ADMISSIONS CRITERIA Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) ABOUT THE PROGRAM Completed online application. A baccalaureate degree in nursing from an NLN or CCNE/AACN accredited school. Completion of undergraduate courses in Health Assessment, Nursing Research, and Statistics. Proof of licensure to practice as a professional nurse in New Jersey. Grade point average of 3.2 (on a scale of 4.0) with a B average in all nursing courses. Three letters of recommendations (academic and professional) on required forms. Proof of professional liability insurance. Completion of an ethical dilemma case study short essay (subject to be specified by the Nursing Program). Current copy of CPR certification. The Master of Science in Nursing Program is designed for the baccalaureate-prepared registered nurse (R.N.) who wishes to pursue a graduate degree with specialty certification as an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP). The program focuses on the acquisition of knowledge and skills that enable the nurse practitioner to assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate health problems of the client. Health promotion and disease prevention are also emphasized. The program encourages self-directed learning and critical thinking. It ensures the graduate student will develop the skills necessary to function as an advanced-practice nurse. purposes: Advance the educational level of nurses to effect improvement in the health care of clients. Encourage continued personal and professional growth. Prepare advanced-practice nurses to successfully pass national certification exam. Provide a foundation for continued graduate study ADMISSIONS DEADLINE: Spring: December 1 / Fall: May 1 The sooner you submit your application the better. Transfer Credit: The College may accept up to 9 credits that sufficiently match corresponding Stockton courses, provided that the grade earned is a 3.0 (B) or better. Transfer credit requests should be submitted at the time of application. Any other transfer requests should be submitted to the student s advisor for prior approval, but in all cases no later than the first semester following admission to the program. A Graduate Transfer Equivalency Form must be submitted at the time of application when requesting transfer credits.

The MSN program with the clinical concentration: Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) consists of 42 credits. Students have the option of completing the program in four semesters of study (two year sequence) or in a three (3) year or four (4) year course sequence. All students must complete the program within five years of beginning the program. Students may transfer a maximum of nine (9) appropriate graduate nursing credits from an accredited college or university (clinical courses are not transferable). Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Post-Master s Certification requires additional didactic coursework and a minimum of 200 clinical hours. Are there options available for nurses who already possess a master s degree (MSN)? Yes, there are three options available: Option 1 Provides practicing nurses with a master s degree an option to complete coursework to become eligible to take the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) national certification examination. Option 2 Provides nationally certified and practicing Adult Nurse Practitioners (ANP) or Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners (AGPCNP) an option to complete additional didactic and clinical coursework to become eligible to take the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) national certification examination. Applicants must provide proof of valid NJ APN-C credentials. Students are admitted in both Fall and Spring semesters. *NOTE: Only MSN students admitted in the Fall semester will be eligible for full-time status. When is the deadline for applications? Application files must be completed by May 1 (sooner is better) to be considered for Fall matriculation and December 1 for Spring matriculation. Can I take courses in the MSN Program prior to being admitted into the program? No, we currently do not accept non-matriculated students to the graduate program. Can the program be completed as a part-time student? Yes, students have the option of attending on a part-time basis; however, students must complete the program in five years.
