Tournament Director, Capt. Skip Smith Welcome to the inaugural tournament of THE SHOOTOUT! The Bertram/Hatteras tournament has so much history and was so much fun for so many years. Since the tournament ceased, I ve pondered on how to to resurrect it for quite some time. I had this idea to challenge the Production Boats against the Custom Boats. To be honest, I cannot believe the response I had to the concept once I brought it in front of a couple sponsors, and then again when I emailed the first few boats. The sponsors said they were in and the boats said, It s about time!. In honor of the tournament, there will be a perpetual trophy in the lobby of the Abaco Beach Resort. Each year, the winner will receive a trophy, and the boat builder will receive a trophy also. A plaque with the owner s name, the Captain s name and the boat builder will be placed on the perpetual trophy and they will all be congratulated in a one-page ad in both Marlin and In The Bite magazines. RULES 1. RULES MEETING / CAPTAIN S MEETING The Captain s Meeting will be held WEDNESDAY from 7:00-7:30 P.M. The captain/owner or designated representative must sign-in and be present at the captain s meeting for any rule changes and instructions. 2. PERMITS and LICENSES: You must have a Bahamas Fishing Permit and tournament sticker. 3. FISHING HOURS: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Boats may leave the marina at sunrise. All boats must be inside the Marina before 7:00 P.M. each evening for your fish to count. 4. Boundaries: 70 mile radius from the marina. 5. Angling & Equipment Regulations: Anglers: Up to 6 anglers permitted per boat. All anglers must be registered prior to the start of the tournament. Maximum line to be used: 130 lb. Maximum of 6 lines (with hooks) are permitted per boat at any one time. Angling Regulations: Anyone may be an angler. You may hook and hand, but only one time! All tackle must conform to the International Billfish Tournament guidelines. Go to www.skipstournaments.com 6. ACCEPTABLE FISH: The following species are eligible for competition when caught by properly registered anglers in accordance with tournament rules: Eligible for Catch & Release: blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish, and spearfish. Eligible for weigh-in at the scales: Tuna 10 lbs. minimum weight (yellowfin or blackfin only) Wahoo 10 lbs. minimum weight Mahi 10 lbs. minimum weight 7. REPORTING OF BILLFISH You must call in all hook-ups of all billfish within the first minute of hooking up. The Committee Boat will validate your catch by giving you the time reported. Then you must call again to report lost, released, or boated to the committee boat and get your time and confirmation number. Please make certain that the committee boat has confirmed your data. Each boat is required to record on the Catch & Release Form all billfish caught and released in the order that it appears on its Catch and Release video. This form will be available in your boat information packet. Be prepared to give the following information: Name of Boat Name of Angler Species of billfish DO NOT report tuna, mahi, or wahoo. Committee boat and any changes to communication frequencies will be announced at the Captain s Meeting. Please use alternate frequencies for conversations not related to the reporting of billfish. If you are hooked up after the closing of fishing, you may continue fighting the fish until you catch that fish. You will then have 2 ½ hours to get to the weigh station. No exceptions. 8. WEIGH-IN: WEIGH STATION HOURS Scales will open at 4:00 P.M. and close at 7:00 P.M. Boats must be inside the marina by 7:00 P.M. PROCEDURES: Tournament scales will be located at the weighin dock. ALL FISH MUST BE BROUGHT TO THE DOCK/SCALES BY THE BOAT FROM WHICH IT WAS CAUGHT. All fish in any of the categories must be caught and presented at the weigh-in by the officially registered and qualified angler. Tie breaker for weigh-in fish: In the event of a tie for any category of fish brought to the scales, placement is determined by time the fish was boated. Each boat must write down the time their Mahi, Tuna or Wahoo was boated on their catch card. Each boat can weigh a maximum of 1 Wahoo, 1 Mahi, and 1 Tuna per day. After the first weigh in, the first days weight will be announced. 9. TOURNAMENT AWARDS: All Tournament Awards are based on 60 registered tournament boats. (30 boats from each division). Manufacturer Award will be posted on a trophy located in the lobby of the Abaco Beach Resort. The production or custom boat builder will also receive a plaque in honor of the winning boat. Catch & Release/Biggest Fish, etc Awards will be presented as follows to the angler/boat with the most accumulated catch and release points utilizing video verification. Fun Fish Awards largest of: Tuna, Wahoo & Mahi In the event that no fish are caught in a given category above, the cash award assigned to that category will be added to the cash awards of the fish caught in the other categories in a proportional manner as determined by the Tournament Committee. Top Boat and Angler Award will be presented to the boat/angler with the most accumulated points based on the following: 400 points for released blue marlin 150 points for released white marlin and spearfish 100 points for released sailfish or for any unidentifiable billfish In case of a tie for Top Boat, placement is determined by the earliest verified reported time of a catch, released or boated. 10. CATCH & RELEASE RULES: Only billfish caught and released according to these Rules are eligible for Tournament Awards and Optional Entry cash Awards as described herein. Polygraphs may be administered at the discretion of the tournament committee. In the event of a tie in Catch and Release points, team placement is determined by the earliest verified released times.
