Requirements To install BillQuick HR (Human Resource) and get it up and running, be sure your computer systems meet or exceed the requirements below. System Requirements Each personal computer on which BillQuick HR will be installed should meet or exceed the following requirements: 2.0 GHZ Intel Pentium IV-class processor or faster 512 MB RAM (1 GB recommended) 300 MB or more of hard disk space required, plus 100 MB additional hard disk space required for installation. (400 MB total) DVD drive for installation from a DVD (BillQuick HR can also be downloaded from www.billquick.com) 1024 x 768 resolution or more Be sure your network server contains sufficient memory and other resources for efficient, high speed operation. BillQuick HR can be installed with any of the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows XP Home and Professional Microsoft Windows Vista (All flavors) Microsoft Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2008 Server Be sure to install the latest Windows service packs and critical updates. Check the Microsoft web site for the latest updates to Windows,.Net Framework, and Data Access Components. Some versions of Windows include an automatic update option. If you wish to import BillQuick data, such as employees, time entries, etc into BillQuick HR, then BillQuick (Lite, Basic, Pro or Enterprise edition) has to be installed on the computer. Also, to access BillQuick Online or take advantage of Automatic Updates, you will need the following: Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or later (for accessing BillQuick Online) An Internet connection with a 28.8Kb or faster modem, DSL, cable modem, or other broadband connection (for accessing BillQuick Online and for Automatic Updates) 2008 BQE Software, Inc. Start-Up Introduction Basic start-up procedures for BillQuick HR involve a few quick steps (see Installing BillQuick HR from a DVD or Download for details): 1. Install BillQuick HR on a personal computer. 2. Create a BillQuick HR database. 3. Activate BillQuick HR. In a network environment, you will bring other users into the setup. With the above two steps complete, on each personal computer from which BillQuick HR will be run, you will: 4. Install BillQuick HR (see Installing BillQuick HR in a Network Environment below). 5. Make sure the BillQuick HR database is in a shared folder. 6. Point the user s copy of BillQuick HR to the shared BillQuick HR database. 7. Register the computer with the BillQuick HR database. The sections below describe how to complete these steps. Install BillQuick HR from a DVD or Download If you have a BillQuick DVD, proceed to the first step. If you prefer to download a copy of BillQuick HR, go to www.billquick.com and follow the steps on the Download tab. Follow the steps below to install BillQuick HR 2008 on a personal computer. The downloaded copy of BillQuick HR is in a Zip archive. You will need a Zip archiving or extraction program such as WinZip. If you do not have such a Zip program, please obtain one from a shareware web site or a software store. 1. Insert the BillQuick DVD in your drive or extract the files from the BillQuick HR zip archive into a folder. 2. BillQuick DVD: The installation program should start automatically. In the product selection screen, select BillQuick HR as the product to install. If it does not, click Windows Start, select Run from the menu, and type: X:\ BillQuickHR2008Setup.exe where X is the DVD drive letter. If you downloaded BillQuick HR 2008, navigate to the folder where you placed the extracted files. Double-click Setup.exe. 2008 BQE Software, Inc. Page 2
3. When the first BillQuick HR Installation screen appears, read the information and follow the instructions on each window. Once the installation begins, a progress bar displays. 4. When the Finished screen appears, click Finish. The installation is complete. When prompted, restart your computer to complete the installation. Install BillQuick HR in a Network Environment BillQuick HR operates in a network environment, both peer-to-peer networks and ones with network servers. In either scenario the BillQuick HR database will be located in a folder on a shared drive and BillQuick HR software will be installed on the computer of each person who will access it. Peer to Peer Network Environment To install on a peer-to-peer network: BillQuick HR also works in other network scenarios. Contact BillQuick Support for more information. 1. On the computer used by your primary BillQuick HR user (Supervisor), complete the steps for installing BillQuick HR, and activating BillQuick HR. 2. Go to the first computer from which you want a user to access BillQuick. HR. On that computer: a. Install BillQuick HR. Follow the steps in Installing BillQuick HR from a DVD or Download b. Start BillQuick HR. c. Select File, Open and navigate to the shared folder. Select your BillQuick HR database. BillQuick HR remembers the location each time the user opens BillQuick HR. 3. With the database selected, the Product Activation screen appears. Click on Already Purchased and enter the license and registration key from the email you received. You can also cut and paste the keys, if desired. Click Register. If you want to run BillQuick HR in evaluation mode, click Activate Now, and follow the steps. Read more about activation options later. 4. Repeat these steps for each computer from which users will access BillQuick HR. Network Server Environment To install BillQuick HR in a network server environment, you can: Follow the same steps as for a peer-to-peer network. You install BillQuick HR, point to the BillQuick HR database, and register the computer. Utilize Active Directory Services on a domain network. With this capability, you can push BillQuick HR to the workstations. Create BillQuick HR Database To create a BillQuick HR database the first time you start up BillQuick HR: 1. Select Create a New Company from the opening dialog. 2. Navigate to the folder where you want to store your company database. If you are in a network environment, this should be a shared folder. 3. Enter a name for the file (e.g. your company name) and click Open. 4. Go to the next section, Activate BillQuick HR. Activate BillQuick HR Primary Computer for the BillQuick HR Supervisor Continuing the start-up process following connecting to your company database, you: Enter your company name on the Company screen in BillQuick HR. It should be exactly as printed on the email you received. If desired, you can cut and paste the name from the email. Click Save. On the Licenses field (at the bottom of the Company screen), enter or cut and paste the License Key from the email. Click Save. Select File, Register from the menu. In the Registration window, enter or cut and paste the registration key from the email. Click OK. Your Supervisor is now ready to use BillQuick HR. Networked Users Computers After installing BillQuick HR on each computer and pointing it to the database in a shared folder, you will: 1. Select File Register from the menu. In the Registration window, enter or cut and paste the registration key from the email. Click OK. 2. Repeat on each computer with BillQuick HR. 2008 BQE Software, Inc. Page 4
Product Activation When BillQuick HR is in evaluation mode the Product Activation screen displays. If you do not complete the process above or BillQuick HR does not recognize the keys entered when you start-up a future session, BillQuick HR considers your software to be in evaluation mode and displays the Product Activation screen. The screen provides four options. 1. Activate Now Enter a key to continue your 30-day trial. 2. Activate Later Continue your free 7-day period of review. 3. Ready to Buy Go to BillQuick.com to purchase software licenses. 4. Already Purchased Enter your license and registration keys to fully activate BillQuick HR. Evaluate BillQuick HR If you are evaluating BillQuick HR, you may choose Activate Now or Activate Later (click the link). Activate Now asks for your company name, address, phone number and email address. You will receive an evaluation key for your company via email within 15 to 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can generate an evaluation key via the web (http://www.bqe.com/userservice/getevalkey2008.asp), or by calling BQE Software at (310) 602-4020. After the evaluation period, you must purchase a full software license and install it. Activate Later allows you to continue working with BillQuick HR during a 7-day free trial. After this period you must obtain an evaluation key or a full software license. Purchase BillQuick HR When you are ready to purchase BillQuick HR, click I Am Ready to Buy and purchase your software license from the BillQuick website. Alternatively, you can call BQE Software at (310) 602-4020 and speak with a BillQuick Account Rep. After purchasing a full software license, click Already Purchased on the Product Activation page. It asks for your company name and license and registration keys. Using the email you received, you would enter or cut-and-paste your company name. It should be exactly the same as you see in the email. (If you want to make a change, contact your BillQuick Account Rep.) Then, enter or cut-and-paste your license and registration keys.
