Information & Rules The Tidewater Builders Association announces its call for entries for its 2007 Stanley Awards. The awards recognize distinction in promotional and product achievements by the members of Tidewater Builders Association. This year s Stanley Awards will include: New Home Awards: Marketing and New Construction Remodeling Top Membership Recruiter recognition We cordially invite you to enter this prestigious competition Eligiblity TBA member firms, both builder and associate, may enter. Entries are limited to product located within the boundaries covered by TBA (Chesapeake, Eastern Shore, Franklin, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Southampton County, Suffolk and Virginia Beach as well as the counties of Camden and Currituck in North Carolina). Entries should relate to the housing industry. See specific category eligibility for timing requirements. No entries from previous years can resubmit the same project. (Best Community award entries may be previous winners only if substantial redesign or new architecture and marketing has occurred and if two years have lapsed from the winning date. No exceptions.) Judges will reserve the right to not grant an award if, in their opinion, the submission does not justify just recognition. In this event, there will be no refund of entry fee. Entry must be directly related to the building of, or marketing of, new homes to the consumer, and must have been completed between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2007. Questions? Some rules and entry requirements have changed from previous years. The provided entry form must be filled out completely for each entry. Make copies for multiple entries. Include all required materials (such as folder, entry form, short descriptive paragraph describing entry, photo, etc.). Early bird entry fee (Must be received Before 5 p.m. Fri. March 7, 2008) 1st submission: $175 (includes 2 tickets) 2nd submission: $150 3rd (and subsequent) submission: $125 Entry fee (Entries received after 5 p.m. Fri. March 7, 2008) 1st submission: $200 (includes 2 tickets) 2nd submission: $175 3rd (and subsequent) submission: $150 Current non-members must include membership dues ($635 for builders, $535 for associates) and a new membership application along with their first submission. All completed entry packets MUST be turned in on or before 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2008 at the office at Tidewater Builders Association, 2117 Smith Avenue, Chesapeake, VA 23320. NO LATE OR INCOMPLETE ENTRIES will be accepted. No Exceptions. Submitted entries will not be returned. Judging Each entry will be evaluated on its merits by a panel of distinguished, unbiased judges. Judges are chosen from among the most creative and successful individuals in their fields of expertise - home building, remodeling, merchandising, advertising and promotions. Judges will visit all product/community-based entries. Every attempt will be made to notify entrant at least 48 hours prior to judges visit for on-site review. Schedule is subject to change. Fast & Easy Steps to Enter Early Bird entries due no later than 5 p.m. March 7, 2008 All Materials Due No Later Than March 14, 2008 New entry requirements, all materials provided by entrants. Entries MUST include the following... 1) Approximately 9 X 12 pocket folder to hold all submitted materials provided by entrant. Corporate folders are acceptable. 2) Completed entry application and applicable entry fee for member and non-members (see above fee schedule.) One sheet provided. Make copies for multiple entries. 3) Brief paragraph (no more than 250 words) describing entry and how it meets judging criteria listed in this Call for Entries. 4) For Marketing Distinction Submissions - these categories will be judged at TBA, therefore at least (1) copy of entered ads, brochures, collateral materials, etc. must be submitted electronically in PDF, JPG or Powerpoint. (Submitted items will not be returned.) 5) For New Construction Distinction Submissions - with the exception of categories 11, 12, 18, 21 and Community Hall of Fame, all categories will be judged at TBA. Stanley New Home Awards: Who can enter? Any TBA member firm, builders and associates. Entry must have been completed between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2007. Marketing Distinction 1) Best Logo Design Community (Subdivision/Neighborhood/Master-plan) What is eligible?: Logos submitted must be from project started in 2007. Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on design, color, readability and appropriateness to the selling effort. 2) Print Advertisement of the Year A. Newsprint 1. black and white 2. color B. Magazine Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on concept, copy, graphic design, overall communication and end results. Ads must have been designed and published in 2007. 3) Best Marketing Campaign A: Community (Subdivision/Neighborhood/Master-plan) B: Institutional/Image Building What is eligible?: A series or mixture of media comprising a coordinated campaign over a sustained period of time in 2007. Media can include print advertisements, radio, television, direct mail, billboards, etc. Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on concept, copy, creative strategy, coordination of media used, overall effectiveness and end results. 4) Best Special Promotion What is eligible?: A mixture of elements comprising a themed promotion, executed over a short period of time in 2007 to generate specific traffic or awareness of a community or firm related to the building industry. Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on communication of specific message, graphic design and content, cost effectiveness and end results. 5) Best electronic media Advertisement A: Radio B: Television C: Video D: Website Design What is eligible?: Entries can include radio & television spots, in-model videos, corporate image videos, and websites produced in 2007. Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on content, meeting communication objectives, production techniques, budget, and end results. 6) Best Marketing Brochure A: Community (Subdivision/Neighborhood/Master-plan) 1: Under 100 units 2: 100 units and over What is eligible?: Entries must have been designed and printed in 2007. Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on design, color selections, stock, usability and appropriateness to the selling effort. 3 7) Best Signage A: Under 100 units B:100 units and over What is eligible?: Signage, both permanent and temporary (directional, model. information, etc.) must have been installed in 2007. Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on design, color, medium/products used, environment, readability and effectiveness to selling effort. New Construction 8) Best Sales Office A: 750 Sq. Ft. & Under B: Over 750 Sq. Ft. What is eligible?: Sales offices entered must have been installed in 2007. If unit has been sold, photos may be submitted with entry. Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on use of space, color, presentation of selling graphics, ease of use, and appropriateness to selling effort. 9) Best Model Interior Merchandising Selling prices listed below are as shown in specific model home entered (not base prices). Product can be attached or detached. A: Under $300,000 B: $300,000- $500,000 C: Over $500,000 What is eligible?: This category intended for new and/or used merchandising products. Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on use of space, color, texture, furniture, accessories, window and wall treatments, merchandising appeal to intended market/buyer profile and appropriateness to entered home s price. 10) Best Model Landscaping All selling prices listed below are averages for the new community in which the landscaping entered is being presented. Product can be attached or detached. A: Under $300,000 B: $300,000- $500,000 C: Over $500,000 Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on color, coordination, product, beauty, use of available space, and appropriateness to intended market/ buyer profile.e 11) Best Home Design -Attached A: Under 2,500 sq. ft. B: 2,501 to 3,500 sq. ft. C: Over 3,500 sq. ft Who can enter?: This category intended for builders and/or builder architects only. Judging criteria:: Entries will be judged on overall architectural design, workmanship, attention to detail, functionality and how it relates to intended market/buyer profile.

Stanley New Home Awards: New Construction Distinction 12) Best Home Design -Detached A: Under 2,500 sq. ft. B: 2,501 to 3,500 sq. ft. C: 3,501 to 5,000 sq. ft. D. Over 5,000 sq. ft. Who can enter?: This category intended for builders and/or builder architects only. Judging criteria:: Entries will be judged on overall architectural design, 13) Best Master Bath A: Under 2,500 sq. ft. B: 2,501 to 3,500 sq. ft. C: 3,501 to 5,000 sq. ft. D. Over 5,000 sq. ft. Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on overall architectural design, special features design, workmanship, attention to detail, functionality and how it relates to intended market/buyer profile. 14) Best Kitchen A: Under 2,500 sq. ft. B: 2,501 to 3,500 sq. ft. C: 3,501 to 5,000 sq. ft. D. Over 5,000 sq. ft. Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on overall architectural design, special features design, workmanship, attention to detail, functionality and how it relates to intended market/buyer profile. 15) Best Media room Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on overall architectural design, special features design, workmanship, attention to detail, functionality and how it relates to intended market/buyer profile. 16) Best Outdoor Living A: $500,000 and under B: Over $500,000 Judging criteria:: Entries will be judged on overall architectural design, special features design, workmanship, attention to detail, functionality and how it relates to intended market/buyer profile. 17) Best special feature Substantial and unique design feature in new or existing residence. Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on overall architectural design, special features design, workmanship, attention to detail, functionality and how it relates to intended market/buyer profile. 18) Conservation & preservation A: Individual Homesite B: Community Who can enter?: This category intended for developers, builders/ developers or designing engineers. Developer is defined as entity responsible for installing infrastructure of community. Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on the community design s preservation and enhancement of existing environmental features. Special design features that achieve low-impact development, preserve existing significant environmental features and enhance the existing landscape will be considered. 4 19) Best green building Who can enter?: This category is intended for builders or builder/developers. Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on the submission of a narrative and any supporting literature and/or photographs that describe the products and processes used to build "green". Products and processes should be described that will positively impact the health and safety, durability, energy affordability and comfort of the home's occupants. Recognized "green" certifications like Earthcraft should be noted. The use of sustainable and green products, low impact environmental processes (landscaping, etc.) and diagnostic testing to measure compliance with established standards should be outlined. 20) most valuable builder Agent Who can enter?: Builder or builder/developers Judging criteria: This category does not require an entry fee. This award is for the site agent or listing agent representing a builder's new construction community or individual home. The nomination must be by the builder who is represented by that agent. Submission must be by written narrative of about 250 words. Applicant should outline why this site agent/listing agent is worthy of such recognition due to sales, prospecting activities conducted, value to the builder's organization, etc. There is no firm criteria as the value of an agent to a builder and his/her organization will vary from builder to builder. 21) Best Community A: Under 100 homesites B: 100 to 250 homesites C: Over 250 homesites Who can enter?: This category intended for developers or builder/developers only. Developer is defined as entity responsible for installing infrastructure of community.no duplicate entries from previous years. (Best Community award entries may be previous winners only if substantial redesign or new architecture and marketing has occurred. No exceptions.) Judges will reserve the right to not grant an award if, in their opinion, the submission does not justify just recognition. In this event, there will be no refund of entry fee. Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on overall community design, amenities, entry design, common areas, signage and how it relates to market/buyer profile. After reviewing and judging all entries for Best Community, judges will select a community to be designated as Community of the Year. No separate entry is required. New award- Community hall of fame New! New! This year's Stanley Awards usher in a new category, the Hall of Fame Community category. This category does not require an entry fee, but does require an entry application and narrative. Photos and any other materials may be submitted at the discretion of the applicant. The selection of a winner is at the sole discretion of the judges. Judging will be done on-site. Entrants in this category must have been a previous TBA Best Community winner. Criteria will mimic that used by various national organizations. Applicants should provide the community's address and website, provide a description in approximately 250 words that outlines elements like past awards won (TBA; ULI; CAS), size density, site characteristic, amenities and sales of the community and distinguishing reasons why the project should receive such an award. It should also be noted if the project was economically successful. Once a community has received a Hall of Fame Award, it is retired from competition in the TBA Best Community category.

The Stanley Remodeling Awards The Stanley Remodeling Awards competition will recognize remodeling and renovation projects located within the boundaries covered by TBA (Chesapeake, Franklin, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Southampton County, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Camden, NC, Currituck and the Eastern Shore of Virginia). Its purpose is to recognize excellence in design and construction of remodeled and renovated residential and commercial buildings and to promote consumer and remodeler knowledge of quality and professionalism in the remodeling industry. Members of the Tidewater Builders Association Remodelers Council may submit entries. Members of TBA who are not members of the Remodelers Council may enter by paying the nonmember entry fee which includes membership dues in the Remodelers Council. HOW TO ENTER Complete the entry form attached. Mail or bring the completed form and the entry fee to the TBA Remodelers Council, 2117 Smith Avenue, Chesapeake, VA 23320. Each entry requires at least six (6) before and after photos of the project, the contract, and floor plans. Entries should be presented in a three ring binder or pocket folder (binders are recommended for ease of viewing by judges). Materials for entering are the responsibility of the member. Binders/folders must include: project information sheet, specifications, before and after photos, description of job, release letter from homeowner (REQUIRED). All entries will remain the property of TBA s Remodelers Council for one (1) full year after deadline to allow for proper publicity of award winners. Tidewater Builders Association Remodelers Council Membership Application The Tidewater Builders Association Remodelers Council is open to any person involved in the remodeling business whose company is a member in good standing of Tidewater Builders Association.
