Conference on Fire Safety and Security (ConFiSS)-2014 Bu ildi g n Co de FIRE Alarm March 4-5, 2014 FICCI, Federation House New Delhi

Conference on Fire Safety and Security (ConFiSS)-2014 March 4-5, 2014 FICCI, Federation House New Delhi Fire is a serious hazard in India and on an average about 25,000 people die every year due to fire and related causes. The Indian fire safety and security market continues to evolve from a simple integration of incongruent systems such as fire safety, security, and other utilities, to fully integrated and intelligent systems that incorporate the latest technologies. According to the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA), the fire losses accounted for more than 50% of the claims made to general insurance companies in fiscal 2011-12. There is a definite need for creating awareness and also ensuring strict compliance of fire safety rules. Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) in association with Fire and Security Association of India (FSAI) - Delhi Chapter is organising a two-day Conference on Fire Safety and Security (ConFiSS) - 2014 on March 4-5, 2014 at FICCI, New Delhi. The conference will bring together authorities from government and experts from industry to debate and discuss some industry issues like, lack of implementation of existing regulations, new technologies, issues of capacity building and industry standards. Conference Highlights Fire & Life Safety Awareness National Building Code Fire Safety Standards, Audit & Rating Fire Safety & Security for Hospitals, Hospitality & Housing Innovative Technologies for Fire Safety and Security Capacity Building Networking Opportunity & Exhibition

Time Session 0900 1000 hrs Registration 1000 1100 hrs Inaugural session 1100 1145 hrs Keynote Addresses 1145 1200 hrs Tea /Coffee break Draft Agenda 1200 1330 hrs Session I: Panel Discussion on National Building Code of India: Impediment to Growth or Safety Accelerator 1330 1430 hrs Lunch The National Building Code (NBC) of India is one of the most referred document in the real estate sector. Its provisions have been incorporated in the Fire Act, various bye laws and numerous rules of states / UTs. Though some of the provisions of the Code pose a challenge in planning, it is also noted that the code in general is most concise yet comprehensive. The code is under revision by an expert panel, which has kindled the debate whether NBC is an 'impediment to growth' or a 'safety accelerator'. The session aims to discuss and debate these two opposing viewpoints to suggest relevant amendments in the Code. 1430 1600 hrs Session II: Tech. Bytes Today, we have a number of dependable and state of the art technologies to aid life and fire safety in complexes and buildings. However, to chose one over the other becomes a mammoth task. It is prudent to review, ascertain and select these technologies based their merit and its suitability for our requirements. The session will brings out a fast track update on these modern systems and technologies, so that these could be juxtaposed and compared systematically. The technologies under consideration are: Beam detectors Perimeter security Fire curtains Thermal imaging cameras Pressure control landing valves Sprinkler flexible connectors Mass notification system Emergency exit lighting 1600 1630 hrs Tea /Coffee break 1630 1800 hrs Session III: Capacity Building for the Fire Security Industry The India fire safety equipment market is estimated to touch USD 4.26 billion by the end of 2017. With rapid industrialization and escalating governmental regulations, the fire safety and security market in India is poised to grow many folds. Enormous demand has widened the scope for Indian fire industry to offer innovative products and services, with wide adoption of emerging trends and technologies world-wide. The session strives to discuss the need for capacity building within the industry and to find out feasible solutions to bridge the gap between demand for skills and availability of skill development programmes. 1800 hrs onwards Networking Cocktails DAY 1 (Tuesday; March 4, 2014)

Time Session Draft Agenda 1000 1130 hrs Session IV: Fire Safety for Protection of the 3H (Hospitality, Healthcare, Housing) 1130 1145 hrs Tea / Coffee break Hospitality, healthcare and housing are vulnerable occupancies considering the sleeping accommodation facilities they provide. However, all there pose different types of fire safety risks as type and condition of the occupants vary considerably. Hospitality occupants are people in transit and therefore much unaware of the egress routes. With higher fire load and completely unacquainted occupants, the requirement of planning and upkeep of the fire and life safety systems pose a significant challenge. Healthcare occupants pose more challenges considering the immobility challenges of the inmates. Housing inmates create mixed challenges of having people of all ages and background. In addition, the unawares factor towards fire and life safety is a major impendent in having these occupants to face unpleasant consequences in case of outbreak of fire. This session will bring experts to talk about the concerns, issues and approaches to resolve these varied situations. 1145 1330 hrs Session V: Fire Safety Star Rating 1330 1430hrs Closing and Lunch Day 2: (Wednesday; March 5, 2014) While choosing a property to buy or while simply checking into a hotel, do we consider price, location, facilities, catering, car parking and FIRE SAFETY? Do people still lack the basic awareness when it comes to fire safety? Can the Fire Safety Star Rating be one of strategies for effectively policy for promotion of fire safety standards in our country? The session aims to delve into these and many more issues regarding fire safety in the country.
