Format Utility Introduction Type of Format Quick: Full: Configure device only: Erase and check blocks at the same time. If there are any Bad blocks, mark them as Bad and perform a DOS format. Do a Surface Scan for a Read/Write check. A Read/Write check will find if there are any Bad blocks, mark them as Bad and perform a DOS format. Partition USB Flash Drive or setup password protection. This will also erase all data on USB Flash Drive. WARNING: All data on USB Flash Drive will be lost during execution of any of the above procedures.
Security Function The Security Function supports Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 7 & Windows 8. The Security Function is not supported on Mac or Linux Operating Systems. Create Single Partition with Password 1. You must run the istar program on the USB Flash Drive to enable this feature. This procedure will erase all data on the USB Flash Drive. To avoid loss of data, please backup all files on the USB Flash Drive before proceeding with this procedure. 2. Insert USB Flash Drive and run the istar program. 3. Click Format button. 4. Make sure the Disk Partition Bar is all the way to the bottom and Disk 2 is 0MB. 5. Select the Type of format - Quick, Full or Configure device only (Quick is the default setting and should be applicable in most cases) 6. Check the Enable password protection box for Disk 1.
7. The Set default password window will appear. 8. Enter your password, confirm your password. 9. Enter a Password hint (optional). 10. Click OK. 11. You will return to the main Format window. Click Start to continue. 12. You will receive the following warning. Click Yes to continue or No to exit. 13. The USB Flash Drive will now be configured and the following window will appear. 14. After clicking OK, the security function will be enabled.
Create Two Partitions (One with Password) 1. You must run the istar program on the USB Flash Drive to enable this feature. This procedure will reformat the USB Flash Drive and erase all data on the drive. To avoid loss of data, please backup all files on the USB Flash Drive before proceeding with this procedure. 2. Insert USB Flash Drive and run the istar program. 3. Click Format button. 4. Select the Type of format - Quick, Full or Configure device only (Quick is the default setting and should be applicable in most cases) 5. Slide the Disk Partition Bar to set the size of Disk 1. As you move the bar, the size of Disk 2 will automatically change according to the size of Disk 1. 6. Click on Enable password protection on Disk 2. 7. The Set default password window will appear. 8. Enter your password, confirm your password
9. Enter a Password hint (optional). 10. Click OK. 11. You will return to the main Format window. Click Start to continue. 12. You will receive the following warning. Click Yes to continue or No to exit. 13. The USB Flash Drive will now be configured and the following window will appear. 14. After the completion of the format, you need to un-plug and re-plug the USB Flash Drive to enable these settings. 15. When you run the istar program, the following box will appear. 16. Select the appropriate drive letter to login to the secure partition.
Using Security Function 1. Select the Login button to display the Login window. 2. Enter the password and you will have access to the secure area. Change the Password 1. Insert USB Flash Drive and run the istar program. Click Login button. The Login window appears. 2. Click Change >> to continue.
3. Enter existing password 4. Enter New password, Re-Enter new password If you have Forgotten the Password If you forget your password, you can use the password hint to try and remember it. If you cannot recall the password using the password hint, then the only remaining option is to run the Format Utility program to reformat the USB Flash Drive and set up a new password. If you had previously created a partition on the istar you will have a chance to make a backup copy of the data stored on the public disk before re-formatting. WARNING: All data on USB Flash Drive will be lost during execution of this procedure. PC Lock Function Once the PC-Lock function is enabled, you can use your USB Flash Drive as a key to lock your computer, protecting it from being used by unauthorised persons. The PC-Lock function is not supported on Mac or Linux Operating Systems. To use the PC-Lock function, you must login into the Windows OS with Administrator rights. Using PC Lock 1. Plug your USB Flash Drive into a USB port on your computer and run istar program. 2. The istar window appears. Select the PC-Lock button.
3. The PC-Lock Setting window will appear. Select the Lock Period. 4. Select Lock Screen Mode (Text mode or Picture mode) to protect your computer from use by unauthorised persons.
5. Click on the Enable button to enable the PC-Lock function.
