The objective is to train junior researchers with the knowledge and skills to carry out research in academic and non-academic research institutes, in industries and to work at managing levels in public institutions and enterprises. PhD programs have a minimum duration of 3 years (180 ECTS credits); the student s work, in the form of a doctoral thesis is evaluated by both external and internal evaluators. enrollment in PhD programs on a competitive basis: a call is published (generally in July-August) for each PhD program on the website of each University and on the Euraxess website (http://ec.europa.eu/euraxess/index.cfm/ jobs/index). applicants have to pass a written and oral examination. To this end, a certificate ( Dichiarazione di valore ) can be obtained by Italian Embassies 1
