This booklet introduces you to the basics of getting started with Sprint and your new Samsung Trender. Get Your Device Ready Activate Your Phone Insert the Battery 1. Remove the battery cover from the back of the phone. 2. Insert the battery into the battery compartment and gently press down until it clicks into place. Then replace the battery cover. Charge the Battery 1. Plug the charger into an outlet. 2. Plug the other end of the charger into the phone s Accessories/Power Cable Jack. Switch to Spanish Menus (optional) 1. Press > Main Main > Settings > General > Language. 2. Touch Spanish. Set the Backlight Select how long the display screen remains backlit. 1. Press > Main Main > Settings > Display > Dim. 2. Touch a time setting. Note: Long backlight settings reduce the battery s talk and standby times. Turn the Phone On Press and hold to turn the phone on. Press to turn off the display and then press again to display the unlock screen. If you need to turn the phone off, press and hold. Activate Your Device If you purchased your device at a Sprint Store, it is probably activated and ready to use. If you received your device in the mail, and it is for a new Sprint account or a new line of service, your device is designed to activate automatically when you first turn it on. To confirm your activation, make a phone call. If you received your phone in the mail and it is going to be activated on an existing number on your account (you re swapping phones), you can activate on your computer online or directly on your phone. Activate on your computer: Go to sprint.com/activate and follow the instructions. Activate on your phone: Note: For security reasons, you will need your Sprint phone number and PIN to use this activation method. 1. Turn on your new phone. (Make sure the old one is turned off.) Your phone will automatically attempt Hands-Free Activation. Note: Your phone will need to complete one hands-free activation attempt before you can continue. 2. Tap Activate to override auto-activation and start the manual activation wizard. Note: If you don t override Hands-Free Activation, your phone will attempt to auto-activate five times. Wait for Retry to appear on your screen. Tap Retry and then tap Activate. 3. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the activation process. 4. After you have completed the wizard, make a phone call to confirm your activation. If your phone is still not activated, contact Sprint Customer Service at 1-888-211-4727 for assistance.

Get to Know Your Phone Navigating on Your Phone Touch. Touch and gently press icons on the screen to open menu items. (The smaller the contact point on the screen, the less pressure required. Use your fingertip rather than the pad of your finger.) Scroll. Firmly press and slide your finger up or down the screen to scroll through lists of menu items. (Scrolling on your Trender requires that you press more firmly on the screen than the gentle press required to open menu items.) Go back. Press to go back to the previous menu and to delete text you have entered on the screen. Menu Basics Phone Functions Menu Press to access the following: Speed Dial. Stores up to 8 numbers to make contacting friends and family as easy as touching the screen. Contacts Contacts. Stores up to 600 Contacts entries. Recent Recent. Lists up to 240 phone numbers or Contacts entries for calls you placed, accepted, or missed. Dialer Dialer. To place a call, simply enter a phone number using the onscreen dial pad and touch 555-555-5555 Talk (where the phone number appears) to place a call. Note: Speed Dial is the default screen that appears when you touch from a Main Functions menu screen. Main Functions Menu Press to access the following: Favs Favs. Assign shortcuts to up to 8 of your favorite or often-used functions. Main Main. Access all of the tools and functions you use everyday. Fun Fun. You ll find music, My Photos, social networking apps, and other fun features. Web Web. Surf the Internet, and find easy access to weather, news, sports and movies. Note: Favorites is the default screen that appears when you touch from a Phone Functions menu screen.

Making and Answering Calls Voicemail Make Your First Phone Call 1. Press. 2. Touch Dialer Dialer and use the onscreen dial pad to enter a phone number. 3. Touch 555-555-5555 Talk where the phone number you entered is displayed to place the call. 4. To end a call, in a single motion press and slide End Call to the right. Answer Your First Call If your screen is active, touch to answer an incoming call. (Slide your finger across the Ignore bar to send the call to your voicemail box, or Ignore with text to send the call to your voicemail box and send the caller a text message.) If your screen is locked, it will illuminate and indicate the Caller ID information on a virtual card. To answer the call, touch and slide the Answer icon. To ignore the call, touch and slide your finger across the Ignore or Ignore with Text field. Set Up Your Voicemail All unanswered calls are automatically transferred to your voicemail, even if your phone is in use or turned off. You should set up your voicemail and personal greeting as soon as your phone is activated: 1. Press and touch Dialer Dialer. 2. Press and hold and follow the system prompts to create your password and record your name and greeting. Voicemail Password (do not share): Sprint strongly recommends setting a voicemail password. Without a password, anyone who has access to your phone can access your messages and place outbound calls through your wireless account. Retrieve Your Voicemail From your phone: Using One Touch Message Access, press > Dialer Dialer and press and hold. From any other phone: 1. Dial your wireless phone number. 2. When your voicemail answers, press *. 3. Enter your passcode.

Pictures Contacts Take a Picture 1. Press and release on the side of your phone to activate camera mode. 2. Using the phone s display screen as a viewfinder, aim the camera lens at your subject. 3. Press until the shutter sounds. (The picture will automatically be saved into your phone s internal memory.) Send a Picture 1. Press and touch Main Main > Messaging. 2. Touch to compose a new picture message. 3. Select a contact entry method (Recent List, Contacts, Manual Entry). 4. Touch > Picture > My Photos to select a picture or Take new picture to attach a new picture. 5. Touch one or more thumbnail images and then touch Ok. 6. Type a message and touch Send. Add a New Contact 1. Press and touch Contacts Contacts. 2. Touch. 3. Touch Enter Name and use the keyboard to enter the name. 4. Touch Add Number and use the keypad to enter a phone number. 5. Touch the white area to the left of the number and select Mobile, Home, Work, Pager, or Others. 6. Scroll up and down the screen and touch any of the remaining fields to enter additional information. 7. Touch Done to save the entry. Find a Contact to Make a Call 1. Press and touch Contacts Contacts. 2. Scroll down through the list by sliding your finger up or down through the Contacts entries. 3. Touch the entry to display the contact s phone number(s). To dial, touch the number you would like to call.

Messaging Favorites Helpful Sprint Information Send Text Messages 1. Press and touch Main Main > Messaging. The Text screen appears by default. 2. Touch to compose a new text message. Use the keyboard to enter a recipient by choosing Recent List, Contacts or Manual Entry. 3. Type the message and touch Send to send the text message. (To delete text, touch. Hold down to delete the entire message.) Add an Application as a Favorite Function 1. Press. Favs Favs appears as the default screen. 2. Touch. 3. Touch Applications and choose from one of the following category types: Main, Fun, or Web. 4. Touch a function to add it to the Favorites page. 5. Repeat this process to add other functions such as Music, Send Message/Email, or Web Bookmarks.
