Introduction This configuration guide includes setup information for 3COM PBX model NBX vs 6.0.31 and Multi-Tech FaxFinder model FF110 vs 1.04C. This guide will step you through the PBX and FaxFinder settings which will allow incoming fax DID numbers to be sent to the FaxFinder DID port. How it Works The PBX has an incoming PRI line from the Telco with fax DID numbers assigned. The PRI line is connected to the T1/PRI Module (3C10116) in the NBX. When the PBX received an incoming fax call, it detects the DID number as a fax, and routes the call to a CO/Line port (FXO 3C10114). Connected to the CO/Line port is the DID port on the FaxFinder. The PBX seizes the FaxFinder DID port and sends the DID digits to the FaxFinder as DTMF digits. The FaxFinder goes off hook, receives the fax, and then emails the fax to an email address which is provisioned in the FaxFinder phone book. The LINE port on the FaxFinder is connected to an Analog Station port (FXS 3C10117C) on the PBX for sending faxes. Installation Overview We will be installing a FaxFinder model FF110 to 3COM PBX model NBX. The FF110 DID interface will be connected to an analog CO/Line port on the PBX and the LINE interface connected to an analog station port. Incoming fax PRI numbers will be routed to the FF110 DID port as DTMF digits. Based on the digits received, the FF110 will forward the fax as a tiff attachment to the email recipient setup for those digits. This requires the FF110 to be authenticated to an SMTP email server. PC s that have the Fax Finder client installed, will print a document to the FaxFinder print driver. Then the file is converted to tiff. The client opens the FaxFinder Send Fax screen and enters recipient information. The fax is queued to the FaxFinder, which sends the call to the NBX station port with digits to dial. This Configuration Guide covers the configuration of the PBX and FaxFinder server, for FaxFinder Client details, please refer to the FaxFinder User Guide on the Multi-Tech web site or the accompaning product CD. Configuration Details In this example, the last 4 digits in the DID numbers all start with 559, so 559x would be the pattern for the FaxFinder phone book. If your DID range from the Telco is different or you have several patterns, you can build multiple incoming DID ranges in the dial plan. PBX configuration 1. Connect to the NBX by entering the IP address of the PBX into your browser, then click on Administrator. 2. Login as administrator. 4
3. To setup the analog line port for FaxFinder parameters, click on PSTN Gateway Configuration, Analog Line Cards. 4. Click on 7253 or your Line Card extension plugged into the FF110 DID port. 5
5. Change name to FF110 FaxFinder, or name of your choice, then click apply. 6. Click on Advanced Setting Tab and confirm that Dial tone detection for CO line access is checked, then click on Apply. 6
7. Next we will create the route with extension list for the FF110 FaxFinder line port. Click on Dial Plan, Extension list. 8. Click on Add with in Extension List menu. 7
9. Add Extension list *0009 or next available number in your plan and enter name, then click Apply at bottom of menu. 10. Click Dial Plan, Extension List, then click on *0009 or your entry. 8
11. Add line port extension 7253 by placing a check mark to the left of it, or your line port extension to the *0009 extension list or your extension list, and click Apply. 12. The extension will show as active in the extension list, click Apply. 9
Next we will setup the dial plan to route any DID number starting with 559x to *0009, which routes analog line port 7253, and hands the digits with the fax to the FF110 FaxFinder. 13. Click on Dial Plan, Configure. 14. Click on Modify. 10
15. Set the Dial Plan 4 digit DID and Auto Attendent table so digits that start with 559 route to route 9. Refer to entry 8 below. FaxFinder configuration 1. Set your PC Ethernet port to 192.168.2.2, open a web browser at 192.168.2.1, and login to the FaxFinder. User name = admin Password = admin 12
2. Administration a) Click on Administration, enter IP Address, Subnet Mask, default Gateway, Name Server and Secondary Server and click on Update. Note: The FaxFinder will reboot in 5 seconds and you may change your PC Ethernet. Re-login with the new IP address. b) Enter SMTP server Address, Domain name, User ID and Password if required by mail server and click update. 13
3. Click on Modem Configuration DID Modem1 Max DID Digits to 4 DID start to Wink Click update. POTS Modem 2 Dial Prefix for 9 (access code to dial outside line) Click update. 4. Click on Phone Book, add the fax DID digits which will be emailed to each recipient, click update for each entry. 14
5. Click on Current Status: there should be no errors for email status and time server status. 6. Connect FaxFinder to 3com CO/Line port and extension port. a) Connect the RJ-12 end of the phone line provided to the DID port on the FF110. b) Connect the RJ-11 end of the phone line provided to the CO/Line port configured on the 3COM NBX. c) Connect a phone line from the FF110 LINE port to the 3COM NBX analog extension port. Please refer to FaxFinder user guide for advanced feature descriptions. 15
Verification Tests Check Current Status web page on FaxFinder and confirm no errors for Mail Status and Time Server Status. Send a fax to one of the DID numbers and verify that the PBX routes the call to the CO port which connects to the FaxFinder, monitor the Front Panel on the FaxFinder under DID FAX, TD light should be on. You may also monitor the FaxFinder DID Fax port with a web browser, under Current Status. The Phone number field shows the DID digits that are detected. Check the FaxFinder log for received fax details. Check the email recipient s inbox and confirm the fax was received. Send a fax from the client PC and verify it routed correctly and was received. 16
Testing Observations When the FaxFinder is authenticated to an SMTP and Time server and the PBX routing is setup, the phonebook routes incoming DTMF digits to email addresses, and all faxes are routed to the correct recipients. Outgoing faxes work when the PBX routing digits are setup for faxing outside the PBX to local Telco fax numbers. Internal faxing to direct extensions do not require PBX routing prefix to an outside line. Consult with Email Administrator if there are SMTP errors. Confirm that the mail server supports SMTP. Confirm if User Name and Password are required on the SMTP server. Consult with Network Administrator if there are NTP errors. Confirm your DNS settings on the FaxFinder and try alternate NTP servers. 17
