Advanced Infrastructure Solution for Cisco Data Center 3.0 Ordering Guide

ADC-APC Integrated Cisco Data Center Solutions The evolution of data centers is happening before our eyes. This is due to the increased demand for bandwidth and storage requirements, as well as, consolidation and facility usage due to energy costs. In addition, new technologies such as Storage Area Networks, Blade Servers, Fiber Channel over Ethernet and IP Convergence are driving much of the evolution. Data centers face many challenges including density, reliability, scalability and power consumption. The amount of power required for data centers has doubled in the past five years and is expected to continue to rise in the coming years. One simple way to reduce the power and cooling costs within a data center is to promote proper airflow. Strategies such as implementing hot aisles and proper cable management can go along way towards reducing these costs and creating a more energy efficient data center. ADC-APC Alliance ADC, a global leader in copper and fiber connectivity and cable management infrastructure solutions, and APC, an industry leader in critical power and cooling services, have teamed up to provide a complete solution that addresses high density connectivity and management needs, as well as, power and cooling solutions required by today s complex data center environments. ADC-APC Integrated Data Center Solutions The two companies have collaborated to simplify the data center design decisions, ease the installation process of new equipment and ensure a more efficient and economical data center. The result is an integrated solution that provides superior cable management, scalability in dense environments and industry leading power and cooling options for today s robust data center environments. Simply choose your active gear and let ADC and APC take care of the rest. Electrical distribution and industrial control Power distribution Cooling solutions IT infrastructure management Fiber and copper connectivity EF&I services Benefits of the Integrated Data Center Solutions Data Center Solutions with leading cable management improved airflow, and easy to remove power supply. ADC-APC Integrated Cisco Data Center Solutions, TrueNet/NetShelter MDS 9513 System, TrueNet/ NetShelter MDS 9509 System, TrueNet/NetShelter Catalyst 6509 System offer in-cabinet solutions, for three leading Cisco switches. All three solutions offer the following features: Best-in-class cable management for easy adds, moves and changes Improved air-flow and energy efficiency within your data center Ease of installation 1

Airflow and Cooling Management The ADC-APC Integrated Data Center Solutions offer answers to the problems of cooling, airflow and cable management within your data center. The primary goal of thermal management and power management in the data center is to maximize the performance, uptime and life expectancy of the active equipment used by your enterprise. This goal is accomplished by managing the cold air delivered to every piece of equipment such that the internal temperature of all equipment in the data center never exceeds the manufacturer s maximum allowable operating temperature. Two easy and effective approaches are designing your data center with hot aisles and cold aisles and using products and solutions that maximize cable management and airflow around equipment. The hot and cold aisle arrangement provides the most efficient means for IT equipment in a data center with traditional front-to-back airflow. Equipment with side-to-side airflow, common with many large, data center switches, presents some additional cooling challenges within an enclosure. The typical solution for side-to-side airflow switches is to direct the air to essentially convert the equipment to intake and exhaust air from the front and rear of the enclosure. The APC-ADC solution offers side airflow ducts to direct the cool air at the front of the enclosure, directly and predictably to the intake at the side of the switch. The Side Airflow Duct Kit shown below, consists of two 2U ducts that act as diverters utilizing the existing fan power of the switch. A baffle is located on the back of the switch and ducts to mitigate exhaust air from recirculating back into the air intake. The exhaust air from the equipment then exits from the rear of the rack with no opportunity to return to the equipment air intake. Proper use of blanking panels in conjunction with the APC NetShelter enclosure restricts any hot air from entering into the cold aisle. This, in essence, allows the cooling pattern for side-to-side equipment to become frontto-back thereby integrating seamlessly with other equipment in enclosures. Cisco Equipment The ADC-APC Integrated Cisco Data Center Solutions have been design around three industry leading Cisco switches, the 9509, 9513, and 6509. Simply choose your active gear and let ADC and APC take care of the rest. Cisco MDS 9509 The Cisco 9509 Series provides industry-leading availability, scalability, security, and management. The Cisco MDS 9509 allows you to deploy high-performance storage-area networks (SANs) with lowest total cost of ownership. Cisco MDS 9513 the Cisco MDS 9513 Multilayer Director elevates the standard for director-class switches. Providing industry-leading availability, scalability, security, and management, the Cisco MDS 9513 allows you to deploy high-performance SANs with an extremely low total cost of ownership. Cisco MDS 6509 The Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series of enhanced (E-Series) switches, includes a chassis with up to 1440 Gbps of system bandwidth capacity (80 Gbps/ slot), Cisco Catalyst 6500 E-Series chassis provide superior investment protection by supporting multiple generations of products on the same chassis, lowering the total cost of ownership. How to Cable the Solutions Your network equipment can only perform as well as your cables. Cabling within the data center should be deployed with proper bend radius protection, well-defined cable routing paths, room to work on connectors and cables without affecting adjacent circuits or ports, and physical protection for equipment cables. Without proper management, problems can arise and lead to increased time required to decommission hardware and bring new hardware online or inefficiencies in the cooling of the data center. The ADC-APC Integrated Data Center Solutions take the guess work out of cable management with intuitive cable routing and the ease of using a single length of patch cord throughout. ADC-APC Integrated Data Center Solutions are designed for a speedy deployment. When installing a patch cord, first connect it to the active equipment, and then connect it to the patch panel, then route the patch cord appropriately through the cable guides.
