Restoring your Data v1.1.1 There are a number of methods of restoring your data in the event of fire, theft, environmental damage, corruption, malicious attacks, human error etc, etc. The method of restore is determined by the extent of the damage to your system e.g. you may have a single corrupt file, a missing folder, or a complete restore of all your backed-up data. Obviously if the IronTree application has been removed, damaged or is missing, please contact support@irontree.co.za and we will advise you on downloading the installation.msi Single File Restore Click on the Restore Tab BELOW the Find button do not click on the Restore Button just yet You may click on the Last Backup tree to restore a file/s from your last backup, or by clicking on the + sign next to Previous Backups, the system will connect to the IronTree Server and read the archive directory, to give you a list of your previous backup dates, as shown below 1
If you click on the + sign next to the date required, and navigate to the required folder, individual files will be displayed in the right-pane once the folder in the left-pane has been highlighted You may now left-click on the individual file you wish to recover it will turn green as below Once you are comfortable with the selected file for restore, you may NOW click on the Restore Button at the top the following screen appears You can either restore to the original folder (not advisable, please see Restoring to Original Folder at the end of this document) or to a specific folder by defining that folder in the Folder bar or Browse to an existing folder On a single file restore, leave the Options as above and click on Ok The software will connect to the IronTree Server and retrieve the file as below 2
The recovered file may then be copied or moved to the relevant folder Folder Restore In order to do a complete folder restore, follow the above procedure EXCEPT you will right-click and Select Folder on the folder in the left-pane to select the folder for restore Again, follow the procedure above using the default restore options, and click Ok The software will connect to the IronTree Server and retrieve the selected folder Note : Folders will be retrieved from the local cache first, if deemed to be the latest version of the file to be recovered, thereby saving on bandwidth and click on Ok Complete Restore In the event of a complete restore of ALL files and folders that you have been backing up, you may either follow the above procedures in terms of selecting folders OR you may request a Data Centre restore performed by IronTree technicians. This method is typically for restores of data greater than 20 Gb. We will also request your key and password for this restore and then restore the data to a DVD or external hard drive. Once the data is recovered from the Server, we will either ship the data to you, or it may be collected from a pre-arranged location in Johannesburg. Complete restores are billable at standard technician rates, based on the volume of data that needs to be restored. At all times, our client s data confidentiality is paramount, however we cannot be responsible for recovered data in-transit to the customer i.e. shipping agents and couriers. The data in this form is unencrypted 3
Restoring to Original Folders v1.1.1 The reason we advise NOT to restore to the original folder is that you may inadvertently overwrite intact files in the process, or files that may be critical to the Application s recovery e.g. license or control files. Overwriting these files may in turn jeopardise the restore process and/or functionality of the application software after the restore. It is advisable to first COPY the offending folder to another part of your hard drive BEFORE the restore process is initiated. That way, license files or control files may be copied back to the restored folder, if necessary. Follow the procedures above to select the folder for restore Once your data has been restored, check if correct or select another date for restore from the above procedures, until your application s integrity has been established as correct. Once you are comfortable with the success of the restore and the application s data integrity, it is advisable to check your selections again, make sure the restored folder is still selected, and run a backup. Restore Options A full explanation on the Restore Options is available if you click on the HELP button as below By clicking on option 3.
