Program: Systems Engineering Certificate Prerequisite: None Hardware/Software required: 1. PC or Mac Any device capable of running remote software. 2. Audio output capable PC so that you can interact with/listen to the instructor. 3. Audio input capable PC such as a microphone but not necessary. Text chat is available within the virtual environment. If necessary, conference bridge line will be available. 4. Webcam capable but not necessary. 5. Instructor will post discussion notes after each class so detailed note taking can be reduced; leaving you to focus on hands-on tasks. 6. Primary remote access will be through the weblink provided in the student portal for each student. 7. Secondary access can be done by VNC through the Chrome browser or by the VNC client. A free download of the client will be provided. Chrome browser VNC is available as a Google Chrome Extension from the Google Chrome Webstore located at https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/apps Go to the above link from Google Chrome web browser. If you don t have or use Chrome you can download it: https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/. Search VNC in the search box and choose VNC viewer for Google Chrome. Icon included here since there are other VNC clients by other companies. Simply add it as an app to Chrome and enter the connection details that will be provided to you by the registrar s office. The downloadable VNC client has more options than the Chrome app but both will get you connected to our internal systems.

Topic Structure (Hands-on labs included with each topic where applicable). Computer 1: You ll remotely log into a Windows 8 machine that is a part of the domain network. Computer 2: You ll then install a second machine with Windows 7 that is off the domain. You ll be able to work from both machines, installing, configuring and maintaining each system. You ll then be able to join this Windows 7 machine to the domain. Computer 3: You ll be able to install Windows Server 2012 along with each service in preparation for your class project. Quizzes: Quizzes given after each topic (30% of grade, while attendance/participation accounts for 20%) Class Project: Each class will be tasked with creating a fictitious company. Your job will be to complete the following tasks: (You can break into small teams to complete this project) This project will account for 50% of your grade. 1. Install Microsoft Server 2012 Install and configure roles on the server such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, WSUS, File server, Print server. 2. Create a network login script that will provide share drives, data drives, etc. (partition a drive, create data folders and share necessary folders to accommodate the above requirement). 3. Install Microsoft Exchange Server on the network. 4. Install the Windows Deployment Services Role. 5. Installing desktops computers for the employees of the company utilizing Windows Deployment Services. (This includes installing the server services, creating a boot image and install image, modifying the image to suit your company, and capturing the image. You ll then deploy this image to all employees). 6. You will install the following on employee desktop computers: Microsoft Office 2013, Java, Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash Player, network printers, Trend Antivirus software, MalwareBytes anti-malware software. You will install each as part of your image to be captured by Windows Deployment Server. 7. Install a backup software to prepare for disaster recovery 8. Group Policy Set a password policy for the organization at the domain level, set each computer to only get Windows updates from your WSUS server. Remove the option of employees manually pulling updates from Microsoft s servers. 9. Configure PFSense Firewall (Setting internal and external interface, WAN/LAN interface, Port Forwarding, Firewall rules, Firewall Aliases, VLAN 10. Configure Microsoft Hyper-V Server (including Hypervisor switch, BIOS, network card, hard drive, etc.)
