Microsoft Office Publisher is a Document, Greeting Card, Flyer, Certificate, Newsletter and more application. In this session, participants will see and try the Publisher Basics and then use those basics to create an Online Newsletter for Outlook Email. Objectives include Starting a Publisher File using templates Adding Images to a Publisher File Adding Text Boxes to a Publisher File Linking more than one Text Box Adding Building Blocks to a Publisher File Saving a Publisher File as PDF Sharing and Exporting a Publisher File Using an enewletter Template in Publisher Other Newsletter Options Support Contact: Barbara Chamberlain (knightb@etsu.edu; 439-8611) 1
Getting Started with Publisher Begin with a template. The template may be a blank template, a greeting card, a newsletter etc. Try to find a template that is as close as possible to the final product. Steps: Go to File and New Locate a desired template and select Create Go back to File and do a Save As and give it a name Begin adding text or images Steps to Add Images Locate the Home Tab and select it Find Pictures and then Insert Search for an image on the local computer or search online Select one or more images and they are dropped in an area to the right of the publication called the Scratch Area Drag the images needed into the Publication Steps to Add Text Boxes Locate the Home Tab and select it Find Draw a Text Box Click in the Publication and drag to create/draw the text box Start typing in the text box Steps to Link two Text Boxes IF the text is too large for the current text box, but increasing the size would distort the layout, link to another text box on another page On the next or any page, create a new text box Select the ellipses that appear in the lower corner of the text box Look for the cursor that becomes a pitcher Click in the new text box that is empty and the text will flow into that text box Adding Building Blocks Go to the Building Block Group Select the Building Block needed for this Publication Click on the Publication to add the building block or follow prompts NOTE: Select a Word, Image, Phrase, Text Box etc and Save as a reusable Building Block 2

Download the template Customize it Save the Word Template as a Document Template Close the Template Create the newsletter based on that new template by going to Word > New > (the template you saved) Open the File and Name the Issue Add articles and graphics Add Contact Information With the Newsletter open, send it to yourself by going to File > Send To and the Mail Recipient IF you are in an earlier version of Word - IF In Word 2010 and 2013 go to Mail Merge Send using email Mail Merge Steps for HTML Templates Use any HTML editor (Dreamweaver, Nvu, Seamonkey etc) Open the editor Open HTML (find the enewletter HTML document) Open Make edits Save Go to Outlook and Open new Message Go to Insert Attachment Use the Dropdown and Attach as Text You can inject HTML code into the message body via the Insert as Text option; Insert-> (Attach) File-> select the created htm-file-> press the down arrow on the Insert button-> Insert as Text http://www.msoutlook.info/question/26 Inject HTML directly into the message body. 4
