Overview After passing a membership vote, the following bylaw was implanted on January 1, 2011 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Program 11.4 (1) The Mandatory Continuing Professional Development program (MCPD) applies to all Licensed Members. (2) A condition of the annual renewal of the member's Licence to Practice is that a properly completed MCPD report form be submitted as part of the application for licence renewal. If the MCPD report form is not submitted, the member s Licence to Practice will not be renewed. (3) The MCPD program will begin on January 1, 2011. The first reporting period will be from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011. The first annual MCPD report will be due at the time of license renewal for the year 2012. (4) The MCPD program will be based on credit hours earned in any of the following recognized CPD activities: Courses, seminars, workshops or other training provided by academic institutions, the ACLS or other surveying or related professional associations or bodies, vendors, or any other educator, providing the content is related to the member s professional practice. Attendance at annual general meetings or regional meetings of the ACLS or other surveying or related professional associations; 1 hour of activity = 1 MCPD credit hour. Participation on Council, committees or task forces of the ACLS or other surveying or related professional associations or bodies, and other professional activities including, presentations, authored papers and research related to the member s professional practice; 2 hours of activity = 1 MCPD credit hour. (5) The Registrar and the CPD Committee will manage the program. The minimum required MCPD credit hours shall be 45 hours over the previous 3 calendar years. A licensed member who is unable to comply with the requirements of this program due to extenuating circumstances may apply to the Registrar for an exemption. If a licensed member does not meet the minimum MCPD requirements, the Registrar will contact the member to determine if there are extenuating circumstances which may give rise to an exemption. Should there be none and the member does not take reasonable steps to meet the minimum requirements, the member s Licence to Practice will not be renewed. In order to make things as easy as possible for their membership, ACLS developed the CPD Tracking System to help members input and keep track of their CPD hours. 1

The online CPD Tracking System is built into the ACLS website. To access it, please log into the ACLS website using the login boxes at the bottom of the left hand menu If you have trouble logging in, or do not know your username and password, please contact ACLS at admin@acls-aatc.ca Once you have logged in, you will see a menu added below on the left hand column that reflects your personal account. To enter any CPD activities you have been involved in, click Create content. This will bring you to the following page. 2

There are three different types of CPD activities. Read the descriptions carefully and chose the one that best suits your activity. Click on the title of the activity to enter your hours. At any time during this process, you can click on the ACLS logo to return to the home page. However, please be aware that if you do this before submitting any changes, they will be lost. 3

Courses and Seminars If the activity you are entering falls under the category of Courses and Seminar, click on the title to go the following page. All parts of the form that are marked with a red asterisk are mandatory. Fill in all fields to the best of your ability. (Title, Topic, Presenter, Sponsor, Venue and Type) Under date, enter the date that the activity began and ended. If it took place over one day or less, only enter the date under Date From date. Answer This is available online. Enter a short summary of the activity, what was learned, how it was presented etc. 4

The next portion asks your opinion on the activity you have just participated in, whether it was valuable or relevant and if you would recommend it to others. The last section is where you will enter the total number of hours that was spent on the activity and the total number of hours you will claim for participation in the activity. The duration of the activity should include things such as: travel time, preparation time, and lunch and health breaks. The claimed hours should only include the hours spent actively participating in the activity. All hours should be entered in decimal format, for example a seminar that lasted 2 hours and 20 minutes would be inputted at 2.30. The system will automatically credit the claimed hours according to the ACLS bylaws (ex. Courses and Seminars: 1 hour for 1 hour, Presentations, Papers, or Research: 1 hour for 2 hours). When you have completed the form you must click Submit in order for the information to be saved to your profile. 5

Participation If the activity you are entering falls under the category of Participation, click on the title to go the following page. According to the ACLS General Bylaws, every 2 hours of participation will be credited 1 hour of CPD. Do not factor this into your hours claimed, as the system will automatically compensate. All parts of the form that are marked with a red asterisk are mandatory. Fill in all fields to the best of your ability. (Title, Association, Name of Group, Role, Topic). Enter the dates for the duration of the activity. If it took place over one day or less, only enter the date under Date From date. 6
