Special Issue/2015 Monash Update Special Issue: 2016 Course Portfolio Welcome Over the past year we have reviewed our course portfolio. Our commitment at Monash is to provide students with choice and empowering them to choose a course that suits their personal interests and needs. We continue to offer courses across a broad range of study areas and provide students with the option to specialise early in their courses. The 2016 Monash University Course Guide is now available. From 2016 our undergraduate course portfolio offers two distinct types of courses. You can also study two courses at the same time by studying one of over 140 double degree combinations. Comprehensive courses These courses offer a broad range of options across a broad study area including arts, business, commerce, information technology and science. Students can choose comprehensive courses already knowing what their major study area will be. But if they are still deciding, these courses provide the opportunity to try a range of subjects in year one before choosing a major. Double degree courses Specialist courses These courses enable students to concentrate in a particular area of study from day one such as engineering or biomedical science. They are designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed for practice in a specialist field, many of which require professional accreditation requirements to be met. We continue to offer one of Australia s most extensive range of double degrees. These courses allow students to study towards two degrees at the same time. A double degree course takes two years less to complete than if the degrees were completed separately, because requirements for one degree count as electives towards the other degree. If the Masters of Dietetics is accredited by the DAA by the end of 2017, Scholars who complete the Bachelor of Nutrition Science with Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics an average grade of credit or above are guaranteed entry into the Master of Dietetics in 2019 (supported by CSP or equivalent) with unit credits that mean the Masters may be completed in 1.5 years full time. Graduates of this combined 4.5-year program will be awarded a Bachelor of Nutrition Science (Scholars Program) and the DAA accredited Master of Dietetics. n If the Master of Dietetics is not accredited by the DAA by the end of 2017, Scholars will be transferred to the third year of Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics, a four-year DAA accredited course, at the end of 2017.
