BASIC TRAINING FOR THE MEDICOLEGAL DEATH INVESTIGATOR Presented by: The New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator March 14-16, 2016 Albuquerque, NM

ABOUT THE NM OFFICE OF THE MEDICAL INVESTIGATOR The NM OMI Central Office is situated in Albuquerque, NM; however, jurisdiction is statewide. The office currently employs nine forensic pathologists, three consultants, 11 medicolegal death investigators working in the central office, and over 100 field deputy medical investigators working throughout the state. The office is responsible for certifying its investigators and makes this training available for persons who are interested in the discipline or currently working as death investigators and to personnel with associated agencies. COURSE DESCRIPTION This program is designed by medicolegal death investigators to familiarize the participant with the operations of a death investigation system and the role of the medicolegal death investigator. Topics presented are unique to death investigation and provide the medicolegal death investigator with a solid foundation to build on. Other agency representatives have also provided information on their roles in working with a death investigation system. COURSE OBJECTIVES The training provided will give the attendee the basic information and expertise required to participate in and conduct death scene investigations. Topics have been chosen that will cover the basics and provide some advanced training and lab work for individuals already working in the field. WHO SHOULD ATTEND Medical examiners, coroners, medicolegal death investigators, all levels of health care professionals, law enforcement personnel, forensic technicians, investigators, detectives, prosecutors, and emergency medical personnel. COURSE LOCATION AND ACCOMMODATIONS The training will be held at the Office of the Medical Investigator, 1101 Camino de Salud NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
