compatibility of culture is most critical factor for a successful merger May be the moment where two institutions of shared purpose and compatible strategic missions, coming from positions of strength can forge a brighter future together than either can create alone 15
Advantages of Strategic Alliance for RFU Being aligned with major comprehensive university may elevate brand Increase name recognition for our programs which may result in greater leverage in building clinical rotations Opportunities for integration of the humanities, social/behavioral sciences and culture in health professions education Pipeline for first generation and under-represented minority students Increase in number of students in some programs with smaller application pool 16
Advantages of Strategic Alliance for RFU Opportunities for continuing professional education and development for our faculty and staff Expertise of DePaul in areas such as enrollment management, marketing, finance, legal counsel Realization of some economies of scale 17
Advantages of Strategic Alliance for DPU Elevate DePaul s visibility in the health science and education market Enhance and expand health and science academic offerings, capitalizing on new facilities Take advantage of trends in health professions education Strengthen the undergraduate enrollment profile and mix Increase faculty and student research opportunities 18
