Master Instruction 08.95 MI EIO2211 A-(en) GAE953 Electrical Alarm Unit 19" with Indicator The electrical alarm unit GAE953 gives a signal when one or two set alarm values have been exceeded. Input signals from 0/4 to 20 ma, from 0 to 10 V, from 1 to 5 V, from 0/0.2 to 1 V can be processed as input variables. The device has two inputs with min. (= low) or max. (= high) monitoring, but they can also be switched together for min. and max. monitoring of a single input or of a difference between 2 inputs. The digital display on the front plate permits the control of the inputs as well as the set alarm values. FEATURES Use as double alarm unit for 1 input signal or as double alarm unit for differential signal between 2 inputs or as 2 single alarm units for 2 separate inputs 3 1/2 position LED digital display at front plate to indicate input and alarm values Input or alarm value display from channels 1 and 2 Minimum or maximum value monitoring canbeselected Normally closed or normally open circuit canbeselected Alarm value setting by means of a potentiometer at front plate Alarm indication by means of red LEDs Alarm monitoring by means of relay outputs with double contacts Line break detection Galvanic separation between input, power supply and output EMC in accordance with the latest NAMURrecommendations and international standards and laws

2 GAE953 MI EIO2211 A-(en) 1 METHOD OF OPERATION 1.1 Block diagram Power supply UC 24 V Input E1 Output Alarm value G1 U co nst U % Input E2 Output Alarm value G2 Line break monitoring B 1.2 Operation The alarm unit consists of two independent alarm value signal channels having a common power supply. The input signals are converted to the intern voltage signal by the appropriate input circuit (15). The difference of the two converted input signals are produced in the amplifier (16). Assignment of the monitoring channels to both inputs, respectively to the difference of both inputs takes place at the jumper group (17). The input value and the preset alarm value are compared in the comparator (18)with jumper (19) for the selection of the minimum and/or maximum alarm signalizing. The alarm value is set by means of the potentiometer (20), which receives its power supply from the reference voltage source (21). If the input value exceeds the set alarm the comparator changes its output voltage, the appropriate signal lamp (22) is actuated and the output relay switches over. The operating mode for the output relay (normally closed or normally open circuit) can be selected by means of the jumper (23). This transfer affects the output relay (24) with 2 isolated changeover contacts. At the front plate there is a 3 digit 7-segment display integrated containing 2 LEDs (25), on which the input and alarm values can be initiated by means of the selection switch (26) located in front. Thelinebreakdetectioncanbeallocatedtothe inputs by means of the jumper group (27). Line break monitoring takes place upon falling below the internally set sensitivity by the appropriate signal lamp as well as by the output relay (28)withisolated changeover contact. The power supply is provided by means of the built-in universal current power supply unit (29) for UC 24 V. A start up delay circuit prevents the unintentional connection of the comparators during plug-in of the device.

MI EIO2211 A-(en) GAE953 5 4 DISPLAY 4.1 Display of input and alarm values Input and alarm values are indicated by the 3-position digital display 8. When measuring ranges are exceeded this is indicated by the LEDs 9a, 9b. Input and alarm values between 0 and 99.9% are shown as follows: 4.2 Selection switch for input or alarm value display The input or alarm values E1, E2 or G1, G2 can be connected to the digital display 8 by means of switch 7. Use the pushbuttons for switching. The stamp on the switch tells which channel is chosen: E1 = input E1 1) G1 = alarm value G1 E2 = input E2 2) G2 = alarm value G2 Example: This display shows 89.5% 1) The differential input is shown at switch position E1. 2) If only input E1 is connected, E1 is also shown in switch position E2. Input values 100% are shown as follows: LED 9b (green) lights Example: This display shows 100.5% The 3-position display is extended to 3 1/2 positions in connection with the LED 9b. At a measured value >199.9% the digital display disappears. Only the decimal period can be seen. The negative digit is shown in signal ranges 4to20mA,1to5Vor0.2to 1VbytheLED9a. (-25% at 0 ma resp. 0 V) LED 9a (green) lights Example: Display corresponds to -2.5% For differential input signals the difference 0.5(E2 E1)+50% is shown. Examples: E1 = E2 shows 50% E1 = 100% and E2 = 0% shows 0% E1 = 0% and E2 = 100% shows 100% 5 Setting the alarm values To set the alarm values, the alarm unit must be connected according to the connection diagram (see page 8, item 7.1), power supply voltage and input signal to be as specified on the data label. Setthedesiredalarmvalueinaccordancewiththe digital display 8 by means of the potentiometer 5 for alarm value G1 or the potentiometer 3 for alarm value G2. To accomplish this connect the digital display 8 to the appropriate alarm value channel by means of switch 7 (see item 4.2). To check the alarm values set the input signal to the value which corresponds to the set alarm value. Connect the digital display 8 to the appropriate input by means of switch 7 (see item 4.2). When reading the alarm value the appropriate signal lamp 6 or 4 lights up and the respective output relay is actuated. Notes: It is not possible to set alarm values for negative input signals. The position of the hysteresis is always in the positive range from the switch position.

6 GAE953 MI EIO2211 A-(en) 6 SETTING THE ALARM UNIT Setting of the jumpers can only be done when there is no power supply connected. No adjustment is necessary after all settings have been performed. If the setting on the device is changed, the data label 13 must be corrected. The printed MODEL CODE relates to the factory setting. (Model Code table see Product Specifications sheet) Set the alarm unit at the jumper group 11 accessible on the topside of the device. Opening the unit is not necessary. The arrangement of jumper pos. and the respective jumper position are shown on Page 7, item 6.7. 6.1 Operation mode alarm value min. (= low) or max. (= high) monitoring The operation mode min. (MIN) or max. (MAX) monitoring is set for alarm value G1 at jumper pos. Ko7 and Ko8, for alarm value G2 at jumper pos. Ko15 und Ko14. The jumper position of Ko7 and Ko8 must be identical. This is true also for Ko15 and Ko14. 6.2 Operation mode output relay normally closed or normally open circuit The operation mode normally closed (R / N.C.) or normally open (A / N.O.) is set for alarm value G1 at jumper pos. Ko2, for alarm value G2 at jumper pos. Ko6. 6.3 Input signal Input signals with life zero (4-20mA / 0,2-1V / 1-5V) or input signals without life zero (0-20mA / 0-1V / 0-10V) are set at jumper pos. Ko13. At inputs E1 and E2 different input signal ranges can be connected, but the input signals must be identical with life zero resp. without life zero.
