Document History Version Date Change log 1.0 2009/8/20 Completed 1. General Business group, despite the challenges that has faced, seems to keep track to their current project plan. The members of this group really seem to work hard, judging from the amount of documents uploaded to their web site and without neglecting the fact that this is a two member team. However, our overall impression about the Business group is that difficult days are about to come. Information gathering phase as it is mentioned in their project plan seems to end with after midterm presentation, consequently documents more targeted to the Video Conferencing and Network team are expected. It is true that documents regarding Video Conferencing team have been uploaded to their website; however a more close description about a proper business model for that team is expected. Unfortunately, documents regarding business aspects of the Network team have not been uploaded till this moment. Documents for Network team are also expected. Business group seems to be aware for this lack of documentation and it is mentioning solutions in their progress reports. Team spirit of business group seems to be in a good level despite the problems that they have to face such as limited human resources, creating business plan design for two teams and surpassing several obstacles appeared during the last two months regarding technical equipment and lack of information about Network Operation Center (NOC). 2. Goals and Objectives According to the project plan of the Business group their goals are the followings: 1. A business plan for a Network Operation Center (NOC). 2. A business plan for a system integration unit or company that can build and maintain the communication systems involved on a service a contact basis. 3. We will explore the business opportunities for the open source video conferencing solution. [1] Regarding the above goals we can mention that judging through their deliverables. Business group needs to put more effort on pursuing the first two goals. For these two goals, there is a lack of documentation that may reveal their research in the area of NOC or the area of creating a small company. Regarding their third goal, Business group has made the first steps such as exploring the market opportunities and describing business opportunities regarding the work of the Video conferencing group. 3
3. Deliverables 3.1 Project Website Because we are belonging in the same CSD team, we share the same project website. 3.2 Project Plan Business subgroup s project plan is excellent, both considering open source network, Network Operation Center (NOC) and HD video conference, and is quite convincing that they are well planned for their purpose. Other parts, for example, Work break down structure (WBS) is very clear, and they have analyzed the competitors. 3.3 Progress Report Well structured, it is pretty clear your position on WBS, but for the earlier weeks, output is not clear enough and obviously, from the start/stop/keep sheet, we can get the idea that they are working individually more than as a team. Things are getting much better after week 10. 3.4 Documents First of all, they have provided a large number of documents, which are quite informative. Most of the documents are targeting HDVC, which means NOC part need to be put more efforts later. Most of the time they are analyzing the market, but they did not clearly provide a specified document about what are they going to implement their business ideas. Some of the documents have vocabulary misuse, obviously, the format and version number system of documents provided by two members is different, which shows the lack of communication. Some of the concepts are overlapping in different documents. Some of the documents seem not finished, only with title in the paragraph but not content, wish they can be finished as soon as possible. 3.5 Presentation Business subgroup presentation is well structured. At first Business subgroup, clearly mentions the three main components of their presentation, which are the three project plans that they aim to deliver. After that, they put emphasis to each plan separately mentioning what they have achieved in that area. However, Business subgroup puts more emphasis in the High Definition Video Conferencing project plan than the other two projects plans. Seven slides are about HDVC project plan and four slides for the two other plans. This fact reveals that Business subgroup has worked hard on gathering information about Video Conferencing. Unfortunately, it also reveals their lack on 4
information on the other two plans and this is something that should it be avoided in a presentation. 4.References [1] HDviaOSN Project Plan, Page 6: http://www.tslab.ssvl.kth.se/csd/projects/0931139/sites/default/files/project%20plan%20v3.3-18.08.2009.pdf 5
