How can Teachers use Lexiles Know more about a students abilities and be able to differentiate instruction. Select materials based on each student s level. (Matching reading materials with ability allows students to practice reading without becoming frustrated by the material.) Provide scaffolding support for students not ready for specific texts. Supplement workbook instruction with ability group instruction.

The reader can achieve functional comprehension of the text. The reader will be sufficiently challenged (by vocabulary and syntax) to improve. 75% is the right amount of challenge
