1 MSN Master of Science in Nursing The Degree You Need To Achieve TM
2 MSN PROGRAM... The Master of Science in Nursing program is designed for the baccalaureate-prepared registered nurse (R.N.) who wishes to pursue a graduate degree with specialty certification as an adult nurse practitioner. The program focuses on the acquisition of knowledge and skills that enable the adult nurse practitioner to assess, diagnose and treat health problems of the adult client. Health promotion and disease prevention are also emphasized. The program encourages self-directed learning and critical thinking. It ensures the graduate student will develop the skills necessary to function as an advanced-practice nurse. Purposes: Prepare advanced-practice nurses qualified to sit for national certification. Advance the educational level of nurses to effect improvement in the health care of adults. Encourage continued personal and professional growth. Provide a foundation for continued graduate study.

5 SUCCESS STORIES... Graduates of the MSN Program at Stockton are working in primary practice, nursing education, research, and health care administration. Living in South Jersey, we are very fortunate to have Richard Stockton College right in our backyard. I chose Stockton to continue my education because of its close proximity to home, but I got so much more. Being a working mom with a family and a full time job, Stockton offered me the flexibility of scheduling classes in the evening. The instructors are the best; class size is small, which offers individualized attention. You can t get that at a big university. Also, Stockton is a great value. I was able to receive my degree at a fraction of the cost that I would have paid at a larger institution. When people ask me where I received my education, I proudly tell them about Stockton. I can t say enough about the MSN Program at Stockton. The program utilizes classroom, distance learning and precepting; these combine to provide a thorough educational experience. Steven Marx Class of 2005 Jill Materazzi MSN, RN, APN,KSP, C. Class of 2001 I can t say enough about the MSN Program at Stockton. The program utilizes classroom, distance learning and precepting; these combine to provide a thorough educational experience. The faculty are some of the most dedicated, and intelligent people I ve met. They are an outstanding group whose focus is to ensure that I am well prepared for my future career. Janell Roseberry MSN, RN, APN,C. Class of 2005 The Master of Science in Nursing Program offers outstanding educational opportunities for RNs wishing to advance their career in nursing. Students are exposed to cutting-edge healthcare information in the classroom and clinical area. The clinical practicum is structured to meet the individual needs of the student. Small class sizes and a rigorous academic environment ensure that graduates are well prepared to function in an advanced practice role.
6 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS... Do I have to take GREs? No, GREs are not currently required for admission to the MSN Program. Do I have to attend full time? No, students may complete the program at their own pace. Students may not enroll for clinical courses until they are matriculated. What advanced certification is offered? The MSN program at Stockton prepares RNs to function as Adult Nurse Practitioners. The post-master s track is available for nurses wishing to complete requirements to become certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Can I transfer credits from other schools? The MSN Program will accept up to 9 credits from an accredited school. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA in all transfer courses. If I have an MSN in another area do I have to complete 42 credits to become an Adult Nurse Practitioner? A fast track option is available for nurses with a Master s degree in another field. Students are evaluated individually to determine the number of credits needed to complete the Practitioner Program. How many clinical hours are required? National accrediting agencies require a minimum of 500 clinical hours for certification eligibility. An additional 200 clinical hours in pediatrics is required for the Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate option. How are clinical hours scheduled? The scheduling of clinical hours is flexible. Clinical times are negotiated with the preceptor by the student and faculty.
