YSR Program Only one of its kind in Canada (Founded in 1981) Offered as a joint program between Seneca College and York University Seneca courses offered at our Seneca@York campus

What do Rehabilitation Professionals Do? Assist people with physical, emotional, cognitive and/or developmental disabilities to help them: Reach an optimal level of functioning Develop independence Improve quality of life

Why YSR? It allows you to combine your B.A. and B.Sc. knowledge with practical field experience Get necessary training to be part of a professional association (like the VRA- Vocational Rehabilitation Association) Work collaboratively with health care and vocational professionals We have a high post-graduate employment rate (approximately 90%)

YSR Program Structure If you are completing a BA/BSc: BA/BSc+ YSR Courses= 4 years If you are completing an Hons. BA/Bsc: Hons BA/BSc+ YSR Courses= 5 years

Program Structure First Year of YSR Program : Equivalent of 3 Full-Year YORK courses Equivalent of 2 Full-Year SENECA courses Fieldwork (400 hours) Second Year of YSR Program: Equivalent of 2 Full-Year YORK courses Equivalent of 3 Full-Year SENECA courses Fieldwork (400 hours)

Required Courses- Year 1 of YSR SENECA YORK Intro to Rehabilitation (1 st semester) Personality (PSYC 2130 3.0) Community Resources (1 st semester) Abnormal Psychology (PSYC 3140 3.0) Physical Disabilities I (2 nd semester) Motivation (PSYC 2230 3.0) Rehabilitation Counselling (2 nd semester) Fieldwork (both semesters total 400hrs) Behaviour in Groups (PSYC 3430 3.0) Sociology of Health (SOCI 3820 6.0)

Entry Requirements Completed 60 credits (10 full year courses) including AS/PSYC 1010 6.0 towards a B.A./B.Sc. degree or OR Completed 90 credits (15 full year courses) including AS/PSYC 1010 6.0 towards an Honours B.A./B.Sc. degree.

Introduction The Vocational Rehabilitation profession evolved as an active profession at the end of WW11 VRA Canada has been the recognized professional association advancing the profession and the professionals for 45 years. VRA Canada is the recognized Gold Standard in the practice of Vocational Rehabilitation. VRA Canada currently has 2000+ members in Canada but there are many practicing without professional membership or designations.

Why This Career! By 2020, Canada will face its greatest labour shortage in modern history. 3.6 million Canadians are living with disabilities (nearly 10% of our population) 30% of persons with disabilities are not in the labour force Unemployment rates for persons with mental health disorders are three to five times higher than rates for people with no disorders The Government of Canada wants to and needs to engage this sector of the population and get them to work.
