Executive Director Message From The Executive Director November has become the month when Philanthropy is recognized nationwide. For the last 12 years, the collaborative efforts of the Giving USA Foundation, a public service initiative of The Giving Institute, and the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, have produced the most comprehensive overview of the philanthropic landscape in the US. Many of you will be familiar with this report if not personally then through my reference to it as a benchmark and guide to our efforts in growing the Foundation. Issued in the last couple of months, I thought I would share some of the numbers with you: Americans gave $316.23 billion in 2012. This represents a 2.8 % in growth from 2011. 79% of the billions of dollars given where made by individuals through out-right gifts or bequests. We are building our relationships with more and more individuals and this is important strategically. Education received the second highest amount of the money given ($41.33 Billion) behind Religion. There s been a shift of individuals supporting local non-profits over large national or global non-profits. Helping their local communities is important. Atlanta listed in at 6th out of the top 10 metropolitan areas by total giving with $3.2 billion in gifts. By the year 2055, it is estimated that $41 Trillion will change hands as accumulated assets are passed to the next generation. Our foray into planned giving began with our Year End Giving piece sent out Oct. 31 to over 5000 constituents. Foundations gave 15%; a 4% increase over 2011. Corporations gave 6%; a 12% increase over 2011. 2012 Foundation Facts 128 Students aided through Scholarships (37) or Emergency Grants (91) 27 programs advancing the College, Programs, Faculty, and Staff An investment of more than $186,000 total With visions of our plans in 2014 on our minds for our January 16, 2014 planning meeting, I hope these numbers continue to guide our future efforts. The Chattahoochee Tech Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3, non-profit organization with a mission to support students and programs at Chattahoochee Technical College through private support. Pg.4 4
