University of Washington Athletics Department Internship Program
The University of Washington Department of Intercollegiate Athletics created an internship program designed to provide opportunities for aspiring athletics administrators. The athletics department offers a variety of unique internships that provide invaluable experience for graduate students seeking handson training in intercollegiate athletics. Students will gain a strong understanding of possibilities and challenges facing administrators in Division I athletics today. The following internships are available through our application process: SOCIAL MEDIA COMPLIANCE VIDEO OPERATIONS MARKETING TICKET OFFICE S.A.A.S./ STUDENT-ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT OLYMPIC SPORTS STRENGTH & CONDITIONING ATHLETIC TRAINING SPORTS OPERATIONS EVENT MANAGEMENT TYEE CLUB MEN S & WOMEN S CREW TENNIS CENTER I cannot begin to describe how much I have developed as a professional through working with UW athletics. No matter what the level of the task assigned, there is something to be learned as you are surrounded by people who love their jobs and have many years of experience in athletics. Social Media New Media and Recruitment...assists with the research and development of unique ideas surrounding new media and recruiting. Contributes to the year-round creation of web content focused on outreach and conversation with fans through social media sites for increased ingame experience. Compliance Program Assistant...assists with daily operations of UW Athletics Compliance office. Includes compliance auditing, report generation, data entry and filing. Perform special projects as assigned by compliance staff. Video Operations Production Assistant...assists with video support for athletic team practices, games and special events. Marketing Promotions Coordinator...assists with implementation of game day promotional activities, creates flyers & ads, produces game day scripts, and campus marketing. Develops and coordinates marketing plans for various sports. Provides general supervision of Junior Husky Club.
Ticket Office Ticket Sales & Customer Service...assists in all aspects of operating an intercollegiate athletic ticket office, including interacting with donors, students and the general public. In addition, assists with front line sales and customer service relations, account management, and stadium day-ofgame inventory control. Supports staff in preparation of hosting NCAA events. S.A.A.S. Student-Athlete Development...assists the Student-Athlete Academic Services staff in all facets of the DAWGS Student- Athlete Development program, including programming, career development, community outreach, events, and administrative support. Olympic Sports Operations & Administration...assists coaches and staff with day to day sports operations, providing insight into various areas of Division I athletics, including event management and alumni & donor functions. Administrative duties include preparation of large mailings, graphic design and extensive use of dedicated recruiting database software.
Strength & Conditioning Assistant...assists sports performance staff in the day to day physical development of athletic strength, speed and conditioning in UW athletes. Aids in the incorporation of sport specific, scientifically grounded training methods and principals in a year-round training cycle. *may require additional qualifications Athletic Training Sports Medicine Assistant...assists with injury evaluation, management and rehabilitation, working with Certified Athletic Trainers and Team Physicians to provide health care to all UW athletes. *may require additional qualifications. Sports Operations Championships & Special Events...assists with the planning, organization, preparation and management of Pac-12 and NCAA events. Duties include working with hospitality, ordering equipment, making travel reservations and coordinating volunteers for events. This internship has allowed me to gain a realistic collegiate experience in a variety of athletic areas. I have been able to apply so many of the materials that I gained from the classroom into my everyday work in the field; enhance my resume with tangible experiences and continuously network with industry leaders. -Angie McKinnell, S.A.A.S Graduate Assistant
Event Management Guest Services assists with scheduling of practices, games, meetings, special events and facility rentals. Creates logistics, manages payroll database and schedules event staff for all ICA events. Tyee Club Fundraising Operator...assists in the day to day fundraising operations including annual giving and major gifts. Provides exposure to fundraising initiatives, donor prospecting, cultivation, stewardship and capital campaigns. Working as an intern for UW has allowed me access to observe what roles are needed to produce a successful intercollegiate athletic event. I was impressed to find a mutual understanding among leaders and workers as to what was needed in order to be successful. This allowed me to feel like I was a part of a team working toward a common goal, something I had hoped to find working in an ICA office. Men s & Women s Crew Program Assistant...assists in the administrative support of coaches and staff in day to day team operations. Organizes mailings and facilitates donor and alumni events. Maintains recruiting and alumni databases. Tennis Center Tournament & Match Operations...assists with fundraising, team tournament events, front desk registration and staff management. Tennis match operations includes volunteer coordination, logistic planning for officials, and day of game preparations.
