Description: This installation guide shows the proper installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express for a Windows 7 Professional, Vista Business Edition or XP Professional Operating System and the adjustments required for its use with LiNC-NXG. 1.0 Before You Begin - Installation Requirements 1.1 Software To install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express for Windows 7 Professional, Windows XP Professional and Windows Vista Business Edition, the following requirements must be met: Windows 7 Professional, XP Professional (SP3 or higher) or Windows Vista Business Edition (SP1 or higher) must be installed on the host computer. User must have knowledge of mouse and keyboard use in the Windows 7 Professional, Windows Vista Business Edition or XP Professional environment. 1.2 Hardware Compare your computer hardware features with the chart listing the requirements for proper operation of LiNC-NXG. If you have any questions regarding the computer you will be using for this application, call PCSC Technical Support at (310) 303-3600. 2.0 Installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express 1. Download Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express via the Microsoft web site from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=e08766cefc9d-448f-9e98-fe84ad61f135&displaylang=en NOTE: It may be necessary to download the Windows Web Platform Installer. 2. Select the proper version to install on your computer (32-bit or 64-bit). The following HTML page will appear. 3. Press the Download Now button. The SQLEXPRWDT_xx file will begin downloading to your computer. NOTE: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express file is approximately 727-795mb. It is best to download via a high-speed network. 4. Your system may ask you for confirmation that you want to continue with the installation on your computer. Press the Keep button to continue with the installation. 5. Once the file has downloaded, press the SQLEXPRWED_xx file to start the installation. NOTE: For Vista Business Edition Users, the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express application must be Run as administrator. a) Select the downloaded SQLEXPRWDT_xx icon b) Right-click on the application c) Select Run as administrator Page 7 of 49
NOTE: Depending on your permission settings, Users may get the following window. Press the Run button. 6. The Extracting Files window will appear, showing that the SQL files are extracting for the installation. NOTE: If there are missing installation components, the following window may appear. If so, follow the link for the installation of the components (not shown). Page 8 of 49
NOTE: Apply all relevant Service Packs to your operating system prior to or directly after installing Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express onto your operating system. Page 9 of 49
7. A window will appear to stating that the installation process is loading. 8. The SQL Server Installation Center window will appear. Select for New Installation or add features to an existing installation. Page 10 of 49
9. The License Terms window will appear. Check the checkboxes for I accept the license terms. 10. Press the Next button. NOTE: During the installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express there may be a screen that displays a Hide Advanced Settings check box. If this checkbox displays during your installation, please un-check the checkbox. Page 11 of 49
11. The Setup Support files window will appear and will review the system for all necessary components and support items for the installation. 12. Once it is complete, press the Install button. Page 12 of 49
13. Once the Setup support files have run, a list of the support files will appear. The installation will not be able to continue until the failed support files have been installed/repaired. NOTE: A weblink may appear if the Failed text is selected. The link will lead to the proper files that are required to be installed. An internet connection may be required. Page 13 of 49
NOTE: Any necessary support files required can be downloaded and installed without requiring the cessation of the SQL 2008 R2 download. 14. Once corrected, press the Re-run button for SQL Server 2008 R2. 15. The prerequisite files will begin to install. Once completed, press the Next button. Page 14 of 49
16. The Feature Selection window will appear. In the majority of cases, the default settings will be correct. Press the Next button. Page 15 of 49
17. The Instance Configuration window will appear. Select the Default Instance radio button. Once complete, press the Next button. NOTE: Consult your IT Administration on the proper location of the root directory. Page 16 of 49
18. The Server Configuration window will appear. Select Use the same account for all SQL Server services button NOTE: Follow your IT Administrator s instructions for the proper configuration and placement of the database. 19. Press the Browse button. Page 17 of 49
20. The Select User or Group window will appear. Select the Advanced button. Page 18 of 49
21. A second Select User or Group window will expand. Press the Find Now button. Page 19 of 49
22. Scroll down and select Network Service. 23. Press the OK button. Page 20 of 49
24. The 2nd window will disappear. You should see NETWORK SERVICE in the Enter the object name to select window. Press the OK button. 25. The Select User or Group window will disappear. You will see NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE in the Account Name: text box. Press the OK button. Page 21 of 49
26. The Use the same account for all SQL Server 2008 R2 services window will disappear. You will see that the Service fields have been populated. Press the Next button. Page 22 of 49
27. The Database Engine Configuration window will appear. Select the Mixed Mode radio button and choose an IT Administrator approved password. NOTE: The Authentication Mode must be set to Mixed Mode or LiNC-NXG will not function correctly. NOTE: Follow your IT Administrator s instructions for the specific configuration of the database within the Account Provisioning, Data Directories and FILESTREAM tabs. Page 23 of 49
28. Enter the password for the system administrator (sa) account. 29. Once complete, press the Next button. (this screen may not appear) 30. The Reporting Services Configuration window will appear. Choose the Install the native mode default configuration radio button. 31. Press the Next button. Page 24 of 49
32. The Error Reporting window will appear. Consult your IT Administrator on your company s disclosure and error reporting policies. Once complete, press the Next button. Page 25 of 49

Once the Installation has finished, the Complete window will appear. Press the Close button. Proceed to Section 2.2 for the proper modification of the database. Page 27 of 49
2.2 Configuring SQL Server Network Configuration 2.2.1 Assignment of TCP/IP Ports 1. Open the SQL Server Configuration Manager via its Windows icon or Start/ All Programs/ Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2/ Configuration Tools/ SQL Server Configuration Manager. NOTE: Depending on your Windows Permission settings, a User Account Control window may display. Press the Allow button to proceed. 2. Expand SQL Server Network Configuration from the decision tree and select Protocols for MSSQLSERVER. Page 28 of 49
3. Double-click on TCP/IP to open the TCP/IP Properties window. Page 29 of 49
4. Within the TCP/IP Properties window, within the Enabled row, pull the dropdown to select Yes. Page 30 of 49
5. Select the IP Addresses tab. Page 31 of 49
6. Scroll down to IPALL. Page 32 of 49
7. Within the IPAll, change TCP Ports to 1433. 8. Press the Apply button to save the configuration. NOTE: TCP Dynamic Ports is automatically assigned randomly during installation. 9. A Warning window will open, explaining that the services need to be stopped and restarted. Press the OK button. Page 33 of 49
10. Press the Ok button on the TCP/IP Properties window to close. NOTE: It will be necessary to reboot the program for the new TCP IP settings to take effect. Page 34 of 49
2.2.2 Enabling Named Pipes 1. Open the SQL Server Configuration Manager via Start/ All Programs/ Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2/ Configuration Tools/ SQL Server Configuration Manager. 2. Expand SQL Server Network Configuration from the decision tree and select Protocols for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express. Page 35 of 49
3. Double-click on Named Pipes to open the Named Pipes Properties window. Page 36 of 49
4. Within the Named Pipes Properties window, within the Enabled row, pull the dropdown to select Yes. 5. 6. Press the Apply button to save the configuration. NOTE: TCP Dynamic Ports is automatically assigned randomly during installation. Page 37 of 49

2.3 Restarting SQL Server 2008 Services 1. Open the SQL Server Configuration Manager via its Windows icon or Start/ All Programs/ Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2/ Configuration Tools/ SQL Server Configuration Manager. 2. Double click on SQL Server 2008 Services within the Decision tree. 3. Double click on SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER). Page 39 of 49
4. In the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) Properties window, press the Stop button. 5. The SQL Server Configuration Manager progress screen will display Page 40 of 49
6. Press the Start button to restart services 7. The SQL Server Configuration Manager progress bar will return. 8. Press the OK button to close SQL Server Browser Properties window. 9. Select File from the pull-down menu and then Exit to close SQL Server Configuration Manager screen. 10. Close the SQL Server Installation Center window. NOTE: The Restart Button will both Stop and Restart SQL Server in one action. Page 41 of 49
3.0 Creating a New Database NOTE: It is only necessary to create a new database if you want to store the data and log files in a specific location, otherwise they will be located in the default SQL folder. 1. From the Start Menu, open the SQL 2008 Management Studio from the Start/ All Programs/ Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2/ SQL Server Management Studio. 2. The Connect to Server window will appear. If you are using Windows Authentication, press the Connect button. NOTE: If you are using SQL Server Authentication, add in your User name and Password, then press the Connect button. Page 42 of 49
3. SQL Server Management Studio will open. Note: You may see the screen below the first time that you open the SQL Server Management Studio. Page 43 of 49
4. Right -click on Database. 5. From the drop-down menu, select New Database. Page 44 of 49
3.1 General Page 6. Type the preferred database name in the Name field. For our example, we will use LiNCNXG as our database name. Page 45 of 49
3.2 Data Files Path 7. In the Path field, find the location of the drive where the Data will be stored. NOTE: The locations listed in the Path fields are for example only. 8. If it is preferable to use the SQL default for your Data Files Path, do not change. If there is an alternate location to use for the Path, press the Browse button to determine the proper location. 3.3 Transaction Log Path 9. In the Path field, find the location of the drive where the Transaction logs files will be stored. 10. If it is preferable to use the SQL default for your Transaction Log Path, do not change. If there is an alternate location to use for the Path, press the Browse button to determine the proper location. NOTE: The locations listed in the Path fields are for example only. Page 47 of 49
11. Press the OK button to create the database. NOTE: You have now completed the installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express. Please proceed with the installation of the LiNC-NXG software. Page 48 of 49
